Background: Subalpine ecosystems at high altitudes and latitudes are particularly sensitive to climate change. In South Korea, the prediction of the species richness of subalpine plant species under future climate change is not well studied. Thus, this study aims to assess the potential impact of climate change on species richness of subalpine plant species (14 species) in the 17 mountain national parks (MNPs) of South Korea under climate change scenarios' representative concentration pathways (RCP) 4.5 and RCP 8.5 using maximum entropy (MaxEnt) and Migclim for the years 2050 and 2070. Results: Altogether, 723 species occurrence points of 14 species and six selected variables were used in modeling. The models developed for all species showed excellent performance (AUC > 0.89 and TSS > 0.70). The results predicted a significant loss of species richness in all MNPs. Under RCP 4.5, the range of reduction was predicted to be 15.38-94.02% by 2050 and 21.42-96.64% by 2070. Similarly, under RCP 8.5, it will decline 15.38-97.9% by 2050 and 23.07-100% by 2070. The reduction was relatively high in the MNPs located in the central regions (Songnisan and Gyeryongsan), eastern region (Juwangsan), and southern regions (Mudeungsan, Wolchulsan, Hallasan, and Jirisan) compared to the northern and northeastern regions (Odaesan, Seoraksan, Chiaksan, and Taebaeksan). Conclusions: This result indicates that the MNPs at low altitudes and latitudes have a large effect on the climate change in subalpine plant species. This study suggested that subalpine species are highly threatened due to climate change and that immediate actions are required to conserve subalpine species and to minimize the effect of climate change.

In order to secure basic data on biodiversity for wetland conservation and management used the data from Wetland Protected Area surveys conducted in South Korea (2015-2019) to analyze the distribution of fish from a total of 15 orders, 45 families, 134 species, and 12,972 individuals. The predominant species identified were Zacco platypus (Temminck and Schlegel) (19.47%) and Zacco koreanus (Kim, Oh and Hosoya) (8.16%). Of all emergent species, 52.9% (n=71 species) were freshwater species, 26.9% (n=36) were brackish species, 3.0% (n=4) were migratory species, 27% (n=36) were marine species, and 9.0% (n=12) were riffle benthic species. Overall, 5.2% (n=7 species) were endangered species, 3.0% (n=4) were exotic species, and 23.1% (n=31) were Korean endemic species. The eight identified Wetland Protected Areas (WPA) were classified based on their habitat characteristics and on the analysis of their emergent fish communities, as estuarine (n=2), coastal dune (n=1), marsh (n=2), stream (n=2), and stream-marsh (n=1) types. The environmental factors revealed to have the greatest influence on the species diversity of emergent fish were maintenance and repair, installation of reservoirs, and construction of artificial wetlands around them. The present study offers basic information on the diversity of fish species in different Wetland Protected Area types that can be used to inform conservation and management decisions for WPA.

