This paper describes an automated detection algorithm of ST-T episodes using global curvature which can connect the isoelectric level in ECG and can eliminate not only the slope of ST segment, but also difference of the baseline and global curve. This above method of baseline correction is very faster than the classical baseline correction methods. The optimal values of parameters for baseline correction were found as the value having the highest detection rate of ST episode. The features as input of backpropagation Neural Network were extracted from the whole ST segment. The European ST-T database was used as training and test data. Finally, ST elevation, ST depression and normal ST were classified. The average ST episode sensitivity and predictivity were 85.42%, 80.29%, respectively. This result shows the high speed and reliability in ST episode detection. In conclusion, the proposed method showed the possibility in various applications for the Holter system.
Objectives : Evidence regarding the association between untreated depression in adolescence and suicidal risk in male young adults is scarce. We aimed to assess the effect of untreated illness during adolescence on the suicidal risk and attempt after that first episode. Methods : As part of a cross-sectional study, between May 2017 and April 2018, a total of 260 patients with currently unipolar or bipolar depression were included in the final analysis. Multiple linear and logistic regression analysis were performed to evaluate the association between untreated mood disorder in adolescence and its effect on the suicidal risk and attempt. Results : In total 260 patients, 189 were classified as untreated group. The proportion of suicide attempts, total depression score, suicidal risk and number of suicide attempts were significantly higher in the untreated group. The most predictive factors of suicide attempts were history of untreated depression [Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR)=4.19, 95% Confidence Interval (CI)=2.25-7.81, p<0.001] and diagnosis of bipolar depression (AOR=2.60, 95% CI=1.52-4.46, p<0.001). Conclusions : Although the untreated depression suggests higher rates of suicidality, a significant proportion (86.7%) of adolescent depression in this study did not receive psychiatric treatment. Future research should be needed to find better ways to decrease barriers in using mental health treatment and its contribution to reduction and prevention of adverse outcome.

This study was designed to examine the influence of academic stress, anxiety, interpersonal dependency, and hopelessness on female high school students and their level of depression. The study subjects were 684 students attending an all-female high school in C city. Data were collected by self-administered questionnaires between November 1st, 2016 and December 31st, 2016. The data were analyzed using the SPSSWIN(ver. 21.0) program. The mean values of the level of depression were analyzed by the t-test and ANOVA. The correlation coefficientswereobtained by Pearson correlation analysis and acovariance structure analysis was performed on the factors affecting the level of depression. It was found that the level of depression among all of the subjects was significantly higher within the group with a higher level of academic stress, anxiety, interpersonal dependency, and hopelessness. Thus, the level of depression was positively correlated with the levels of academic stress, anxiety, interpersonal dependency, and hopelessness. The factor that had the most influence on depression was the anxiety factor, followed by interpersonal dependency and academic stress. This result suggests that the level of depression in female high school students has a causal relationship with academic stress, anxiety, interpersonal behavioral characteristics, and hopelessness. Therefore, the most effective strategy to reduce the level of depression among female high school students would appear to be efforts to decrease their academic stress, anxiety, and interpersonal dependency.
