Pyomindaehwa is a study book written in Korean and it takes a form of an investigation document made up of a conversation between Chosen's castaways and an interpreter taking place in Naesirogawa and Satsuma on the south end of Kyushu, Japan in the 19th century. This book is in three volumes. Many terminologies such as timber parts, sail, rigging and equipment have been shown in the last volume, which is mainly about a repairing process of drifting ship. Especially, timber parts' terminologies including hull's term were schematized in Kumamoto Text(1854b). This study have attempted to find out Naval architectural clues helping estimate actual drifting ship's type and bulk on the evidence of the contents. Based on the studies, it is possible to presume the type of Korean boats and ships, which are similar with the ones from database of 21 traditional fishing boats in the report on Investigation of Korean fishing boats studied previously. This paper has shown the logical process of presumption of types of boats.
This study investigates the structural integrity of the amphibious tour bus under the rollover condition. The multi-purpose bus called Dual Mode Tour Bus (DMTB) which explores on land and water has been designed on top of a truck platform. Prior to the fabrication of new upper body and sailing equipment of DMTB, computational analysis investigates the rollover protection of the proposed structure including superstructure, wheels, and axles. The Computer-Aided Design (CAD) of the whole vehicle model is meshed and preprocessed under high performance using the Altair HyperMesh to attain the best mesh model suited for finite element analysis (FEA) on the proposed system. Meanwhile, the numerical model is analyzed by employing LS-DYNA to evaluate the superstructure strength. The numerical model includes detail information about the microstructure and considers wheels and axles as rigid bodies but excludes window glasses, seats, and interior parts. Based on the simulation analysis and proper modifications especially on the rear portion of the bus, the local stiffness significantly increased. The vehicle is rotated to the contact point on the ground based on the mathematical method presented in this study to save computational cost. The results show that the proposed method of rollover analysis is highly significant not only in bus rollover tests but in crashworthiness studies for other application. The critical impartments in our suggested dual-purpose bus accepted and passed "Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) R66".
Detecting objects is important for the safe operation of ships, and enables collision avoidance, risk detection, and autonomous sailing. This study proposes a ship detection method from images and videos taken at sea using one of the state-of-the-art deep neural network-based object detection algorithms. A deep learning model is trained using a public maritime dataset, and results show it can detect all types of floating objects and classify them into ten specific classes that include a ship, speedboat, and buoy. The proposed deep learning model is compared to a universal trained model that detects and classifies objects into general classes, such as a person, dog, car, and boat, and results show that the proposed model outperforms the other in the detection of maritime objects. Different deep neural network structures are then compared to obtain the best detection performance. The proposed model also shows a real-time detection speed of approximately 30 frames per second. Hence, it is expected that the proposed model can be used to detect maritime objects and reduce risks while at sea.

This study suggests surface wave communication, which uses a metal surface as a medium, to provide wireless communication in the extreme environment due to surrounding metal materials on vessels. The test was conducted on a G/T 265 tons tug boat, and to confirm the possibility of surface wave communication between a bridge and each designated space in the boat. As a result, the transmission speed was 13Mbps in average. For the test case between the bridge and the engine room, transmission speed was 4.3Mbps while the engine was on, and 1.2Mbps during sailing. It was able to be overcome by partially changing the equipment installation location. Surface wave communication in a bow storage, a fully enclosed space, had 8Mbps better transmission speed than wireless communication; this confirmed the superiority of surface wave communication in confined spaces on a vessel. Additional surface wave generators were designed and applied to resolve the paint issue. It is expected to apply surface wave communication to implement the new wireless solution on vessels.
T.S. HANBADA has a relatively large hull and superstructures above the water line, so she has much of leeway or turning of bow with the effect of winds. Especially on berthing, unberthing and/or sailing on low speed, these effects take place more significant. Therefore, it was carried out the numerical calculation of the wind force and moments acting on the T.S. HANBADA, and then calculated the leeway angle and counter rudder angle with the relative wind direction and velocity. Also, it was suggested the maximum wind velocity which could be berthed or unberthed used by bow thruster and the tugboat operations in strong winds. These results will be great helpful to the vessels with large superstructures on ship's handling in harbour or tugboat operations.

