A Study on the Effects of Small Enterprise Start-up Preparatory Factors on Business Performance

  • Purpose - The present study aims to examine the relationship between small enterprise start-up preparatory factors and increases in sales and operating profits, which are business performances utilizing the National Survey of Actual Conditions of Small Enterprises conducted by the Small Enterprise, Market Service. Research design, data, and methodology - Start-up preparatory factors were divided into six types; business type, start-up history, start-up motives, preparatory periods, and start-up funds to figure out the relationship between sales and operating profits with regression analyses. Regression analyses were conducted based on the foregoing with a view to identifying the effects of start-up preparatory factors on business performance. Results - Since start-up preparatory factors generally affect business performance, it was identified that start-up preparatory factors importantly affect operating profits and sales, which are business performances. However, start-up preparatory periods and the implementation of education among preparatory activities were shown to have no effect on business performances, and the effect of the ratio of start-up fund provided by the founder on operating profits was shown to be not significant. Conclusions - The present study comprehensively examined those start-up preparatory factors that have positive effects on business performances after start-up. The present study is meaningful in that it can provide positive implications for efficient start-up of small enterprises hereafter.

초기 창업기업 창업지원정책의 효과성 분석: 창업업종 및 창업성장단계 조절효과 (Effectiveness Analysis of Startup Support Policy of Early Start-ups: Moderating Effect of the Industry and Growth Stage of the Start-ups)

  • 본 연구는 초기 창업기업 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 창업지원정책을 실증적으로 규명하고, 현재의 창업지원정책에 대한 효과성을 측정하여, 이를 토대로 향후 정책적 방향을 제시하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 창업지원정책이 초기 창업기업의 성과에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석하고, 창업기업의 특성으로 창업업종 및 창업성장단계에 따라 어떠한 차이점이 있는지 확인하였다. 연구대상은 초기창업패키지 사업에 선정된 최근 3년간 창업기업 297개의 실제 테이터를 수집하여, 변수 간 영향력은 다중회귀분석, 조절효과는 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 창업지원정책과 창업성과의 영향 관계 확인 결과, 매출은 창업자금, 창업멘토링, 창업인프라(공간) 모두 유의한 영향을 보였으며, 반면 창업교육은 매출증가에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 고용은 창업멘토링만이 유의한 영향 관계임을 확인하였다. 둘째, 창업업종과 창업성장단계의 조절효과 확인 결과, 창업업종은 통계적으로 유의한 영향력을 미치지 못하였으나, 상호작용 효과는 창업교육에서 유의하게 나타났다. 구체적으로 업종별 매출 관계는 지식서비스는 창업교육이 매출향상에 도움을 주며, 제조는 창업멘토링과 창업인프라(공간) 지원 여부와 관계없이 모두 매출향상에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 창업성장단계별 매출 관계는 통계적으로 유의한 영향력을 확인하였다. 예비단계는 통계적으로 유의하지 않으며, 창업단계는 창업멘토링 지원, 성장단계는 창업자금 지원이 효과적인 것으로 확인되었다. 반면 고용은 창업성장단계에 따라 유의한 영향력을 미치지 못하였다. 본 연구는 초기 창업기업 대상 창업지원정책의 효과성을 분석하여, 창업기업 특성에 따른 차별적 정책지원의 필요성을 확인하고, 향후 정책적 방향에 대한 시사점을 제시하였다.

창업준비, 창업지원 및 액셀러레이터 지원활동이 창업만족에 미치는 영향 (A Effects of Start-up Preparation, Start-up Support Policy And Accelerator Support on Business Satisfaction)

  • 본 연구에서는 창업기업을 대상으로 이들 창업기업의 창업 전 창업준비, 창업기업에 대한 창업지원 및 액셀러레이터 지원활동이 창업만족에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 창업자 308명을 대상으로 실증적인 분석을 하였다. 주요 실증 결과는 다음과 같다. 창업준비, 창업지원 및 액셀러레이터 지원활동은 모두 창업기업의 창업만족에 정(+)의 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 창업준비의 하위요소 중 창업팀준비가 창업만족에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 점차 창업생태계에서 민간 창업지원체계의 중요성이 증대되고 있으며, 창업에 있어서 창업팀의 구성을 창업만족의 가장 중요한 요소로 보는 것과 일맥상통하는 점이 있다고 사료된다.

