The previous study developed the Filter-Disinfection-Adsorption (FDA) system to provide clean irrigation water for greenhouse cultivation as well as convenience water to farmers. In this study, the field examination was undertaken to assess performance of the FDA system. The field application was made in the suburb of Daegu, one of the large city in Korea. The study area located near by down-stream of Gum-Ho river is suffering low irrigation water quality problems with no water supply service facilities. Four water quality parameters including Suspended Solid (SS), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), coliform, and turbidity were selected to test the purification performance of FDA system. Also in order to improve the system, this study investigated the defects of using the FDA system through field monitoring. As results, it was found that this system can be used to supply good quality of irrigation water for greenhouse cultivation and also provide convenience water to farmers in the field areas of no water supply services.
This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between theoretical parameters affecting the coagulation process and the real coagulation phenomenon applied to the dye wastewater. Emphasis was placed on the effective removal of the suspend particulates. Parameters studied in this study are pH, coagulant concentration and surface potential. Optimal dosages of coagulants by the measurement of the zeta potential at lower then $25^{\circ}C$ are 5\times$10^P-3}$ M of $FeCl_3 and 1.4\times10^{-6}M of Fe_2(SO_4)_3$. The results were well agreeded with the separate Jar-test results. Emphasis was also placed on the relationship between water quality and the content of SS. It was found that the COD and DOC were reduced to 65% and 85%, respectively. The turbidity at the above condition was reduced from 300 NTU to 0~1 NTU. Efforts were made to clarify the behavior of the suspend solid as affecting the water quality. 12,000~13,000 particles/10mL in $1~50\mu$m size range particulates in the raw wastewater were reduced to 300 particle/10mL in the same range after treatment. This research has proposed the methodology to find out the optimal condition of coagulation for small scale wastewater treatment plant or chemical coagulation process.
As water resources are limited and legal regulations are strengthened, there is a growing need to reuse residuals in WTP(Water Treatment Plant). In this study, membrane filtration system was constructed and its operation method was studied for water quality stabilization and reuse of WTP residuals. The operation parameters were stable for 1 year and 6 months. Membrane fouling was identified as particulate pollution (activated carbon) and inorganic pollution (manganese). The membrane system was operated steadily with raw water of high concentration SS(Suspended solid) containing activated carbon because membrane fouling was reduced by the effect of End-Free type. In the case of inorganic contamination, dissolved manganese eluted by chemicals and acted as a membrane fouling source, and the operating conditions for minimizing membrane fouling. were confirmed by newly developing application methods and types of cleaning chemicals. Based on the results, design parameters for reducing manganese membrane fouling were derived.
Distribution of fecal pollution indicator bacteria and environmental parameter were investigated of urban artificial lakes. An average concentration of temperature, pH, SS, DO, $COD_{Mn}$, T-P, T-N, Turbidity, Chl-a were $21.5^{\circ}C$, 8.07, 116.70 mg/l, 8.66 mg/l, 2.24 mg/1, 0.52 mg/l, 1.71mg/l, 80.54 NTU, and 52.12 mg/l respectively. From the results of bivariate correlation analysis, fecal contamination indicator bacteria were found to be mutually correlated. And turbidity and suspended solid were correlated. From the results of principal component analysis, four factors were extracted. And four factors of variance explained up to 81.5 percentage. Factor 1 was pollution pattern by fecal contamination, factor 2 was physical pollution pattern by pollution source, factor 3 was natural pollution by precipitation, and factor 4 was artificial pollution pattern by organism.
This study reviews the applicability of the GWLF (Generalized Watershed Loading Function) model, which is based on a loading function that requires only a relatively small amount of data, in a small agricultural watershed. The hydrological data was collected from 1996 to 2004 for a study area based on the HP#6 upper stream reservoir small watershed area. This data was then used to calibrate and verify the model. A simulation based on the model yielded $R^2$ values of $0.47\sim0.89$. This is considered to have high applicability when compared to the simulation and the observed results, which yielded relatively high values of $R^2$ for SS (Suspended Solid), TN (Total Nitrogen), and TP (Total Phosphorus) of 0.58, 0.47 and 0.62, respectively. This study provides a useful approach fur researchers selecting appropriate models to use the insufficient measuring data for rural watersheds.
