  • 벤토나이트 완충재는 공학적방벽재 중 하나로 고준위방사성폐기물의 안전한 처분을 위해 매우 중요한 기능을 수행한다. 특정 지하수 조건에 의해 벤토나이트에 침식 혹은 파이핑 현상이 발생할 수 있으며, 이는 공학적방벽의 전반적인 안전성에 영향을 미친다. 이와 관련된 국내 선행 연구는 모두 실험실 규모에서 수행되었기 때문에, 그 결과의 유용함에도 불구하고 일정 부분 한계를 지닌다. 따라서 한국원자력연구원은 BEPT(Bentonite Erosion and Piping Test)를 계획하여 현장 조건으로의 확장 및 실증 연구를 수행할 계획이다. 자세한 실험 설계에 앞서, 처분 관련 기술 선도국에서 수행된 선행 연구를 수집하여 분석하였다. 적합 실험 부지, 시스템 설계 등을 분석하여 BEPT 상세 설계 시 반영하였다. 본 기술보고는 조사한 해외 사례와 함께 현재 진행 중인 BEPT 실험 현황을 소개하기 위해 작성되었다.

CNG 충전소의 USN 적용에 관한 연구 (Study on Application of USN in CNG Station)

  • 국내 대기오염의 개선을 목적으로 2006년 6월부터 천연가스 차량이 보급되었다. 천연가스 차량의 보급은 대기환경 개선에 큰 역할을 하였으며 이러한 결과에 힘입어 환경부는 2012년까지 시내버스의 약 90%를 CNG 버스로 대체할 예정이다. 하지만 CNG 버스에서 발생한 사고로 인해 시민들의 천연가스에 대한 인식이 부정적으로 변하고, 이에 따라 CNG 충전소의 보급이 어려워지고 있다. 이 논문에서는 CNG 충전소의 안전성을 향상시키기 위해 신규 센서를 설치하였다. 신규센서의 설치시 데이터 통신선등의 문제점이 발생하였다. 신규 센서 설치시 문제점을 해결하기 위한 USN 기술의 데이터 송수신사용하였고 모니터링에 대하여 기술하였다.

  • 고속열차의 설계 및 운행기술이 발전하면서 고속철도의 운행속도가 빠르게 증속되고 있다. 반면 증속 시 발생하는 소음으로 인해 고속철도 연변의 주거지역 등에서는 많은 소음문제가 발생하고 있으며, 고속철도 소음에 대한 민원도 지속적인 증가추세에 있다. 향후 고속철도가 원활히 설계속도대로 운행되기 위해서는 고속철도의 방사소음특성에 적합한 소음예측기술 및 저감기술이 개발되어야 한다. 이와 같은 요구에 부합하기 위해, 400 km/h 고속철도 인프라 연구가 수년에 걸쳐 진행되었다. 이 연구를 통해 신뢰성을 갖는 고속철도 소음예측평가 기술이 개발되었고, 현재 소음저감기술의 단점을 극복하기 위한 핵심방음장치가 개발되었다. 본 연구의 궁극적인 목적은 고속철도 환경소음을 줄이기 위해 개발된 선로 변 벽체 상단에 설치되는 상단장치의 소음성능평가 및 풍압안전성 검증에 관한 것이다.

한국의 카보타지를 위한 선원양성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Seafarers Education for Cabotage in KOREA)

  • 무역장벽의 일종인 카보타지는 자국내 내항해운업을 보호하여 왔다. 자국에서 건조한 선박으로 자국 선원이 승선하여 자국의 화물을 운송한다는 카보타지를 운영한 미국은 조선산업과 해운 연관산업이 유지되어 왔다. 그리고 대부분의 국가는 경제적 이유와 유사시 대처라는 이유 때문에 자국적 선박을 통해 저탄소 운송인 내항해운을 담당하는 카보타지를 운영하고 있다. 카보타지를 유지하기 위해서는 선원의 안정적인 공급이 필요하다. 선원의 안정적인 공급은 선원양성 교육기관의 안정적인 운영에 달려있기 때문에 법률적인 검토가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 내항해운의 안정적 선원공급을 통한 카보타지 확립에 관련하여 우리나라 내항해운의 문제점과 선원 실태를 분석하였다. 분석결과 미국과 같은 선원양성에 관련한 법률을 제정하거나 정비할 필요가 있음을 확인하였다.

토석류 방재구조물 성능 검토 수치해석 - Case study: 부산 백양산 (Case Study for Efficiency of Counter-Debrisflow Structures in Baekyang Mt.)

