Performance Comparison of PostgreSQL and MongoDB using YCSB (YCSB를 사용한 PostgreSQL과 MongoDB 성능 비교 분석)

  • In the era of Big Data, NoSQL databases provide solutions for problems, circumventing the limitations of traditional relational databases by using new architectures and data model. Contrary to relational database products, the range of the features architectures, and limitations of NoSQL databases is very broad. Thus, choosing the right database products requires more considerations and difficulties. The advent of NoSQL does not only promote the abundance of NoSQL products, but also stimulates the relational database realm to expand their features beyond the relational model. In order to understand NoSQL trends more accurately, here we discuss and compare NoSQL databases with relational databases. We also present the newest features associated with NoSQL in one of the most advanced open-source relational databases, PostgreSQL. To discuss future directions for PostgreSQL we analyzed the performance of NoSQL and PostgreSQL by conducting experiments using the NoSQL benchmark tool (YCSB).

  • Due to its diverse advantages, XML has secured its position as a standard for data representation and exchange in the Internet. As a consequence, there has been much research on efficient storing and query processing of in data. Storing XML data in a relational database system warrants much benefit in data management and query processing; the system provides a strong query processing and data management function and can be applicable to XML data, its function being extended. In this paper, we design and implement a query translator that translates XQuery, a representative XML query language, into SQL:2003 query. SQL:2003, the latest SQL standard used as a substitute for SQL:1999, defines SQL/XML that supports XML. The main contribution of this paper is as follows: First, we look into the supporting features of XML, defined in the SQL:2003 standard, and propose a user-defined function for shortcoming sections. Second, we propose a way to translate XQuery into SQL that observes the latest SQL standard. Third, we describe in detail the design and the implementation of the translator to show its feasibility as a translator.

  • 관계 데이터베이스 시스팀의 데이타베이스 언어인 SQL에 대한 표준화 작업에 대하여 살펴본다. 최초의 국제 표준안인 ISO 9075-1987 SQL에서 현재 표준안으로 확정을 추진중인 ISO/IEC 9075-199x로의 발전 및 미래의 데이터베이스 언어 SQL을 위해 표준화 작업중인 SQL3까지의 발전 과정에 대하여 살펴본다. SQL2를 중심으로 서술하며, SQL2는 SQL1보다 어떤 기능이 보강되었으며, SQL3는 SQL2에 무슨 기능을 추가하고자 하는지 알아본다.

  • As the importance of information audit is getting bigger, the public corporations invest many expenses at information system audit to build a high quality system. For this purpose, there are much research to proceed an audit effectively. In database audit works, it could audit utilizing a variety of monitoring tools. However, when auditing SQLs which might be affected to database performance, there are several limits related to SQL audit functionality. For this reason, most existing monitoring tools process based on meta information, it is difficult to proceed SQL audit works if there is no meta data or inaccuracy. Also, it can't detect problems by analysis of SQL's syntax structure. In this paper, we design and implement the SQL Inspector using ANTLR which is applied by syntax analysis technique. The overall conclusion is that the implemented SQL Inspector can work effectively much more than eye-checked way. Finally, The SQL inspector which we proposed can apply much more audit rules by compared with other monitoring tools. We expect the higher stability of information system to apply SQL Inspector from development phase to the operation phase.

  • This paper proposes a multimedia retrival query lanfuage SQL/MR(SQL/Mulitmedia Reteival) to presrnt query results including multimeadia data temporal-spatially for retrival-oriented multimedia applications.Es-pecially, we describe the syntax of SQL/MR, query examples, and algorithms to process the temporai-spatial layout tags. SQL/MR extends the SELECT clause of SQL to eliminate time-comsuming authoring efforts for every query retrieval. SQL/MR can the utilized in relational DBMSs, which store multimedia data separately in minomedia type fields.

  • This paper researched to improve the educational achievements in Database SQL education. In practice, it is not possible to taste all the cases required at database field within the given class times. Therefore we analyzed out the key issues that students must learn for database education, and provided SQL patterns matching to the issues. To validate the effectiveness of this approach, we programmed practical requirements with those SQL patterns under a hypothetical database.

  • Information system audit is the requirement to configure the information system successfully. However, there is a problem with reduction of efficiency in the audit work when the system capacity is growing up. In the subsidiary field of information system audit, there is the same problem. In this paper, we will focus on the database audit, and implement an SQL audit tool in order to improve the performance of a database. During the designing phase of the SQL audit tool which aim to improve the performance of a database, we have analyzed the requirements of SQL audit work. Based on the aforementioned them, the process of the SQL audit tool has been designed with SQL audit features in accordance with information audit process. During the implementation phase, we have implemented 3 main function modules according to the output of the design phase. The main modules we implemented are the audit job definition module, audit job executing module and result reporting module. With the implemented tool, it applied to an Electric Power Corporation project in China and compared with other tools that are able to use SQL audit. In this paper, the implemented SQL audit tool is able to perform the general SQL audit work and to reduce the cost of the audit work for database performance and to raise the accuracy of result and to apply the extended inspection rule which need to use SQL parsing.

An SQL Function for the Construction of Recursively Structured XML values from the Relational Data (관계 데이터로부터 재귀적 구조의 XML 값을 생성하는 SQL 함수)

  • SQL:2003 standard provides SQL/XML publishing functions to publish the result of an SQL query as XML values but it does not provide any SQL/XML publishing function that can publish the result of a recursive query as recursively structured XML values. Therefore, for the relational tuples which are connected directly or indirectly according to given conditions, to publish both the contents of them and the relationship among them as XML values with the use of appropriate SQL/XML publishing functions, we have to write a nested SQL query. Writing that query, however, is not easy provided that the depth of the connections is deep even if we know the depth of them and is not possible once the depth of the connections is not known in advance. In order to resolve that problem, we propose a new SQL function XMLNEST that can publish the result of a recursive query as recursively structured XML values.

Extending SQL CLI for Large Object Caching (LOB 캐쉬를 위한 SQL CLI의 확장)

  • The SQL CLl (Call Level Interface) is a database application programming interface (API) that fits the client-server environment, and its de facto standards such as ODBC and JDBC are widely employed in various applications. The current SQL CLl standards, however, do not specify enough features for efficient retrieval of large objects (LOBs) that constitute the multimedia data. In this paper, we propose the LOB caching through the SQL CLl and describe the extension of the SQL eLl to achieve such a goal. We implement our proposal by extending the SQL CLl library for BADA - II DBMS developed at ETRI, and evaluate the performance of LOB retrieval through the cache compared to that of LOB retrieval conducted solely with the functions specified in the current SQL CLl standards.

  • SQL Injection attacks are the most widely used and also they are considered one of the oldest traditional hacking techniques. SQL Injection attacks are getting quite complicated and they perform a high portion among web hacking. The big data environments in the future will be widely used resulting in many devices and sensors will be connected to the internet and the amount of data that flows among devices will be highly increased. The scale of damage caused by SQL Injection attacks would be even greater in the future. Besides, creating security solutions against SQL Injection attacks are high costs and time-consuming. In order to prevent SQL Injection attacks, we have to operate quickly and accurately according to this data analysis techniques. We utilized data analytics and machine learning techniques to defend against SQL Injection attacks and analyzed the execution plan of the SQL command input if there are abnormal patterns through checking the web log files. Herein, we propose a way to distinguish between normal and abnormal SQL commands. We have analyzed the value entered by the user in real time using the automated SQL Injection attacks tools. We have proved that it is possible to ensure an effective defense through analyzing the execution plan of the SQL command.
