Background: The prevalence of esophageal cancer (EC) with second primary cancers (SPC) is increasing worldwide. This study was aimed to understand the clinical features of EC patients with SPC in the Taiwanese population. Materials and Methods: Clinical and laboratory data for 180 EC patients with or without SPC were collected between January 2009 and December 2013. Information on treatment approaches, location of SPCs and ABO blood type were also collected and stratified. Results: The most common SPC in EC patients was hypopharyngeal cancer, followed by laryngeal cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma in our study. Malignancies of colon, prostate and lung were also found. There was a significant higher portion of blood type A in the EC patients with SPC compared with those without (42.4% vs 19.5%, P=0.006). Conclusions: The frequency and SPC site distribution and blood type A should be considered in clinical evaluation of EC patients with a high risk of developing SPC in the Taiwanese population.
The fungicidal activities against resistance phytophthora blight (RPC; 95CC7303) and sensitive phytophthora blight (Phytopthora capsici) (SPC; 95CC7105) by new 2-alkoxyphenyl-3-phenylthioisoindoline-1-one derivatives (A & B) were studied using molecular holographic quantitative structure activity relationships (HQSAR) methodology. Based on the results, the statistical results of the two best HQSAR models, RI-B for RPC and SII-A for SPC exhibited the best predictability and fitness for the fungicidal activities based on the cross-validated value ($q^2=0.806{\sim}0.865$) and non cross-validated value ($r^2_{ncv.}=0.921{\sim}0.952$, respectively. The quality of the model for SPC was slightly than that of RPC. From the based graphical analyses of atomic contribution maps, it was confirmed that the novel selective character for fungicidal activities against RPC depends upon the 2-fluoro-4-chloro-5-alkoxyanilino group.
The effects of various nutrients added to soy protein concentrate (SPC)-yogurt on the growth of Lactobacillus acidophilus and the flavor of SPC-yogurt were investigated. Soy milk was prepared from SPC (4.2% as protein) and various nutrients. One hundred ml of the prepared soy milk was given proper heat treatment, inoculated with 2.5ml of 24 hr-old culture, and incubated for 24 hr at $37^{\circ}C$. The growth of L. acidophilus was estimated from viable cell counts, titratable acidity and pH. The growth curve obtained from the experiment suggested that the log phase ended after 6 hr and the stationary phase ended after 30 hr. Glucose and fructose greatly enhanced the acid production by L. acidophilus. The optimum concentration of these two sugars in the media was approximately 3% each. Yeast extract greatly stimulated the acid production by L. acidophilus, and the optimum concentration of this additive was approximately 0.5%. Higher concentration of SPC resulted in slightly higher acidity in soy yogurt.

In this paper, we propose a decoding scheme that can apply to a three dimensional turbo product code(TPC) with a single parity check code(SPC). In general, SPC is used an axis with shortest code length in order to maximize a code rate of the TPC. However, SPC does not have any error correcting capability, therefore, the error correcting capability of the three-dimensional TPC results in little improvement in comparison with the two-dimensional TPC. We propose two schemes to improve performance of three dimensional TPC decoder. One is $min^*$-sum algorithm that has advantages for low complexity implementation compared to Chase-Pyndiah algorithm. The other is a modified serial iterative decoding scheme for high performance. In addition, the simulation results for the proposed scheme are shown and compared with the conventional scheme. Finally, we introduce some practical considerations for hardware implementation.
In this study, we proposed a new concept termed the Secondary Peak Constant (SPC) and discerned the temporal characteristics of independent rainstorm events based on unit time and SPC about 24 observation stations in Seoul. Utilizing rainfall observations from 2000 to 2022, independent rainstorm events discreted from rainfall data per unit time. The temporal characteristics of these events were derived according to unit time, and temporal characteristics of the peak rainfall were identified through the SPC. Finally, the temporal characteristics of independent rainstorm events were examined distinctively when analyzed by unit time and SPC. Independent rainstorm events with smaller unit time showed significantly larger total rainfall, rainfall duration, and rainfall intensity. The temporal characteristics of the largest peak rainfall (1st Peak) within independent rainstorm events followed a sequence of Q4>Q2>Q3>Q1. Additionally, the 2nd Peak rainfall predominantly occurred the location where the 1st Peak appeared. The proportion of independent rainstorm events with multiple peak rainfalls exceeded 50.0% when the SPC was 0.7 or lower. The average number of peak rainfalls within independent rainstorm events ranged from 1.5 to 3.4. This study identified the temporal characteristics of independent rainstorm events based on unit time. Then, the peak rainfall of temporal characteristics was quantified by SPC on this study. Hence, it is evident that the temporal characteristics of independent rainstorm events for specific area can be anlayzed and quantified based on unit time and SPC.