패션디자인관련 학과 내 창업교육 설계를 위한 기초연구 (Basic research for designing start up business education in fashion design related departments)

  • This study investigated students' perception of a starting up business in the fashion design related departments of two year colleges to present the basic data for designing a start up business education and examined the opening status of the start up business subjects. Only 4.4% of respondents answered that they had an experience in a start up. And 76.2% of respondents answered that they would like to start up a business after graduation. The initial start up types were "online shopping mall" and "blog market" in that order. Nearly 86.7% of respondents answered that they needed "start up" education in college. To the question of whether they would participate if there is a start up extracurricular program, and the subject they would choose, 40.9% answered "I want to get a start up related certification", showing the highest rate of interest in the course. The status of introducing start up business subjects in the regular courses in fashion design related departments in 25 two year colleges related that there were 11 start up related courses begun in the last semester, that is, the 2nd semester of the 2nd year. Since the proportion of clothing in online shopping malls is high, start up education based on the demands of students in fashion design majors can be used as another employment exit strategy.

기술창업교육캠프 참가 대학생의 창업역량 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Change in Start-up Competence of College Students Participating in Technology Start-up Education Camp)

  • It was only 2010 when start-up education spread to undergraduate education in South Korea. Start-up education was conducted so late that there are insufficient studies of evaluation and feedback on the effectiveness of start-up education. Education is a complex concept of teaching people in a desirable direction and developing their inherent abilities. Based on this, start-up education can be defined as cultivating students' entrepreneurial spirit internally and making them exhibit start-up competence externally by teaching them the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for business start-up and developing abilities such as creativity, challenge spirit and problem-solving skills. This study conducted pre and post survey to check if the education camp for the technology start-up, which is a practice-oriented start-up education, has an effect on the change of the participating students' perceptions about the business start-up. This study would analyze various factors of college students' business start-up through a factorial analysis so that the quantitative accumulation of start-up education can lead to a qualitative change and propose measures for the management of the quality of the education.

Does Early Incubating Improve the Performance of Start-ups?: Evidence from TIPS in Korea

  • Recently, the government has been pursuing various policies to create new industries and jobs through the invigoration of start-ups. For the sustained growth of start-ups, it is necessary to look not only at the supply of risk capital but also at policies for venture capital firms that nurture and foster start-ups. The purpose of this study is to estimate the effects of the nurturing and fostering role of risk capital, such as mentorship on the performance of start-ups, and to do this we analyzed the effects, as a newly introduced form of venture capital, of mentoring by an accelerator and investor ties on the performance outcomes of start-ups. We find that mentoring and investor ties for start-up enterprises positively influence follow-up investment in start-ups. In addition, this study finds that with a younger CEO of a start-up, it is more likely that the performance of the start-up will improve. Meanwhile, when examining increases in employment as a measure of the business performance of start-ups, mentoring and investor ties are found to have a positive effect on the increase of employment at start-ups. These results suggest that there is a need to promote policies that strengthen the mentoring role of venture capital in Korea's equity finance policies and in the government's SME support policies.

Successful vs. Failed Tech Start-ups in India: What Are the Distinctive Features?

