  • Driving performance is characterized by many things such as driver's experience period, age, ability of information processing and reaction time of control devices and so forth. However, each factor of driving performance is needed to help and screen a poor driver for safe driving. In this paper, driving performance was estimated by reaction of manipulating brake, accelerator, steering wheel and speed. Subjects were grouped by experience of accident and age. Combinations of every group were analysed. For all the dependent variables, only steering wheel and speed were shown to have significant difference, which could be regarded as visual information of speed and direction were the important factors to drive safely. Especially for tile elderly, it is needed to enhance their ability of visual information processing that is to be decreased with aging. Therefore driving simulator to train and screen the poor driver should be studied.

  • In general, tube drawing process is composed of two steps, so called first drawing and second drawing. Drawing cracks are mainly occurred during the 2nd drawing process due to the improper drawing process. In order to analyze the reduction distribution in successive two-step drawing process, tube drawing process was simulated by finite element method. From the finite element analysis, the balance between first and second reduction is proved to be important factor to prevent drawing cracks. Hence the numerical expression was developed for tube drawing process to distribute even strain and criteria curves that can predict the safe drawing region were also proposed using this numerical formula.

  • This paper presents the design, fabrication and characterization of a 32 by 32 electroplated micromirror array on a glass, a low cost substrate. Approaches taken in this work for the fabrication of micromachined mirror arrays include a line addressing scheme, a seamless array design for high fill factor, planarization techniques of polymeric interlayers, a high yield methodology for the removal of sacrificial polymeric interlayers, and low temperature and chemically safe fabrication techniques. The micromirror is fabricated by aluminum and the size of a single micromirror is 200 $\mu\textrm{m}{\;}{\times}200{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$. Static deflection test of the micro-mirror has been carried out and pull-in voltage of 44V and releasing voltage of 30V was found.

  • Recently, underground spaces can be usually applied to the alternative of land use for parking. However, lack of window and natural light are among the most cited drawbacks associated with dark image of underground. If underground parking lots are designed to be positive and safe environment for people, openings for daylighting will play a significant role. The natural light and unobstructed view to outdoor are main elements to create optimal underground parking lots. This paper focuses on investigating the actual day lighting conditions and evaluating the day lighting performance of openings as potential lighting resources. For the study, the field measurements and Questionnaire surveys are conducted. And then, the day lighting performance of underground parking lots based on opening geometry and orientation are evaluated by scaled model experiments. As results, the feelings of safety and orientation of underground parking lots are improved by openings for day lighting regardless of the sizes. The required illuminances (daylight factor 0.5%) for underground parking lots can be satisfied in the skylight opening ratio of 4% or more.

  • This study analyzed the reductive effect of lateral flow by the section and height of reinforcement of EPS. The conclusions of the study are as follows. (1) The lateral flow increased as the section of reinforcement decreased. The reinforcement section that satisfied the allowable range of the lateral flow turned out to beapproximately 80% of the standard reinforcement section. (2) As reinforcement height was decreasing, the lateral flow increased. The reinforcement heigh that satisfied the allowable range of the lateral flow turned out to be approximately 50% of the total lateral height of abutment.

  • Safety is emphasized in nuclear power plant system for its characteristic. One of the most important systems to guarantee the safety of nuclear power plant is the PPS(Power protection system). The measurement control system includes PPS, which is similar to the human nervous system, is very important factor not only for the safety but also for the operation. Therefore, developing a technology to level up the performance of measurement system and reliability of the plant will bring cost-effective and safe generation of nuclear power. In this study, I researched composition of digitized PPS and algorithm for cyclic inspection.

  • This paper presents a new numerical algorithm suitable for defining recloser reclaims time and blocking automatic reclosing during permanent faults on overhead lines. It is based on terminal voltage input data processing. The decision if it is safe or not to reclose is determined from the voltage signal of faulted and tripped line phase using Total Harmonic Distortion factor calculated by Discrete Fourier Transform. The algorithm was successfully tested using signals recorded on the real power system. The tests demonstrate the ability of presented algorithm to determine the secondary arc extinction time and to block unsuccessful automatic reclosing of HV lines with permanent fault.

  • The heat generated in the high-Tc superconducting (HTS) devices is related with the cost efficiency and safe factor of HTS devices. This paper deals with the quench at the conduction-cooled joint between the HTS wire and copper terminals. The 3-D numerical simulation of this phenomenon was implemented and compared with the experimental results. The experiment was implemented with the HTS wire mounted on the copper blocks cooled with a Gifford McMahon (GM) cryocooler.

  • This paper presents an accelerated life test of aviation taxiway lights installed in the airport to help safe navigation of airplanes at night or in bad weather. Recently halogen lamps of taxiway lights are replaced by LED ones and their reliability needs yet to be verified. Thus, effective test conditions are designed reflecting the failure modes and mechanisms from the previous studies on LED, which include the accelerated degradation process. The test is performed under the temperature $70^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$ for two types of LED lights, taxiway center line lights(TCLL) and taxiway edge lights (TEDL). The failure time data were analyzed using lognormal distribution and Arrhenius model to find the life-stress relationship, acceleration factor and life characteristics under the normal condition temperature $30^{\circ}C$.

  • PURPOSES : Safety consciousness can be the first factor to hinder the acceptance of design alternative, which moderates the applied design criteria in order to adapt the road to the natural terrain condition. METHODS : The method which enables to check the safety of design alternative by using design consistency concept is suggested. The method is based on the linked or interactive analysis between terrain and road alignment. Real design example is considered as a guide how to apply the method and the analysis result is discussed with the future research. RESULTS : Suggested method can be used for designers as a tool to review their design outputs can be safe as much as the original design. So, designers have the more objective judgement on their designs and have the confidence on their designs. CONCLUSIONS : The method is expected to be used as a tool to see the safety consciousness in an objective view, so any possible conflicts between designers and design-related personnels caused by the terrain-oriented design can be solved.
