  • Spatial data warehouses are a system managing manufactured data through ETL step with extracted spatial data from spatial DBMS or various data sources. In load period, duplicated spatial data in the same subject are not useful in extracted spatial data dislike aspatial data and waste the storage space by the feature of spatial data. Also, in case of extracting source data on heterogeneous system, as those have different spatial type and schema, the spatial extract method is required for them. Processing a step matching address about extracted spatial data using a standard Geocoding DB, the exiting methods load formal data set. However, the methods cause the comparison operation of extracted data with Geocoding DB, and according to integrate spatial data by subject it has problems which do not consider duplicated data among heterogeneous spatial DBMS. This paper proposes efficient extracting method to integrate update query extracted from heterogeneous source systems in data warehouse constructer. The method eliminates unnecessary extracting operation cost to choose related update queries like insertion or deletion on queries generated from loading to current point. Also, we eliminate and integrate extracted spatial data using update query in source spatial DBMS. The proposed method can reduce wasting storage space caused by duplicate storage and support rapidly analyzing spatial data by loading integrated data per loading point.

  • Recently, the necessity of automatic knowledge extraction from spatial data stored in spatial databases has been increased. Spatial data mining can be defined as the extraction of implicit knowledge, spatial relationships, or other knowledge not explicitly stored in spatial databases. In order to extract useful knowledge from spatial data, an object management system that can store spatial data efficiently, provide very fast indexing & searching mechanisms, and support a distributed computing environment is needed. In this paper, we designed and implemented an open object management system for spatial data mining, that supports efficient management of spatial, aspatial, and knowledge data. In order to develop this system, we used Open OODB that is a widely used object management system. However, the lark of facilities for spatial data mining in Open OODB, we extended it to support spatial data type, dynamic class generation, object-oriented inheritance, spatial index, spatial operations, etc. In addition, for further increasement of interoperability with other spatial database management systems or data mining systems, we adopted international standards such as ODMG 2.0 for data modeling, SDTS(Spatial Data Transfer Standard) for modeling and exchanging spatial data, and OpenGIS Simple Features Specification for CORBA for connecting clients and servers efficiently.

  • The present study focuses on the contribution of a teaching unit to the development of spatial ability of third graders in general and from a gender point of view in particular. The research population consisted of seventy-four pupils: thirty-seven pupils in the experimental group who attended the teaching unit and thirty-seven pupils in the control group. The spatial ability of all the pupils was examined by means of common tests which checked cognitive capabilities of spatial ability. The research findings illustrate an improvement in the spatial ability of the experimental group pupils following the participation in the teaching unit. Moreover, regarding the gender aspect, the findings show that there was no significant differentiation between the spatial ability of third grade boys and the spatial ability of girls of the same age group.

  • This paper presents an energy-efficient spatial join algorithm for multiple sensor networks employing a spatial semijoin strategy. For optimization of the algorithm, we propose a GR-tree index and a grid-ID-based spatial approximation method, which are unique to sensor networks. The GR-tree is a distributed spatial index over the sensor nodes, which efficiently prunes away the nodes that will not participate in a spatial join result. The grid-ID-based approximation provides great reduction in communication cost by approximating many spatial objects in simpler forms. Our experiments demonstrate that the algorithm outperforms existing methods in reducing energy consumption at the nodes.

  • Acoustic holography exhibits the spatial distribution of sound pressure in time or frequency domain. The obtained picture often contains far more than what we need in practice. For example, when we need to know only the locations and overall propagation pattern of sound sources, a method to show only what we need has to be introduced. One way of obtaining the necessary information is to use envelope in space. The spatial envelope is a spatially slowly-varying amplitude of acoustic waves which contains the information of sources' location. A spatial modulation method has been theoretically developed to get a spatial envelope. By applying the spatial envelope, not only the necessary information is obtained but also computation time is reduced during the process of holography. The spatial envelope is verified as an effective visualization scheme in time domain by being applied to complicated sound fields.

  • One distinguishing feature of BIM(Building Information Modeling) is the objectification of spatial elements independently, which makes it easy to represent spatial network. From this perspective, this study aimed to develop the spatial network analysis tool based on open BIM technologies. From the literature review, an object model of spatial network with nodes and links and a process model from construction to visualization were established. A prototype system implementing the proposed models, named SNAT(Spatial Network Analysis Tool), was developed in Java platform with using its open source packages. SNAT can create a spatial network from IFC-BIM model, calculate the indices of spatial network analysis, and visualize it with the representing types(map, graph, matrix and table).