  • The number of landslides has increased since the 2000s due to the increased frequency of heavy rainfall caused by abnormal weather. A variety of debris flow prevention facilities have been installed as a countermeasure against this problem. However, it is not easy to evaluate the efficiency of debris flow prevention structures except for the structures with constant volume such as the erosion dam, because the other structures are limited to be reproduced in simulation program for debris flow. Therefore, the methods by which the debris flow prevention structures were modeled were proposed, and the efficiency of four prevention structures installed in Baekyang Mt. in Busan was evaluated with UDS, which accuracy had been verified, using these methods. The initial amount of debris flow was determined based on landslide which occurred in 2014, and specifications of the complex retaining walls around the settlements were measured and applied modeling for terrain. The numerical results showed that the efficiency of debris flow prevention structures could be quantitatively presented. Among the debris flow prevention structures installed in Baekyang Mt., prevention structure of barrier type for debris flow was the most efficiency and debris flow prevention device was the lowest efficiency when the only depth of debris was evaluated. It seems that this study is meaningful to propose the methods which were used to model the debris flow prevention structures that could not be reproduced in most 2D debris flow numerical analysis programs. If precise verification of the presented methods is carried out, it will be possible to provide clear criteria for the efficiency evaluation method of disaster prevention structures.

Assessment of Universal Design for Seoullo 7017 in Seoul, Korea - Using a New Seven Universal Design Principles -

  • The purpose of this research is to evaluate Seoullo 7017 based on Universal Design (UD) principles and guidelines. To derive UD principles applicable to the site context, we used the 2017 Seoul Universal Design Guideline and assessment index provided by the Universal Design Research Center and established 11 evaluation criteria. With respect to research methods, a literature review and on-site field survey were applied, through which we derived UD principles and evaluation criteria to identify UD problems. The 11 evaluation criteria consist of pedestrian space, facilities, access, main entrance, parking lots, trails, restrooms, convenience facilities, information facilities, rest areas, and playgrounds, and these were associated with UD principles for evaluation. As a result, the main entrance had the highest UD score, while parking lots had the lowest in terms of equity, safety, simplicity, and accessibility. Restrooms received a lower UD score because of poor conditions of security and alert systems. Rest areas were found to be uncomfortable for disabled people. With respect to the internal trails, we found the lack of braille block and irregular placement of planting pots made blind people uncomfortable when walking. In terms of UD principles, flexibility received the highest score, followed by amenity, equity, simplicity, tolerance, accessibility, and safety. Flexibility received the highest score, owing to the provision of proper information about convenience facilities and trails, while safety received the lowest, based on poor access to parking lots, inadequate paving materials and colors, and a lack of 24-hour security systems. We hope this research contributes to improving the universal design, so that people are not discriminated against in the use of the park in terms of age, sex, or physical disability. We expect the study to help facilitate empirical studies to verify UD principles and provide improved quality of UD for Seoullo 7017.

플랫폼 기반 배달 이륜차 교통사고 영향요인 분석 (Analysis on Factors Contributing to Motorcycle Accidents of Food Delivery Riders)

  • The total number of Korean restaurants using delivery applications has substantially increased from 7.6% in 2018 to 11.2% in 2019. In 2020, the gross sales in the food delivery service market reached approximately 17 trillion won; this amount is virtually six times that in 2017 (i.e., 2 trillion won). Meanwhile, the annual average death toll of motorcycle riders increased by 3.5%, whereas the number of deaths due to other traffic accidents decreased by 8.2%. Consequently, the foregoing has become a critical social problem. Despite the continuing increase in the number of delivery riders due to the rapid expansion of the delivery industry, no appropriate safety management system has been established. Moreover, the government is experiencing difficulties in assessing the exact situation because of the absence of competent authority. In this study, fundamental data on the characteristics of delivery work and motorcycle accidents were collected through surveys and interviews; then, the influencing factors of traffic accidents were analyzed. Different influencing factors were identified: work experience as a rider; number of deliveries; whether to accept delivery requests in transit; manner of accepting delivery requests; and traffic law violations, such as speeding (for faster delivery) and running a red light. Because the motorcycle delivery industry has a relatively low job-entry barrier (i.e., special qualifications are not required), the riding skills of riders must be improved, and delivery companies must be technically developed to achieve a safe working environment. The results of this study can be utilized as fundamental data for system development or structural improvement of the delivery industry.