This study investigates the influences of narcissism and emotional self-disclosure on depression and happiness levels of high school students. The participants comprised of 334 high school 1st-graders. The results indicated that: (1) Girls showed higher levels of both narcissism and emotional self-disclosure than boys, but there was no gender difference evident in the levels of depression and happiness. (2) The more the students felt depressed, the less they experienced happiness. Additionally, the more the students disclosed emotionally about themselves, the less they experienced depression. (3) High levels of narcissism and low levels of emotional self-disclosure increased depression, but the interactional effect between narcissism and emotional self-disclosure on depression was not statistically significant for either gender. Moreover, low levels of narcissism and high levels of emotional self-disclosure tended to see increased levels of happiness for both genders, however the interactional effect between narcissism and emotional self-disclosure on happiness was statistically significant only for boys. That is, for boys, the negative effects of narcissism on happiness can be reduced if the level of emotional self-disclosure is high.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of a music-based group reminiscence program on interpersonal relationships, self-esteem and depression in elderly people who are hospitalized. Methods: A quasi-experimental research was implemented, and a nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design was used. The participants were 52 elders who met the selection criteria and were assigned to the experimental group (26) and the control group (26). Both groups took the pre and posttest at the same time, and both groups received regular hospital care with the experimental group participating in the program for 12 sessions over six weeks. The instruments used in the study were, for interpersonal relationships, the Interpersonal Change Scale by Schlein and Guerney (1971), for self-esteem, the Self-Esteem Scale by Rosenberg (1965) and for depression, the Depression Inventory by Zung (1965). The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS 15.0 program. Results: Compared to the control group, the experimental group had significantly better interpersonal relationships and significantly higher self-esteem and less depression. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that a music-based group reminiscence program is effective in improving the interpersonal relationships, self-esteem and depression of hospitalized elders.
Despite the fact that pharmacotherapy depressive disorders have proven efficacy, a substantial number of patients are resistant to conventional management. As neuroscientific research about pathophysiology of depression have accumulated, repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) have emerged as an important mechanism-based treatment modality. This overview provides a review of therapeutic application of rTMS and tDCS in patients with depression. The clinical and basic studies of rTMS and tDCS in depression were reviewed and integrated using a literature review and interview with experts. rTMS is a noninvasive procedure of a localized pulsed magnetic field to the surface of the head to cause a depolarization of neurons in the brain cortex. tDCS has a mechanism of modulating cortical excitability in a polarity-specific manner without eliciting action potentials. rTMS and tDCS seem promising for treating depression. Although therapeutic parameters and further technical improvement remain to be systematically investigated, rTMS and tDCS would be a safe and effective intervention to treat depression.
Objctives: This study purposed to examine the intention to participate in the preventive program of depression of Internet user and to offer the baseline data for development of mental health promotion program. Methods: The internet survey was performed using a self-reported questionnaire on intention to participate in the preventive program of depression, depressive symptom(with Zung's SDS) and so forth from 1,000 internet user (aged $13{\sim}49$ years) via two web sites at Feb($1st{\sim}10th$), 2006. We analyzed the intention to participate in preventive program of depression and the factors related with that intention by depressive level. Results: In the normal group, the intention to participate in a preventive program of depression was influenced significantly by counselling experience(s) on depression(p<.001), and perceived control(p<.001) over the barriers to participation in the preventive program of depression, and marginally by gender. In the depressive group, the smoking habit revealed marginal effect(p=.051) and perceived control over the barriers to participation in the preventive program of depression influenced on that intention significantly(p<.001). Conclusion: Among internet users, especially the solutions of barriers to participate in the preventive program of depression is more important at the intervention program for prevention of depression. In the normal group, we need to consider the use of messages tailored by counselling experience(s) on depression. Some intervention program dealing with two subjects, smoking cessation and prevention of depression concurrently, will be appropriate for the depressive group.
Cardiogenic syncope occurs due to arrhythmia (bradycardia and tachycardia) or decreased cardiac output, and if proper treatment is not provided, it can lead to acute sudden death. A detailed medical history and physical examinations are required to determine the cause of syncope, and clinical approaches, including 12-lead ECG, are important. The 12-lead ECG does not have a chest lead in the posterior wall of the left ventricle; therefore, ECG of the isolated posterior wall myocardial infarction caused by left circumflex artery occlusion is not observed with ST elevation. Therefore, the significantly higher appearance of ST depression and R waves than S waves from V1 to V3 of the chest lead must be interpreted meaningfully. Isolated posterior wall myocardial infarction is small in the area of myocardial necrosis, and tension is increased in the necrotic area due to the contraction of the normal myocardial muscle, which can cause ventricular wall rupture. Therefore, it is necessary to additionally check Beck's triad, such as jugular venous distension and decreased heart sound, in patients with low blood pressure with an isolated posterior wall myocardial infarction on 12-lead ECG in patients with syncope.
