In the case of fluid storage structure, hydrostatic pressure acts on the structure due to fluid surge during an earthquake. At this time, hydrodynamic pressure of the fluid charge not only by the strength of the earthquake but also by the sloshing height of the fluid. Factors affecting the change of load include the size, width and height of the fluid storage structure and height of fluid, time-history shape, etc. This paper wanted to identify the relationship between the earthquake shape and fluid free surface shape. The sloshing height measured the height of the fluid by applying earthquake to a tank whose width 500mm and comparison of the experiment and analysis. In addition, the shape of the fluid free surface was measured while varying the shape of earthquake and effective of the shape of earthquake of the fluid was analyzed.
It is important to develop more efficient and productive casting processes for an automated high precision molten-metal casting system. Detailed analysis of molten-metal flow in the casting process by the numerical approach will help to optimize the control of a ladle. In this study, the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method was applied to analyze casting flow characteristics with different tilting angular speed and initial molten-metal level. The smoothed particle hydrodynamics technique has advantages to easily handle non-linear free surface behavior with the absence of a computational mesh. We found that tilting angular speed has relatively greater effect on the casting flowrate and that the effect of the initial molten-metal level is only minor. Further extensive study will be necessary to find an optimal condition for high efficient casting system.

In this study, we newly proposed 3-D nonlinear wave driver utilizing the Navier-Stokes Eq. the numerical integration of which is carried out using SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics), an internal wave generation with the source function of Gaussian distribution and an energy absorbing layer. For the verification of new 3-D nonlinear wave driver, we numerically simulate the sloshing problem within a parabolic water basin triggered by a Gaussian hump and uniformly inclined water surface by Thacker (1981). It turns out that the qualitative behavior of sloshing caused by relaxing the external force which makes a free surface convex or uniformly inclined is successfully simulated even though phase error is visible and an inundation height shrinks as numerical simulation more proceeds. For the more severe test, we also simulate the nonlinear shoaling and refraction over uniform beach of wedge shape. It is shown that numerically simulated waves are less refracted than the linear counterpart by Hamiltonian ray theory due to nonlinearity, energy dissipation at the bottom and side walls, energy loss induced by breaking, and the hydraulic jump occurring when breaking waves encounter a down-rush by the preceding wave.

To develop more robust oil boom which is vulnerable to various failure mode under severe weather condition, highly accurate wave model is developed using Spatially filtered Navier-Stokes Eq., LDS (Lagrangian Dynamic Smagorinsky model) for residual stresses, SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics). To clarify the hydraulic characteristics of floating type oil boom, we numerically simulate the behavior of oil spill around oil boom under very energetic progressive waves. At the first stage, we firmly anchored the oil boom, and then, allowed the excursion of the oil boom. It turns out that oil boom with skirt of enough length (longer than 30% of depth) effectively confines the oil spill even against very energetic waves. We can also observe obliquely descending vertical eddies between y = 1~2 m as horizontal vortices shedding at the interface of oil spill and water are diffused toward the bottom, which is believed to be the birth, growing and break-down of Kelvin-Helmholz wave.

Cryogenic cutting technology is one of the most suitable technologies for dismantling nuclear facilities due to the fact that a secondary waste is not generated during the cutting process. In this paper, the feasibility of cryogenic cutting technology was investigated by using a computer simulation. In the computer simulation, a hybrid method combined with the SPH (smoothed particle hydrodynamics) method and the FE (finite element) method was used. And also, a penetration depth equation, for the design of the cryogenic cutting system, was used and the design variables and operation conditions to cut a 10 mm thickness for steel were determined. Finally, the main components of the cryogenic cutting system were manufactures on the basis of the obtained design variables and operation conditions.
In this study, numerical analysis of debris flow was performed using the SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) technique to analyze the mechanism of debris flow, and the applicability of soil parameters was verified by comparison with previous studies. In addition, after performing aerial photographic survey using a drone, a topographic model was created based on this survey to check the applicability of the site to the valley part of Jagul Mountain basin. And after numerical analysis of debris flow was performed using NFLOW, and the result was compared and analyzed with the existing satellite image based method. As a result of this study, the numerical analysis method using drone image and NFLOW was found to have a higher applicability to predicting the impact of debris flow, because it can reflect the actual topography better than the existing method based on satellite imagery. Therefore, it is considered that this study can be used as basic data to establish the preventive measures for debris flow such as location selection of the eruption control dam.
The objectives of this study is to carry out Bird strike analysis and tests of a blade antenna of aircraft. FEMs (Finite Element Models) were created for the analysis, while dummy and real antennas were used for the bird strike tests. In the analysis, birds were modeled with SPH (Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics) method, and the behaviors of the bird, antenna, and joint structure between antenna and aircraft fuselage were simulated with the FSI (Fluid-Structure Interaction) method. After the bird strike test was performed, the results of the analysis and test showed that they had a positive relationship. The damage of antenna and bolted joint was checked, and the structural integrity of the airframe was proved.
In this paper, we propose a new method to stable simulation the directional ice shape by coupling of freezing solver and viscous water flow. The proposed ice modeling framework considers viscous fluid flow in the direction of ice growth, which is important in freezing simulation. The water simulation solution uses the method of applying a new viscous technique to the IISPH(Implicit incompressible SPH) simulation, and the ice direction and the glaze effect use the proposed anisotropic freezing solution. The condition in which water particles change state to ice particles is calculated as a function of humidity and new energy with water flow. Humidity approximates a virtual water film on the surface of the object, and fluid flow is incorporated into our anisotropic freezing solution to guide the growth direction of ice. As a result, the results of the glaze and directional freezing simulations are shown stably according to the flow direction of viscous water.

The impact damage behavior of steel-strengthened concrete panels exposed to explosive loading is investigated. Since real explosion experiments require the vast costs to facilities as well as the blast and impact damage mechanisms are too complicated, numerical analysis has lately become a subject of special attention. However, for engineering problems involving blast wave and fragment impact, there is no single numerical method that is appropriate to the various problems. In order to evaluate the retrofit performance of a steel-strengthened concrete panel subject to blast wave and fragment impact loading, an explicit analysis program, AUTODYN is used in this work. The multi-solver coupling methods such as Euler-Lagrange and SPH-Lagrange coupling method in order to improve efficiency and accuracy of numerical analysis is implemented. The simplified and idealized two dimensional and axisymmetric models are used in order to obtain a reasonable computation running time. As a result of the analysis, concrete panels subject to either blast wave or fragment impact loading without the steel plate are shown the scabbing and perforation. The perforation can be prevented by concrete panels reinforced with steel plate. The numerical results show good agreement with the results of the experiments.

To evaluate the structural integrity of the helicopter radome, we performed bird strike analysis using SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) technique. Since the SPH method is a meshfree method, there is no phenomenon such as mesh tangling and it is suitable to predict the dispersion behavior of debris and debris cloud generated by high-speed impact. In order to observe the scattering direction of fractured bolts, the analysis were performed under the condition that the fracture occurs at the proof load. As a result of bird strike analysis, there is no secondary damage as well as the damage due to, the dispersion behavior of the bird model, and the scattering of the fractured bolts and radome. From the additional analysis that were performed to determine the actual bolt fracture, only plastic deformation is predicted since the maximum stress of the bolt does not exceed the ultimate stress.
