  • The presence of older installations, in particular nuclear facilities, demands extra studies concerning the safety evaluation of those installations. One of the aspects to deal with is the safety of the several transmission lines in a nuclear installation, for instance the safety of control, safety against fire, etc.. . This paper investigates the use of fuzzy set theory in the inspection of transmission lines of nuclear installations at SCK/CEN, Belgium.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate risk factors and ergonomically improve the manufacturing lines of compressors for prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, enhancement of productivity, and workers satisfaction We executed questionnaire survey, ergonomic risk factors investigation of manufacturing lines and ergonomic intervention of work methods, workplace and hand tools. The results of the questionnaire showed that $7.9\%$ of respondents were positive in WMSDs symptom survey. In ergonomic evaluation, the analysis methods such as RULA and NIOSH lifting equation were used and 28 processes in the lines were evaluated to be potentially hazardous. We ergonomically improved the processes to reduce potential WMSDs hazards : manual material handling, carts, work tables, transport methods, working posture and hand tools.

  • Due to the fast industrial growth and unplanned urban underground development in Korea, systematic management for water lines could not be accomplished. Unsystematic water line management has resulted in difficulty in finding the exact location and the age of the lines, which has the potential of leading to a disastrous situation. The objective of this study is a development of safety management system for water lines using GIS. This system is constructed to easily estimate water line deterioration by the geographic output system on it, search for damaged objectives near the surrounding area in a situation of destruction, and offer the emergency information by which one can quickly take action. Also, it is constructed to prevent accidents from occurring during work by presenting underground utilities and states of work.

  • Background: Safety, efficacy, and time to onset of effect of botulinum toxin type A is of importance to persons who seek improvement in glabellar frown lines, but this has not been well studied. The aim of this study was to determine the safety, efficacy, and onset of action of a newly developed botulinum toxin type A (Nabota) for the treatment of glabellar frown lines. Methods: This was a single-arm, open-label, and phase 4 clinical study. Forty-two subjects with glabellar lines were treated with five times of intramuscular injection of 0.1 mL (4 U/0.1 mL) for a total of 20 U of Nabota. Efficacy and safety were assessed at 2, 3, 4, 5, and 14 days. Efficacy was assessed by the investigator and it was defined as a 1-point change on a 4-point scale. Results: Improvement in glabellar frown lines at maximum frown was observed in 85.4% of subjects 2 days after administration. Improvement in glabellar lines at rest was observed in 51.2% of subjects 2 days after administration, and the proportion of subjects showing improvement increased with time. No severe adverse events were recorded. Conclusion: Onset of action was observed in the majority of subjects by 2 days after administration of Nabota. In addition, Nabota was found to be safe and effective for the treatment of glabellar frown lines.

  • Background: This work presents an experimental and modeling study of the electromagnetic environment in the vicinity of a high voltage substation located in eastern Algeria (Annaba city) specified with a very high population density. The effects of electromagnetic fields emanating from the coupled multi-lines high voltage power systems (MLHV) on the health of the workers and people living in proximity of substations has been analyzed. Methods: Experimental Measurements for the Multi-lines power system proposed have been conducted in the free space under the high voltage lines. Field's intensities were measured using a referenced and calibrated electromagnetic field meter PMM8053B for the levels 0 m, 1 m, 1.5 m and 1.8 m witch present the sensitive's parts as organs and major functions (head, heart, pelvis and feet) of the human body. Results: The measurement results were validated by numerical simulation using the finite element method and these results are compared with the limit values of the international standards. Conclusion: We project to set own national standards for exposure to electromagnetic fields, in order to achieve a regional database that will be at the disposal of partners concerned to ensure safety of people and mainly workers inside high voltage electrical substations.

  • This study was attempted to analyze risk factors and suggest accident prevention in live line works for power transmission lines to be developed and applied in Korea. Safety problem cannot but occur at development of live line works and application to the field. With respect to this, problems likely to occur in the field among works adopting methods of works including live line works for power transmission lines were investigated and analyzed through documentary survey and risk assessment method. The results are summarized as follows. A risk assessment method model was suggested. This method enables scientific and systematic development of safety control. That is, the owner may autonomously induce safety control and build risk assessment database by work process to use them as best training data for workers. Also, in the field, it may induce all workers to participate in safety program and secure safety by making workers seek for safety working method under smooth flow from looking at risk factors to accident prevention activities. It is deemed that this humble study will prevent both accident and injury likely to occur in live line works for power transmission lines.

  • This paper shows that the configuration of power transmission lines currently in place is suitable on the basis of calculated magnetic field strengths. The magnetic fields were computed for typical current distributions on power transmission lines for electric railways, which are characterized by severe load fluctuations and phase distortions. The result of the numerical analysis are compared with th ELF guidelines of magnetic fields from several case studies. The final conclusion reached in that effects of the magnetic fields near power transmission lines for electric railways are not significant enough to cause a biological safety concern.

  • This paper considers the sequencing of products in mixed model assembly lines. The sequence which minimizes overall utility work in car assembly lines reduce the cycle time, the number of utility workers, and the risk of conveyor stopping. The sequencing problem is solved using Tabu Search. Tabu Search is a heuristic method which can provide a near optimal solution in real time. Various examples are presented and experimental results are reported to demonstrate the efficiency of the technique.
