  • The demand of Small Self-generating System (SSS) including Small Cogeneration System (SCS) is constantly increasing with the need of electricity and/or thermal in office, hospital, hotel, and small factory, etc. It is especially recommended to operate SCS in the heat-following mode to maximize the efficiency of generator. In case of the heat-following mode SCS has got to be connected to distribution system so as to send surplus power to the utility or receive the short power from utility. But the interconnection of SSS with distribution system causes a few problems such as the bad power quality, and low security. If SSS is not promptly disconnected after faults occur (Islanding of SSS), it can not only damage equipment of utility and adjacent customers but also endanger life of human due to overvoltage or overcurrent. In this paper it has been deeply discussed if interconnection of engine self-generator/control system satisfies the protective requirement for SSS or not. 500 kW engine generator running in the Jodo island has been used to perform the analysis of interconnection.

  • We are reporting an unusual case of dural arteriovenous fistula (AVF) of the superior sagittal sinus (SSS) after tamoxifen treatment for breast cancer. A 30-year-old female arrived at the emergency room with a sudden headache and left sided weakness and sensory loss. In her past medical history, she was diagnosed with breast cancer 1 year prior, and subsequently underwent a breast conserving mastectomy with whole breast radiation and adjuvant chemotherapy with tamoxifen. At the time of admission, computed tomography showed a small acute intracerebral hemorrhage at the right parietal cortex, and magnetic resonance imaging showed that a dural AVF at the SSS with a prominent and tortuous venous enhancement along the centrum semiovale was present. Cerebral angiography showed that the dural AVF at the mid-portion of the SSS with meningeal arterial feeding vessels entering the wall of the SSS, then draining through the dilated cortical veins. Our patient had no signs of active malignancy or any abnormalities in her coagulation profile, so it can be concluded that the tamoxifen was the likely cause of the SSS thrombosis and dural AVF. The dural AVF was treated by an endovascular coil embolization for the arterialized segment of the SSS. The patient dramatically recovered favorably from left side motor and sensory deficit. The best clinical approach is to screen potential patients of tamoxifen hormonal therapy and educate them on the sign and symptoms of life threatening thromboembolic events while taking tamoxifen.

  • While silent sinus syndrome (SSS) is familiar to otolaryngologists and ophthalmologists, it is a rare clinical entity in dentistry and is likely to be underdiagnosed due to dentists' lack of awareness of this condition. SSS presents a diagnostic challenge to dentists, as patients typically have no history of trauma or sinusitis. The characteristic feature of SSS is a gradual retreat of the maxillary sinus walls, resulting in enophthalmos and hypoglobus. Multidetector (multislice) computed tomography is the imaging modality of choice for SSS and other paranasal sinus diseases. Cone-beam computed tomography promises to be an alternative low-dose imaging modality. This report describes 3 cases of SSS in adults, who had no identified clinical symptoms except diminutive and opacified maxillary sinuses, as well as the inward bowing of the sinus walls as noted on cone-beam computed tomographic imaging.

  • Recording data in hundreds of narrow contiguous spectral intervals, hyperspectral images have provided the opportunity to detect small differences in material composition. But a limitation of a hyperspectral image is the signal to noise ratio (SNR) lower than that of a multispectral image. This paper presents the efficiency of Spectral Similarity Scale (SSS) in change detection of hyperspectral image and the experiment was performed with Hyperion data. SSS is an algorithm that objectively quantifies differences between reflectance spectra in both magnitude and direction dimensions. The thresholds for detecting the change area were determined through Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm. The experimental result shows that the SSS algorithm and EM algorithm are efficient enough to be applied to the unsupervised change detection of hyperspectral images.

  • The aim of this study is to develop sintered stainless steels (SSS) with good mechanical strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance by nitrogen ion implantation on the Culated SSS surface. Stainless steel compacts containg Cu (2-10 wt%) were prepared by electroless Cu-pating method which results in the increased3 homogenization in alloying powder. Nitrogen ion implantation was carried out by using N2 gas as the ion source. Nitrogen ions were embedded by an acceleratol of 130keV with doese $3.0\times10^{17}\;ions/\textrm{cm}^2$ on the SSS at $25^{\circ}C$ in$2\times10^{-6}$ torr vacuum. The nitrogen ion implanted SSS obtained from anodic ploarization curves revealed higher corrosion potential than that of nitrogen ion unimplante one. And nitrogen ion implanted 316LSSS had good resistance to pitting corrosion due to the synergistic effect of Mo and N, and the inhibition of $NH_4\;^+$<\TEX>, against $CI^-$<\TEX>.

  • This study investigated how 5th grade students found and understood triangle congruence conditions (SSS, SAS, ASA). In particular, this study focused on children's processes of discovering triangle congruence conditions and the obstacles which they encountered in the process of making sense of these conditions. Our data indicates that inquiring the cases in which less than three factors of triangle are given is helpful for children to guess triangle congruence conditions and understand the minimal characteristic of these conditions. And the degree of difficulty of discovering each congruence condition is different. Children discovered SAS condition and ASA condition easily, but it was hard for them to discover and understand that SSS was also a triangle congruence condition because they connected the length of a given side with the use of a scaled ruler not a compass.

  • A study was conducted in the Hong Kong with the aim of deriving an algorithm for the retrieval of suspended sediment (SS) and sea surface salinity (SSS) concentrations from Aqua/MODIS level 1B reflectance data with 250m and 500m spatial resolutions. 'In-situ' measurements of SS and SSS were also compared with coincident MODIS spectral reflectance measurements over the ocean surface. This is the first study of SSS modeling in Southeast Asia using earth observation satellite images. Three analysis techniques such as multiple regression, linear regression, and principal component analysis (PCA) were performed on the MODIS data and the 'in-situ' measurement datasets of the SS and SSS. Correlation coefficients by each analysis method shows that the best correlation results are multiple regression from the 500m spatial resolution MODIS images, $R^2$= 0.82 for SS and $R^2$ = 0.81 for SSS. The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) between satellite and 'in-situ' data are 0.92mg/L for SS and 1.63psu for SSS, respectively. These suggest that 500m spatial resolution MODIS data are suitable for water quality modeling in the study area. Furthermore, the application of these models to MODIS images of the Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta (PRO) Region are able to accurately reproduce the spatial distribution map of the high turbidity with realistic SS concentrations.