A circular economical application of eggshell waste as a bio-filler in the fabrication of gum Arabic composite film

  • The poultry industry faces disposal difficulty in waste, but recent advancements in material science and sustainability have enabled the innovative transformation of waste into valuable resources. In this study, eggshell (EC) was added as a bio-filler to gum Arabic (GA) to fabricate a GA-EC bio-composite film. Bio-composites containing 0.5 g (GA-EC0.5) and 1.0 g (GA-EC1.0) EC dispersed in 30 mL of 15% GA solution were fabricated and characterized using standard analytical techniques. The GA-EC0.5 composites showed significantly higher moisture content, transparency, water solubility, and water vapor permeability but lower tensile strength and thermal stability than GA-EC1.0. Following a post-harvest wrapping of tomato fruits with the GA-EC composite films and storage at 25±2℃ for 20 days, significant (p>0.05) reductions in weight loss, pH, lycopene content, and activities of polyphenol oxidase and pectin methylesterase compared to unwrapped fruits were recorded. Adding EC to GA has enabled the fabrication of composite films with improved mechanical, barrier, and thermal properties with potential application in the post-harvest storage of tomato fruits.

Barrier Free Accessibility to Trains for All

  • This paper is the output of a collaborative European project concerning the barrier free accessibility for disabled persons to regional and long distance trains in Europe. Disabled people represent around 13% of the population in Europe. This is approximately 63 million people. The range of disabilities includes people with reduced mobility including wheel chair users, viewing and hearing impaired people and other forms of impairment. Improving accessibility aims at contributing to the provision of public transport services to all citizens in an equitable way. The purpose of the project was to analyse and to evaluate the existing solutions at selected European railways for all required modules at the entrance (doors, information and safety solutions), to derive a design concept, to develop a mock-up in meeting the needs of rail travellers with the above mentioned impairments and to test it with user groups. The project also aims at deriving components for the determination of standards. The EUPAX Design Mock-up test was performed to verify the advantages of the layout of the train segment including the different modules such as access area (including the access door, gaps between platform and train as well as boarding aid devices), entrance vestibule, information systems inside and outside the train, emergency facilities, toilet with all conveniences and the additional test arrangements regarding push buttons, steps and emergency equipment. For this purpose a questionnaire was developed for the assessment of the EUPAX segment and the additional test arrangements. With the help of this questionnaire it was possible to execute a quantitative and qualitative evaluation. During three test phases 67 experts and handicapped persons from 6 countries have evaluated the Industrial Design mock-up based on this questionnaire. The test group covered persons from North (Denmark) to the South (Italy) and from the West (Spain) to the Middle of Europe (Germany). This is especially important for the generalization (harmonisation) of the results for all European countries. According to COST 335 the information for people with reduced mobility should be clear, concise, accurate and timely. So that all information can be received from persons, they must be transferred on at least two of the three possible ways (acoustical, visual, tactile), a so called "2-sense-principle". Based on the results ergonomic specifications/ solutions for the ergonomic design of the access area, the acoustic, visual and tactile information and the emergency devices including the emergency communication system were developed, related to the benefiting passenger groups.

국내 벤토나이트 완충재의 함수특성곡선 평가 (Evaluation of Soil-Water Characteristic Curve for Domestic Bentonite Buffer)

  • 원자력발전소를 운영하게 되면 사용후핵연료와 같은 고준위방사성폐기물이 필연적으로 발생한다. 이러한 고준위방사성폐기물을 처분하기 위해 심층처분방식이 가장 적합한 대안으로 알려져 있으며 고준위방사성폐기물은 공학적방벽과 천연방벽에 둘러 쌓여 지하 500~1,000 m 깊이의 심지층에 처분된다. 이 중 압축 벤토나이트 완충재는 공학적방벽의 가장 중요한 구성요소이다. 완충재는 처분용기와 자연 암반 사이에 위치해 있기에 주변 지하수 흐름으로부터 처분용기를 보호하고 처분 용기로부터 핵종이 유출되는 것을 저지하는 역할을 한다. 주변 지하수 흐름으로 인한 완충재의 불포화 함수특성 규명은 전체 공학적방벽의 성능을 평가하는데 있어 매우 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실내 시험을 수행하여 국내 압축 벤토나이트 완충재의 건조밀도, 구속조건 여부, 그리고 건조 및 포화 이력에 따른 압축 벤토나이트 완충재의 함수특성곡선을 도출하여 분석하였다. 구속 조건하에서 건조밀도에 따른 함수특성곡선은 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 또한 비구속 조건이 구속 조건에 비해 보다 큰 수분흡입력을 나타냈으며, 아울러 포화 과정보다 건조 과정에서 보다 큰 수분흡인력이 측정되었다.