Analysis target ship is not introduced yet in domestic as steel yacht that is getting into the spotlight by leisure life in Australia or Japan. Sailing yacht or Yacht for leisure time made of FRP into controlling power fare mainly and the design and made of latest fishing boat and something of domestic is consisting mainly. To need investigated for concept is various kinds overall strength as that use mainly steel wire material structurally of steel yacht by small crafts about Longi strength, Transe strength portion even of design safety factor at subject to do Rule's allowable stress enough stable structure accomplish. But it is assessment of part intensity that become refer to most in small size ship.
The many vessels are built with FRP(Fiber-Reinforced Plastic) material for small boats and medium vessels. However, FRP is impossible to be used for recyclable material owing to environmental problems and causes large proportion of collision accidents because radar reflection wave is so weak that large vessels could not detect FRP ships during the sailing. Hence, Al alloy comes into the spotlight to solve these kinds of problems as a new-material for next generation instead of FRP. Al alloy ships are getting widely introduced for fish and leisure boats to save fuel consumption due to lightweight. In this study, it was selected 6061-T6 Al alloy which are mainly used for Al-ships and carried out various electrochemical experiment such as potential, anodic/cathodic polarization, Tafel analysis, potentiostatic experiment and surface morphologies observation after potentiostatic experiment for 1200 sec by using the SEM equipment to evaluate optimum corrosion protection potential in sea water. It is concluded that the optimum corrosion protection potential range is -1.4 V ~ -0.7 V(Ag/AgCl) for 6061-T6 Al alloy, in the case of application of ICCP(Impressed current cathodic protection), which was shown the lowest current density at the electrochemical experiment and good specimen surface morphologies after potentiostatic experiment for Al-Mg-Si(6061-T6) Al alloy in seawater environment.

A performance index is very important and indispensable to the evaluation of automatic steering system of ships in open sea from the viewpoint of energy saving. In this paper, we derive the performance index of automatic steering system from the concept of energy loss of propulsive power. The index is found to consist of three terms, energy loss due to elongation of sailing distance, energy loss due to steering, and energy loss due to yawing motion. We also provide two kinds of calculation method on the performance index ; frequency response analysis and digital simulation. The numerical calculations are carried out for an ore carrier and a fishing boat by both methods. The frequency response analysis is found to be useful if the system is linear and the disturbance on ship is not large. If the system is nonlinear or the disturbance is excessive, the method of digital simulation has to be applied for the accurate evaluation of the performance index. Further investigations into the effects of nonlinear elements such as weather adjuster, power unit etc. on the performance index, will be dealt with in another paper.

This study investigates the physiological and psychological effects of a nature-based outdoor activity program in an environment reflecting the characteristics of forest and coastal areas on 30 firefighters (average age: 40.4 ± 9.8 years) who are frequently exposed to dangerous situations. Blood pressure, pulse pressure, and heart rate variability were used as physiological measurement indicators, and the Korean versions of PANAS (positive affect and negative affect schedule), WEMWBS (Warwick-Edinburgh mental well-being scale), and PRS (perceived restorativeness scale) were used as psychological measurement indicators. For four days and three nights, the participants experienced programs at Hallyeohaesang Nature Center and the surrounding mountains, seas, and islands, utilizing forest resources such as trekking on forest trails, walking barefoot, taking aromatic footbaths, meditating in forest oxygen domes, and lying on relaxation chairs, and programs utilizing marine resources such as taking a boat to an island, walking on forest trails with seascape views, and sailing on a yacht. Participants' systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure decreased, and participants' positive emotions increased and negative emotions decreased after the program. There was a statistically significant increase in mental well-being and perceived restorative environment. Through this study, it was found that nature-based outdoor activity programs based on forest and marine resources are effective in physiological and psychological stability of firefighters. It is hoped that the results of this study will be applied to other high-risk workers for PTSD, who have high stress levels, by combining forest healing and marine healing, and expanding the scope and diversity of programs in more diverse environments and conditions.