This study was performed to analyze the variation characteristics of writer qulity, correlation analysis of water quality data at each site and among the items of water Quality data. Water quality for analysis was monthly values of water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, suspended solid, 7-N and T-P checked in Daecheong Lake from January to December, 1995. It was analyzed variation of monthly water qulity was well from February to April, water temperature and COD seemed to have high correlationships at all sites. Regression equation is COD = 0.07 Water temperature +1.23 ($R^2$: 0.7616) . Results of the correlation analysis of water quality data showed that DO had high correlationships between site 1 and site 2, BOD did site 1 and 3, COD did site 1 and 2, 55 did site 5 and 6, 7-N did 2 and 3, 7-P did site 4 and 6. Regression equations for estimate of water quality data are as follows. $DO_1$=4.46+0.59 DO, ($R^2$=0.8868), $BOD_1$ = 0, 52+0.63 BOD3 ($R^2$ = 0.6390) $COD_2$ = 0.44+0.71 $COD_1$ ($R^2$ = 0.9183), SS6 = 0.89+0.7055.($R^2$ = 0.9155) $TN_3$ = 0.151 +0.886 $TN_2$ ($R^2$ = 0.9415), $TP_4$ = 0.004+5.758 $TP_6$ ($R^2$ = 0.9669)
Water quality has been considered to be one of sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOP) for hazard analysis critical control points (HACCP) application in aquaculture farms. This study was conducted to evaluate a hazard caused by water used in aquaculture farm of rainbow trout. The water quality was analyzed to investigate both physiochemical and bacteriological level in water samples collected from aquaculture farm of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. No significant difference were observed on water temperature and pH from season to season. However, the levels of dissolved oxygen were decreased as the outside temperature was increased, even if the levels were adequate for aquaculture. Also, other physiochemical analysis including biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and suspended solid (SS) revealed that the waters for aquaculture analyzed in this study was suitable for rainbow trout aquaculture. The bacterial analyses were also revealed that the waters for aquaculture were met to both coliform group (<18 MPN/100mL) and viable cell count (<100 CFU/mL). However, some of waste waters from aquaculture farms showed higher levels of BOD and COD than those of waste water standard (<2 ppm), suggesting that regular cleaning of fish tank and precipitation tank is needed.
Water Pollution of Gwangju Stream was examined for four months from 22 March 1981 to 7 June, 1981. For checking the water pollution, 6 sampling positions were selected 5 from main stream. We assumed that the water pollution of Gwangju stream was due to the organic materials, which came from the domestic sewage. The apparatus for this test were pH meter (Orion model 301), Dissolved Oxygen & Temperature meter(Delta model 1010). The results we obtained are as follows: 1. The average range for mid-stream(sp. 3, 4) was 3. 10~2.73ppm of Dissolved Oxygen(DO), 80.23~102.95ppm of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), 195. 10~165.90ppm of Suspended Solid (SS), 6.6~6.7 of pH. 2. The plankton identification in this survey period showed Cyanophyceae is 4 genera 5 species, Bacillariophycea 11 genera 14 species, Chlorophyceae 8 genera 15 species and Zooplankton 6 genera 7 species: total 29 genera 41 species. 3. To appear dominant plankton in polluted water, there were Paramecium, Euglena and Oscillatoria. 4. The results of biological water analysis were as follows: st. 1 was B-mesosaprobic to oligosaprobic, but st. 4 and st. 5 at stream in the midtown area seemed to be polysaprobic.
This paper considers the effect of rainfall on non-point source (NPS) pollutant loads. The impact of runoff on the occurrence of NPS pollutants was found to be influenced by rainfall amount, rainfall intensity, and the number of antecedent dry days (ADD), both independently and in combination. The close correlation ($R^2$ = 0.9920) between rainfall and runoff amounts was demonstrated at the study site (a flower farm) over the period between January 2011 and December 2013. The relationships among pollutant levels, runoff, and rainfall was not satisfactory results except for the Biochemical Oxygen Demand ($BOD_5$). The correlation coefficients between $BOD_5$, and both runoff and rainfall, were greater than 0.92. However, the relationships of other pollutants, such as Suspended Solid (SS), Chemical Oxygen Demand ($COD_{Mn}$), Total Nitrogen (TN), and Total Phosphorus (TP), with runoff and rainfall had correlation coefficients of less than 0.70. The roles of rainfall was different from rainfall categories on the occurrence of runoff. Instantaneous rainfall intensity was a principle factor on the occurrence of runoff following light rainfall events (total ${\leq}30mm$). For rainfall of intermediate intensity (total precipitation 31-50 mm), the combined effect of both average rainfall intensity and ADD was found to influence runoff generation. We conclude that the control of NPS pollutants with the reflection of the climate change that makes the remarkable effect of amounts and forms on the rainfall and runoff.
