Corrosion Behavior of Arc Weld and Friction Stir Weld in Al 6061-T6 Alloys

  • For the evaluation of corrosion resistance of Al 6061-T6 alloy, Tafel method and immersion test was performed with Friction Stir Weld(FSW) and Gas Metal Arc Weld(GMAW). The Tafel and immersion test results indicated that GMA weld was severely attacked compared with those of friction stir weld. It may be mainly due to the galvanic corrosion mechanism act on the GMA weld.

  • To evaluate the applicability of dissimilar metal friction stir welding in automobile manufacturing process, friction stir welding trials were carried out for typical 5000 and 6000 series aluminum alloy sheets with 2mm thickness. The sound joints of A15052 and A16061-T6 alloys were successfully formed under a wide range of welding condition. Excellent weld ability has been obtained at a condition of rotating speed 2000rpm and travel speed 100mm/min, while a radiographic test also confirmed defect free joint for this condition. Through the Erichsen cup test, the plastic formability of the FSWelded joints was found to be about 83% of base metal.

  • Friction stir welding (FSW) is a solid state joining method patented in 1991 by The Welding Institute (TWI). It is widely used for joining light metals such as Al and Mg alloys. Foreign railway vehicle manufacturing companies have been applying FSW to car body welding, but domestic companies are in the beginning of feasibility study. Therefore, lots of experimental and analytical study is needed. In this study, three-dimensional finite element modeling of the friction stir welding of two Al6061-T6 plates was carried out. And temperature field and residual stresses were obtained and compared to experimental results in the literature. It is found the analytic thermal field is in a good agreement with the experimental results, but there are some differences between numerical and experimental residual stresses.

The Quality Characteristics of Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bert) Leaf Tea according to Different Manufacturing Processes (스테비아 잎차의 제조 방법에 따른 품질 특성)

  • In order to develop tea by using the leaves of stevia, which is a herbal plant, and to solve the disadvantages of stevia dried leaf tea, we have manufactured the steamed tea, stir-fried tea and fermented tea by changing the manufacturing processes. As a result of the sensory tests, the steamed tea, stir-fried tea and fermented tea received higher evaluations than the dried leaf tea. In terms of efficiency, it is desired that the total number of steaming and stir-frying is only once, but the fermentation is found to be the most desirable for 2 days. There are no trends for changes in the general ingredients, mineral and free amino acid contents of stevia leaf teas by different manufacturing processes. As a result for the measurement of antioxidant activities, the steamed tea and dried leaf tea did not show significant differences, but the stir-fried tea and the fermented tea show significantly low antioxidant activities as compared to the steamed tea. The contents of stevioside in both the stir-fried tea and the fermented tea were less than that in the dried leaf tea, but in the steamed tea, there was no significant difference in the content of stevioside. Base on the present observations, this study supports high potentials of steaming process in order to produce new stevia leaf tea.

Dissimilar Friction Stir Welding Characteristics of Mg Alloys(AZ31 and AZ61) (AZ31와 AZ61 마그네슘 합금의 이종 마찰교반용접 특성)

  • Friction stir welding is a solid-state joining process and is useful for joining dissimilar metal sheets. In this study, the experimental conditions of the friction stir welding were determined by the two-way factorial design to evaluate the characteristics of the dissimilar friction stir welding of AZ31 and AZ61 magnesium alloys. The levels of rotation speed and welding speed, which are welding variables, were 1000, 2000, 3000 rpm and 100, 200, 300 mm/min, respectively. From the results, the greater the rotation speed and the lower the welding speed of the tool were, the greater the tensile strength of the welded part was. The contribution of the welding speed of the tool is larger than that of the rotation speed of the tool. In addition, the optimal conditions for tensile strength in the dissimilar friction stir joint were predicted to be the rotation speed of 3000 rpm and welding speed of 100 mm/min, and the tensile strength under the optimal conditions was estimated to be $214{\pm}6.57Mpa$ with 99% reliability.

Selection of TI for Suppression Fat Tissue of SPAIR and Comparative Study of SPAIR and STIR of Brain Fast SE T2 Weighted Imaging (뇌의 고속스핀에코 T2강조영상에서 지방조직 억제를 위한 SPAIR의 반전시간(TI) 결정 및 STIR 영상과의 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to seek SPAIR's reversal time (TI) which satisfies two conditions ; maintaining the suppression ability of fat tissue and simultaneously minimizing the inhomogeneity of fat tissue in T2 high-speed spin echo 3.0T magnetic resonance image (MRI) of the brain, and to compare SPAIR with STIR which is fat-suppression technique. The reversal times (TI) of SPAIR protocol are set to 1/2, 1/3, 1/6 and 1/12 of SPAIR TR (420 msec), namely 210 msec (8 people), 140 msec (26 people), 70 msec (26 people) and 35 msec (18 people) and STIR TI is set with 250 msec (26 people). With these parameter sets, we acquired the axis direction 104 images of the brain. In ROI ($50\;mm^2$) of output image, signal intensities of the fatty tissue, the muscular tissue, and the background were measured and the CNRs of fatty tissue and the muscular tissue were calculated. The inhomogeneity of the fatty tissue is SD/mean, where SD is the standard deviation and 'mean' is a average fatty tissue signal. Consequently, SPAIR TI is determined on either 1/3 or 1/6 of TR (420 ms) ; 140 ms or 70 ms. Because the difference of statistics in fat-suppression ability and inhomogeneity of fatty tissue is very small (p < 0.001), Selecting 140 ms seems to be better choice for the image quality. Meanwhile, Comparing SPAIR (TI : 140 ms) with STIR, the fat-suppression is not able to be considered statistically (p < 0.252), but the image quality is able to be considered statistically (p < 0.01). In conclusion, SPAIR is better than STIR in the image quality.
