  • Recently, amid active research on domestic shipbuilding industry and IT convergence technology, with the development of satellite detection technology for ship safety operation, ships monitored the movement of ships with the mandatory long-range identification & tracking of vessels and automatic identification system. It is possible to help safe navigation, but it is necessary to develop safety device that alert the marine officer who rely on radar to correct conditions in case of weightlessness. Therefore, an ocean fog alarm system was developed to detect and inform using photo sensors. The fabricated ocean fog detect and alarm system consists of a small, low-power optical sensor transceiver and data sensing processing module. Through experiment, it is confirmed that the fabricated ocean fog detect and alarm system measure the corresponding concentration of ocean fog for fogless circumstance and fogbound circumstance, respectively. Furthermore, the fabricated system can control RPM of ship engine according to the concentration of ocean fog, and consequently, the fabricated system can be applied to assistant device for ship safety operation.

  • For safe operation of ships and management of marine fisheries farms, the data set that extracts the boundaries of marine fisheries farms can provide information on obstacles in the vessel's navigation path in advance by examining whether it matches the fishing ground permit area. In addition, it can be used to determine whether fish farms are operating to compensate for damage caused by marine accidents, and the relevant local government can use it to manage fishing grounds. It is also highly utilized as basic data to identify obstacles for safe navigation of ships. In this study, Sentinel-2 satellite image data from the European Space Agency (ESA) was used to extract the boundaries of fish farms. From the video image, the fish farm's status data by cycle was divided into five zones: Busan-Ulsan area, Geoje-Changwon area, Goseong-Tongyeong area, and Namhae-Sacheon area. Through the image highlighting process, the farm boundary data and meta data were processed and extracted.

  • Safe aircraft requires highly reliable navigation information. The traditionally used inertial navigation system (INS) often displays faulty location information due to its innate errors. To overcome this, the INS/GNSS or INS/TRN integrated navigation can be used. However, GNSS is vulnerable to jamming and spoofing, while TRN can be degraded in the flat and repetitive terrains. In this paper, to improve the performance and ensure the high reliability of the navigation system, the INS/GNSS/TRN integrated navigation based on federated filter is designed. Master filter of the integrated navigation uses the estimates and covariances of two local filters - INS/GNSS and INS/TRN integrated filters. The local filters are designed with the EKF that is feedforward type and composed of the 17st state variables. And the INS/GNSS integrated navigation includes the barometer error compensation method. Finally, the proposed INS/GNSS/TRN integrated navigation is verified by vehicle and captive flight tests.

  • This study provided safe sailing speed and appropriate passing time to areas of known strong current water to prevent marine accident of the ships. To the interpretation of these data which target Myeongnyang waterway, AIS data of the ship was collected from $12^{th}$ July to $15^{th}$ July 2010 and site environment was investigated on $4^{th}$ September 2010. On the basis of the collected data, the 'Minimum Navigation Speed' and 'Optimum Navigation Speed' were calculated. It has also considered the 'Spare control force' or allowance and the 'Respond Rudder Angle' for each tidal current speed. Additionally, it suggested the safe passing time to strong current area by analyzing tidal level and tidal current speed. The conclusion of the research are as follows : (1) If the flow rate is greater than 4.4 kn, it is difficult for the model ship to control herself by her own steering power and to cope with tidal current pressure force and yaw moment caused by the tidal current.. (2) The minimum navigation speed should be over 2.3 times the tidal current and the optimum navigation speed should be over 4.0 times the tidal current. (3) When spring tide, the optimum passing time at Myeongnyang waterway is between 30 minutes to 1 hour before the time of high/low water, and at 5 hours after high/low water, passing of ships should be avoided because it is time when the flow rate is over 4 kn.

  • Obstacle avoidance is one of the most important parts of autonomous mobile robot. In this study, we proposed safe and efficient local path planning of robot for obstacle avoidance. The proposed method detects and tracks obstacles using the 3D depth information of an RGB-D sensor for path prediction. Based on the tracked information of obstacles, the paths of the obstacles are predicted with probability circle-based spatial search (PCSS) method and Gaussian modeling is performed to reduce uncertainty and to create the cost function of caution. The possibility of collision with the robot is considered through the predicted path of the obstacles, and a local path is generated. This enables safe and efficient navigation of the robot. The results in various experiments show that the proposed method enables robots to navigate safely and effectively.

  • Keeping in mind that there are only limited social, economic and administrative resources for reducing marine casualties, the result of statistical survey showed the loopholes of safe maritime transport system, and rendered that most casualties occurred in coastal waters by human errors. When the IMO Marine Casualty Investigation Code was utilized to reveal any structural vulnerability of the international measures, IMO was required to expand its roles to enhance the interface between Liveware and Environment of SHEL model. So, several risk assessment models were studied and found that Maritime Safety Audit System of the Republic of Korea could be a good example of enhancing safe interface between navigators (Liveware) and the navigational circumstances (Environment). It could be dealt with at IMO level as a tool for applying at human error enforcing waters. International cooperative research for upgrading risk assessment modes should also be future terms of reference.

IMO, develops a broad strategy for incorporating the use of new technologies in a structured way to ensure that their use is compliant with the various electronic navigational and communication technologies and services that are already available. As a base research for E-Navigation, therefore, this paper proposes a maritime information network based on Mesh Network that is one of the maritime broadband solutions. Firstly, this paper analyzes an international port network system and the requirements of port network for E-Navigation. • Some things come easily to humans, one of them is the ability to navigate around. This capability of navigation suffers significantly in case of partial or complete blindness, restricting life activity. Advances in the technological landscape have given way to new solutions aiding navigation for the visually impaired. In this paper, we analyze the existing works and identify the challenges of path selection, context awareness, obstacle detection/identification and integration of visual and nonvisual information associated with real-time assisted mobility. In the process, we explore machine learning approaches for robotic path planning, multi constrained optimal path computation and sensor based wearable assistive devices for the visually impaired. It is observed that the solution to problem is complex and computationally intensive and significant effort is required towards the development of richer and comfortable paths for safe and smooth navigation of visually impaired people. We cannot overlook to explore more effective strategies of acquiring surrounding information towards autonomous mobility.