There has been considerable organisms the most indicative of the sanitary quality of food products. Of the suggested indices of sanitary quality of foods are coliform organism and SPC. In addition to the usual index organisms on fish products it is also necessary to determining the sanitary quality The authors have tested with 282 fish products (spring : 39, summer : 109, autumn : 112, winter . 22) 1. The range of microbial organism in fish products are as follows Spring : SPC is $13{\times}10^3\; to\; 50{\times}10^8/g$, coliform group is $16{\times}10^2\; to\; 48{\times}10^8/g$ and 2. coli is 50 to $22{\times}10^4/100g$. Summer : SPC is 70 to$64{\times}10^9/g$. coliform group is 25 to $26{\times}10^8/g$ and E. coli is 20 to $22{\times}10^4/100g$. Autumn : SPC is $10{\times}10^3\; to\; 46{\times}10^8/g$, coliform group is 200 to $20{\times}10^5/g$ and E. coli is 20 to $22{\times}10^4/100g$. Winter : SPC is $30{\times}10^3\; to\;30{\times}10^8/g$. coliform group is $21{\times}10^2\;to\;16{\times}10^3/g$ and E. coli is 20 to 790/100g. Salmonella and Staphylococcus species were not in 282 fish products.
Vibration-based fault detection and condition monitoring of rotating machinery, using statistical process control (SPC) combined with statistical pattern recognition methodology, has been widely investigated by many researchers. In particular, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is considered as a powerful tool for feature extraction in detecting fault on rotating machinery. Although DWT significantly reduces the dimensionality of the data, the number of retained wavelet features can still be significantly large. Then, the use of standard multivariate SPC techniques is not advised, because the sample covariance matrix is likely to be singular, so that the common multivariate statistics cannot be calculated. Even though many feature-based SPC methods have been introduced to tackle this deficiency, most methods require a parametric distributional assumption that restricts their feasibility to specific problems of process control, and thus limit their application. This study proposes a nonparametric multivariate control chart method, based on multiscale wavelet scalogram (MWS) features, that overcomes the limitation posed by the parametric assumption in existing SPC methods. The presented approach takes advantage of multi-resolution analysis using DWT, and obtains MWS features with significantly low dimensionality. We calculate Hotelling's $T^2$-type monitoring statistic using MWS, which has enough damage-discrimination ability. A bootstrap approach is used to determine the upper control limit of the monitoring statistic, without any distributional assumption. Numerical simulations demonstrate the performance of the proposed control charting method, under various damage-level scenarios for a bearing system.
It was perfomed to investigate for Yersinia species from 2,841 spring waters in Seoul, from 1994 to 1998. Of them, Yersinia spp. were isolated 86 isolated (3.3%). Of 86, sixty two isolates(71.1%) were Yesinia enterocolitica, followed by Y. aldovae (11 strains), Y. pseudotuberculosis (5 strains), Y. frederiksenii (3 strains), unclassified Yersinia spp. (5 strains). Yersinia spp. were highest isolated from Nowon-Gu (22 samples asd Bukhan Mountain Park isolated(18 samples). We tested 1.186 samples for SPC and colifrom from 1996 to 1998. of these tests, the positive rate of coliform was 23.6%, SPC, 9.1%, and either coliform of SPC positive 27.1%. The positive rates of coliform and SPC were decreased 26.7%, 12.7% in 1996, 25.8%, 6.3% in 1997 and 18.1%, 7.6% in 1998 , rerspectively. Of Y. enterocolitica, 78% was resistant to ampicillin and carbenicillin. In the case of Y. aldovae, only 3 of 11 isolated were resistant to carbenicillin. Y. pseudotuberculosis were resistant to colistin. Also Y. frederiksenii to carbenicillin. There were many spring waters of Y. enterocolitical isolated from Nowon-Gu and Buk-han Mountain Park. So, it needs to clean the environment of those regions.