  • The entrepreneurial journey is not short of challenges, and about 90% + tech start-ups experience failure (Startup Genome, 2019). The magnitude of the challenges varies across the tech start-up lifecycle stages, namely emergence, stability, and growth. This opens the research question, do the profiles of a start-up and its co-founder impact start-up success or failure across its lifecycle stages? This study aims to understand and identify the profiles of tech start-ups and their co-founders. We gathered primary data from 151 start-ups (Status: 101 failed and 50 successful ones), and they are across different lifecycle stages and represent six major start-up hubs in India. The chi-square test on status and start-up's lifecycle stage indicates a noticeable correlation, and they are not independent. The Kruskal Wallis test was used to distinguish statistically significant profile attributes. The parameters distinguishing success and failure are identified, and the need to deliver customer experience is emphasized by the start-up profile attributes: Product/service, high-tech nature of a start-up, investor fund availed, co-founder experience, and employee count. The importance of entrepreneurial experience is ascertained with entrepreneur profile attributes: Entrepreneurial expertise, the number of prior and current start-ups, their willingness to start again in the event of failure, and age of co-founder, which is a proxy to learning and experience. This study has implications for entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers.

The Study of Restaurant Start-up Education on Restaurant Start-up : Focus on Entrepreneurship

  • We would like to find out how restaurant start-up education affects restaurant start-ups. Recently, as low barriers to entry and endemics are approaching, more and more people want to start a restaurant business. However, while the market size of restaurant start-ups increases due to the high youth unemployment rate and changes in the social population structure, the probability of failure of start-ups is increasing due to the high competition rate. Therefore, this study aims to examine whether restaurant start-up education affects restaurant start-ups through entrepreneurship. This study conducted a survey on prospective start-ups. After that, demographic analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 23.0 program. As a result, it was found that entrepreneurship had an effect on restaurant start-ups. However, in future studies, more research is needed on the direction of improving and developing restaurant start-up education.

  • 창업은 참신한 아이디어 또는 경험과 노하우를 가진 창업가는 개인뿐만 아니라 국가 발전을 위해 매우 중요한 과제이다. 신규로 창업하는 대부분은 창업경험이 없는 경우가 많으며 창업기업이 성장, 발전할 수 있도록 정부와 대학에서는 창업보육센터(BI)를 운영하고 있다. 목표는 기술기반 창업기업의 성공률 제고에 있다. 창업기업의 다양한 니즈를 지원하고, 기업이 보유한 잠재력을 최대한 발휘할 수 있도록 함으로써 창업기업이 성공할 수 있도록 지원하고 있다. BI의 기대효과는 창업의 활성화를 통한 국가경제발전의 기여라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 BI의 효율적인 운영으로 발전 방안에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.

예비창업자의 개인적 규범과 창업준비 수준이 창업의지에 미치는 영향: 창업교육의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The Effect of Pre-entrepreneur's Individual Norm and Start-up Preparation Level on a Start-up Intention: Focusing on a Moderation Effect in Start-up Education)

  • 본 연구에서는 예비창업자의 개인적 규범과 창업준비수준이 창업의지에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 그리고 개인적 규범과 창업준비수준이 창업의지와의 관계에서 창업교육의 조절효과를 분석하였다. 이를 통해 창업을 계획하는 예비창업자들이 보다 성공적인 창업을 할 수 있도록 유용한 자료로 제공하고자 하는 목적을 위해 k 지역 소재 교육기관과 대학교에서 창업교육을 받은 예비창업자들을 대상으로 2017년 9월 13일에서 2017년 11월 14일까지 설문을 실시한 총 211부에서 통계에 활용이 어려운 11부를 제외한 200부를 최종 표본으로 선정하였다. 자료는 SPSS 20.0을 활용하여 신뢰도분석, 요인분석, 상관관계분석, 회귀분석을 하였고 그 결과는 아래와 같다. 첫째, 개인적 규범은 창업의지에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 창업준비수준은 창업의지에 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 개인적 규범과 창업의지와의 관계에서 창업교육은 조절효과가 있었다. 넷째, 창업준비수준과 창업의지와의 관계에서 창업교육은 조절효과가 있었다. 그러나 본 연구는 표집지역을 k지역으로 한정하였기에 연구결과를 전국으로 일반화하는데는 한계가 있으며 나아가 개인적 규범과 창업준비수준 뿐만이 아닌 예비창업자의 창업의지 영향요인에 대한 지속적 연구가 계속되어야 할 것을 제안한다.
