  • This paper proposes a method for improving the isolation characteristic of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antennas using a split ring resonator (SRR) array structure between the two radiating elements. The fabricated antenna satisfies the 10 dB return loss requirement in the Mobile-WiMAX frequency band from 3.4 GHz to 3.6 GHz. The isolation between the two radiating elements is improved by approximately 20 dB at the center frequency by inserting a SRR array structure. The measured peak gains of the two elements are 2.3 dBi and 2.4 dBi, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a small, flexible dipole antenna for wireless power transmission of smart devices in a Wi-Fi environment. The proposed antenna is a mini-dipolar antenna structure with a split ring resonator in the center and is a small dipole antenna with a size of 32mm. The split ring resonator dipole antenna showed a reduction of about 20% compared to the same size of the dipole antenna.

  • A CRLH-TL based compact metamaterial antenna on a magneto-dielectric material is proposed. The proposed antenna is composed of two patches and vias, which is loaded by a magneto-dielectric material constructed by SRRs. The characteristic of SRRs is studied, and the size reduction of the antenna by using the magneto-dielectric material is confirmed. The simulated resonant frequency of the antenna has showed a decrease of 7.13 % at - 1st-order resonant mode, and 23.9 % at zeroth-order resonant mode. A zeroth-order resonant antenna is fabricated and measured, which has a resonant frequency of 1.888 GHz, a bandwidth of 0.48 %, a gain of 0.534 dBi, and an efficiency of 51.7 %.

  • In general, sand compaction pile(SCP) method and gravel compaction pile(GCP) method have been mainly used to reinforce soft soils such as soft clay or loose sandy ground. But the sand compaction pile method has problems such as lack of sand supply and destroying the nature while collecting sand, the gravel compaction pile method has a problem such as decreased permeability of the drainage material due to clogging. Recently, the study to replace sand with bottom ash which has similar engineering properties with sand is in active. As a fundamental research on bottom ash mixture compaction pile utilizing bottom ash, its behavioral characteristics depending on granular materials and replacement ratio has been simulated numerically. In particular, Settlement Reduction Ratio(SRR) according to the distance from the center of pile was calculated. The main findings were as follows. Change values of Mixture Compaction Pile's SRR according to granular materials showed similar patterns and stiffness of the composite soil is increased depending on the replacement ratio so SRR showed decreased patterns. Especially, when the replacement ratio is in 20~40%, it increase significantly. When the replacement ratio is over 40%, it increase slowly. When considering the economics, 30~40% replacement ratio is appropriate.

  • The Korea Maritime Police Agency(KMPA) is the national maritime Search and Rescuee (SAR) authority with the responsibility to promote an efficient organization of SAR services and to coordinate the conduct of SAR operations within the Korean Search and Rescue Region(SRR). The maritime SAR operations shall provide an adequate and effective search and rescue services to minimize the loss by rendering aid to persons in distress and property in the marine environment. The essence of a successful search and rescue operation is the speed with which it is planned and carried out because survivors who need assistance and whose chances of survival diminish rapidly with time. This paper aims to propose an optimal allocation model of maritime SAR fleet in view of minimizing the search and rescue time. When maritime accidents occur, rescue units have to reach to the distress scene within the specified time. For this, SAR units must be redeployed to an advanced base so that Rescue Units(RU) can reach to the scene of distress in the shortest possible time. The Korean maritime SRR is divided into 180 sub-areas in consideration of an operational and technical ability of SAR units. The suggested model is verified through an empirical application to the Korean maritime SRR. And also the Rescue Vessels(RV) required is estimated for each Rescue Co-ordination Center(RCC).

  • The paper describes SR3 (Synchronous Round Robin with Reservations), a collision-free medium access control protocol for all-optical slotted packet networks based on WDM multi-channel ring topologies where nodes are equipped with one fixed-wavelength receiver and one wavelength-tunable transmitter SR3 is derived from the SRR and MMR protocols previously proposed by the same authors for the same class of all-optical networks. SRR and MMR already achieve an efficient exploitation of the available bandwidth, while guaranteeing a throughput-fair access to each node. SR3, In addition, allows nodes to reserve slots. thereby achieving a stronger control on access delays; it is thus well suited to meet tight delay requirements, as it is the case for multimedia applications. Simulation results show that SR3 provides very good performance to guaranteed qualify traffic, but also brings signigicant performance improvements for best-effort traffic. Energy effciency is an important issue for optical network since they must rely on their batteries. We present a novel MAC protocol that achieves a good energy efficiency of optical interface of the network and provides support for diverse traffic types and QoS. The scheduler of the base station is responsible to provide the required QoS to connections on the optical link and to minimise the amount of energy spend by the High speed Network. The main principles of the MaC protocol are to avoid unsuccessful actions, minimise the number of transitions , and synchronise the mobile and the base-station. We will show that considerable amounts of energy can be saved using these principles.

  • In this paper, a 23 GHz push-push oscillator was designed and fabricated for 23 GHz point-to-point communication using split ring resonator. The split ring resonator was equivalent circuit and numerical method of MPIE(Mixed Potential Integral Equation). The analysis of split ring resonator which coupled between microstrip lines was carried out with transmission-mode using this results. The fabricated oscillator showed the output power of 4 dBm, the 1'st harmonic suppression of -20 dBc, the 3rd harmonic suppression of -34 dBc, a SSB phase noise of -109 dBc / Hz at 1MHz offset frequency from the carrier was achieved and 1.4 percents efficiency at 23 GHz. The experimental outputs were in good results with the theoretical and simulated results.

  • This paper conducts the research on the variation in the characteristics of the resonance and impedance of the metallic parallel plates due to the replacement of the normal dielectric substrate by the metamaterial. The ENG(${\epsilon}<0$), MNG(${\mu}<0}$) and DNG(${\epsilon},{\mu}<0$) types of metamaterial as well as the DPS(Double Positive) material are taken into consideration a full-wave modal analysis method known for accurate computation, as the SRR-kind of Lorentz model for permittivity and metal wire-periodic array-kind of Drude model for permeability, and the behaviors of parallel plates' resonance mode and impedance are observed. Based upon the observation, the design guidelines for the substrate can be addressed regrading how to suppress the parallel plates' spurious resonance modes that degrade the quality of the electronic equipment.

  • Directed energy weapon enables to radiate the concentrated energy so as to result in distraction and overload of the target electronics. Analysis on effectiveness of weapon system can be important consideration in order to determine performance and design weapon system. In this paper, air defense weapon system, which is one of directed energy weapon system is studied. In order to analyze the effectiveness, the reflector antenna with high power circularly polarized horn antenna is designed, and power density in axial effective area is simulated and calculated using Friis formula. Through the study, the validity of antenna system is verified, and the effectiveness of directed energy weapon system on the target is evaluated.