They were classified into drugs for clearing away heat, drugs for detoxification, drugs for promoting diuresisr.
This study aimed to investigate habitat distribution and beetle diversity, using beetles as biological indicator species to assess environmental changes in the Mt. Mangunsan area near the South Sea of Korea. Plots were installed at varying elevations on the southern and northern slopes of Mt. Mangunsan, and the beetle species composition was determined. A total of 1,368 beetles comprising 32 species belonging to ten families were collected between May and September 2023 from the study sites in the Mt. Mangunsan area near the South Sea of Korea. The two most prevalent species consisted of Synuchus nitidus, with 152 collected beetles, and Calosoma chinense, with 128 collected beetles. In May, June, July, August, and September, 76 beetles comprising 10 species, 180 beetles comprising 18 species, 138 beetles comprising 15 species, 525 beetles comprising 27 species, and 449 beetles comprising 25 species were collected, respectively, with the highest abundance observed in August. In terms of elevation, 239 beetles comprising 19 species were collected at 300 m; 352 beetles comprising 27 species at 400 m; 314 beetles comprising 24 species at 500 m; 280 beetles comprising 22 species at 600 m; 183 beetles comprising 16 species at 700 m. Based on the slope, 442 beetles comprising 18 species belonging to eight families were collected on the southern slope, and 926 beetles comprising 24 species belonging to 10 families were collected on the northern slope. Analysis of the beetles on the southern slope produced the following estimations: diversity of 1.086, evenness of 0.866, and dominance of 0.109. Meanwhile, those in the northern slope yielded a diversity of 1.204, evenness of 0.873, and dominance of 0.081.
A faunistic study on the spiders (Arachnida: Araneae) from Mt. Jumbong Kangwon-do was carried out from 1996 to 1999. During the survey period, 144 species of 88 genera belonging to 27 families including 5 undetermined species were identified from 900 collecting individuals. The dominant families were Linyphiidae 21 species; 14.6% of total species), Araneidae (20 species, 13.9%), Theridiidae (16 species, 11.1%), and Salticidae 12 species, 8.3%). The composition of the species of web builders was richer than that of hunters. As for species commonness with adjacent countries, the numbers of common species between Mt. Jumbong and Japan, Mt. Jumbong and China, and Mt. Jumbong and Russia were 15 species (80.4%), 98 species (68.5%), and 48 species (33.6%), respectively. The number of common species among these four regions were 39 species (27.3%). So, the spider species composition in Mt. Jumbong seemed being much similar to those in neighbor countries. An outline of biogeographical distribution of spiders can be summarized as 1 Cosmopolitan species (0.7%), 16 Palearctic species (11.2%), 7 Holarctic species (4.9%), 25 Korean endemic species (17.4%) and no Oriental species. In the spider fauna at Mt. Jumbong, therefore, there are high level of occurrence of Korean endemic species with northern spiders as Palearctic and Holarctic species. The level and direction of man-made development may have negative effect on regional biota.
Gammarus gageoensis n. sp., a new species of freshwater gammarid, was collected from Gageodo Island, South Korea. This new species is characterized in terms of its morphology by the flagellum of antenna 2 with calceoli, the pereopods 3 and 4 with numerous long curled setae on the posterior margins, the terminal article of the outer ramus in uropod 3, which is longer than the adjacent spines, and the presence of both rami with long simple setae. The morphological characters of the new species that are different to related species are presented in the text. This paper also compares the new species to related species by the partial sequence of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) gene. The sequence difference, consisting of a 39-44% difference relative to closely related species, is also large enough to designate this gammarid as a different species from other freshwater gammarid species. This is the first finding of a new species of Korean freshwater gammarid since 1992. Including this new species, a total of 10 species are known to Korea.
The genus Callophyllis is recorded as six separate species with imprecise species delimitation in Korea. To elucidate the species boundaries of Korean Callophyllis, we performed morphological observations and molecular analyses, and included three Japanese Callophyllis species from the type locality. From the results of molecular analyses using plastid rbcL and mitochondrial COI-5P genes, we confirmed ten Callophyllis species, including five cryptic ones: C. adhaerens, C. adnata, C. crispata, and C. japonica from Korea and Japan; C. hayamensis as an unrecorded species from Korea; C. cartilaginea, C. mollitia, C. repens, C. serratifolia, and C. undulata as new species from Korea. There were no Korean specimens that matched C. adnata or C. crispata from Japan, except Korean C. japonica, which formed a genetic group with the Japanese species. We obtained the interspecific divergences among the five cryptic species as 0.6-4.5% in rbcL and 2.8-8.4% in COI-5P. We recognized that the species diversity of Callophyllis has been underestimated from the northwestern Pacific region. The species boundary of Callophyllis from Korea and Japan will be a cornerstone to revealing the phylogenetic affinity of the genus distributed in both hemispheres of the western Pacific.
The variability within and between Korean pond-smelt (Hypomesus nipponensis; KPS) and Canadian capelin (Mallotus villosus; CCP) were studied in order to clarify the genetic distances and differences. The dendrogram obtained by the seven primers indicates cluster 1 (KOREAN 01$\sim$KOREAN 11) and cluster 2 (CANADIAN 12$\sim$CANADIAN 22). The longest genetic distance displaying significant molecular differences was found to exist between individuals in the two geographic species of Osmeridae, between individuals' no. 10 of Korean and no. 18 of Canadian (0.686). 121 unique shared loci to each species, with an average of 17.3 per primer, were observed in the KPS species, and 264 loci, with an average of 37.7 per primer, were observed in the CCP species. 77 shared loci by the two species, with an average of 11.0 per primer, were observed in the two fish species. RAPD analysis showed that the KPS species was more genetically diverse than the CCP species. KPS species may have high levels of genomic DNA variability owing to the introduction of the wild individuals from the other sites to sampling sites although it may be the geographically diverse distribution of this species. As stated above, the existence of species discrimination and genetic variability between the KPS and the CCP species was identified by RAPD analysis.

Seasonal variations in species composition of catches were explored using seasonal samples caught by shrimp beam trawl in the Geum river estuary in 2011. During the study period, total catches were collected 91 species as fish 47 species, crustacean 28 species, mollusca 4 species, gastropoda 5 species, shellfish 3 species and others 4 species. The dominant species were Exopalaemon carinicauda, Eriocheir leptognathus, Palaemon gravieri, Mugil cephalus, Acanthogobius hasta, Cynoglossus joyneri, Pennahia argentata and Coilia nasus. The amount of species in spring and summer was higher than in autumn. The diversity index (H') was 0.43~0.96, evenness index (EI) was 0.14~0.25, and richness index (RI) was 1.54~4.25. Using cluster analysis 91 species were divided into 4 groups. Group I appeared mainly in spring and summer. Group II appeared only in summer. Group III appeared in winter and spring, and Group IV in spring and autumn.
The purpose of this study is to build Island biogeography in the basic concept of landscape ecology in South Korea by draw relationship between the species side of quantitative habitats and forest area surveyed in the national database based on investigation of the 2nd natural environment. In addition, try to present criterion of habitats character category after understanding habitats character of emergence area side of quality habitats based on the type of formatting. Species and forest area relationship analyzed using correlation analysis and simple regression analysis. Also habitat character limited composition ratio of neighboring land cover and analyzed using hierarchical cluster analysis to classify type of habitat. As a result, we found that forest area is correlated with number of species, forests which is bigger than 100ha are more important of increase in species' population. And according to land cover composition ratio, bird's classified types of forest inner species, forest edge species, forest outer species and mammal's classified types of forest inner species, forest general species, forest edge species. We suggest that study of species-forest area relationship and emergence habitat character be used as some management plans of species' conservation, protection and restoration.
