  • This study was conducted to investigate the bacteriological and physiological quality of seawater and surface sediments in Sacheon Bay of Korea from January to September in 2009. During the study period, the means of temperature was range from 5.3 to $24.9^{\circ}C$ (mean $17.7{\pm}0.4^{\circ}C$), transparency range from 1.4 to 2.5 m (mean $1.8{\pm}0.5m$), suspended solid ranged from 16.2 to 35.8 mg/L (mean $24.2{\pm}2.2mg/L$), chemical oxygen demand ranged from 1.42 to $3.29mgO_2/L$ (mean $2.06{\pm}0.55mgO_2/L$), dissolved oxygen ranged from 6.7 to 9.5mg/L (mean $7.9{\pm}0.6mg/L$), respectively. Seafood, if eaten raw, carries the risk of food poisoning. Seafood poisoning is often cause by pathogenic microorganism originating from fecal contamination, such as Salmonella sp., Shigella sp. and norovirus. Fecal coliforms are an important indicator of fecal contamination. Therefor, data on fecal coliform are very important for evaluating the safety of fisheries in coastal areas. So, we investigated the sanitary indicate bacteria. In this study, 56 sea water samples were collected from the Sacheon Bay, and total and fecal coliforms were compared and analyzed. The coliform group and fecal coliform MPN's of sea water in Sacehon Bay were ranged from <1.8~7,900 MPN/100mL (GM 214.7 MPN/100mL) and <1.8~330 MPN/100mL (GM 9.7 MPN/ 100mL), respectively. Total coliforms were detected in 75.0% of the samples and 76.2% of the total coliforms were fecal coliforms. During the study period, the means of water content, ignition loss, COD, and acid volatile sulfates in sediments in Sacheon Bay were $53.28{\pm}2.58%$, $9.38{\pm}0.42%$, $14.23{\pm}3.36mgO_2/g$, $0.09{\pm}0.07mgS/g$, respectively.

  • One of the recent environmental problems is climate change due to the increase of atmospheric $CO_2$, which causes ecological changes and various environmental problems. Therefore, various studies are being carried out to reduce $CO_2$ in the world in order to solve various environmental problems caused by increase of $CO_2$. The $CO_2$ reduction using microalgae is an environmentally friendly method by using photosynthesis reaction of microalgae. However, most studies using single species. There is no study on the $CO_2$ fixing efficiency of microalgae in natural rivers. Therefore, this study was to identify the microalgae in the Sum river and to analyze the growth characteristics of microalgae in the river to obtain optimal culture conditions. And the changes of biomass and chlorophyll-a of microalgae were analyzed according to $CO_2$ concentration and injection rate. The purpose of this study was to investigate the fixing efficiency of carbon dioxide in microalgae in natural rivers. Six kinds of dominant species were observed as a result of the identification of microalgae in Sum river(Ankistrodesmus falcatus, Scenedesmus intermedius, Selenodictyum sp., Xanthidium apiculatum var. laeve, Cosmarium pseudoquinarium, Dictyosphaerium pulchellum). All of these species were green algae. Biomass and chlorophyll-a increased with the increase of $CO_2$ concentration and biomass and chlorophyll-a increased faster flow rate at the same $CO_2$ concentration. Also, the quantity of $CO_2$ fixation on the microalgae tended to be higher when the flow rate of injected gas was faster. This study can be referred as being significant in the micro-algae in river. In addition, the optimal conditions for $CO_2$ fixation of microalgae in rivers and the quantification of the quantity of $CO_2$ fixation from microalgae in rivers can be used as basic data for future policy of $CO_2$ reduction.

  • In order to presume the relationships between two species of P. ternata and P. tripartia, and their populations of the Korean Pinellia, RAPD analysis was performed. The length of the amplified DNA fragments ranged from 300 to 2,500bp. Seventy scorable RAPD makers were found from the PCR reactions with 7 random oligoprimers and were analyzed by Nei-Li's genetic coefficient. Also, some regional groups instead of same taxa were clustered from the phenogram of UPGMA analysis and NJ tree. Populations within each species were clustered at low genetic distance, there had the closed relationship. According to the regional individuals, Pinellia ternata was showed the variation pattern of morphological (leaf shape and flower color) and cytological characters(somatic chromosome numbers). So we suggested to difference of characteristic variety based on variety of habitat. According to this study, new species (Pinellia sp.) was affiliated with Pinellia and had the closest relationship with Hallasan and Japan population. The RAPD data was very useful to define the genetic variation and to discuss the relationships among the intraspecific taxa and their populations of the Korean Pinellia.

  • In this paper, we propose a no-reference objective Quality assessment metrics of image. The blockiness and blurring of edge areas which are sensitive to the human visual system are modeled as step functions. Blocking and blur metrics are obtained by estimating local visibility of blockiness and edge width, For the blocking metric, horizontal and vertical blocking lines are first determined by accumulating weighted differences of adjacent pixels and then the local visibility of blockiness at the intersection of blocking lines is obtained from the total difference of amplitudes of the 2-D step function which is modelled as a blocking region. The blurred input image is first re-blurred by a Gaussian blur kernel and an edge mask image is generated. In edge blocks, the local edge width is calculated from four directional projections (horizontal, vertical and two diagonal directions) using local extrema positions. In addition, the kurtosis and SSIM are used to compute the blur metric. The final no-reference objective metric is computed after those values are combined using an appropriate function. Experimental results show that the proposed objective metrics are highly correlated to the subjective data.

  • In general, image-based 3D scenes can now be found in many popular vision systems, computer games and virtual reality tours. In this paper, we propose a method for creating 3D virtual scenes based on 2D image that is completely automatic and requires only a single scene as input data. The proposed method is similar to the creation of a pop-up illustration in a children's book. In particular, to estimate geometric structure information for 3D scene from a single outdoor image, we apply the tensor voting to an image segmentation. The tensor voting is used based on the fact that homogeneous region in an image is usually close together on a smooth region and therefore the tokens corresponding to centers of these regions have high saliency values. And then, our algorithm labels regions of the input image into coarse categories: "ground", "sky", and "vertical". These labels are then used to "cut and fold" the image into a pop-up model using a set of simple assumptions. The experimental results show that our method successfully segments coarse regions in many complex natural scene images and can create a 3D pop-up model to infer the structure information based on the segmented region information.

  • In the present study, mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs)were extracted from in Chlamydomonas hedleyi, and their function was investigated regarding to protective capacity against UV radiation and a possibility to be developed into functional suncream including MAAs by using natural compounds. In particulr, we assessed UV protective ability and anti-inflammation of shinorine in human skin cells. As a result, shinorine can protect the skin against damage by the absorption of energy from UV radiation and functions as an anti-wrinkling substrate through a increase of collagen synthesis. These data suggest that shinorine can be utilized not only as a substrate to protect UV radiation, but anti-aging material in cosmetic products.

  • The stromatal forms of T. fuciformis and the mycelia of Hypoxylon sp. were collected. The DNA sequence in the ITS region of the 5.8S ribosomal genes of isolated strain KG103 was very similar to that of T. fuciformis AF042409 with a homology of over 98% in the EMBL/GenBank database through BLAST searching. A second isolate, No KG201, one of the symbiotic strains for cultivating T. fuciformis also exhibited high homology with Annulohhypoxylon stygium AJ390406. Potato Dextrose Medium exhibited the best mycelial growth of 14 mm/14 days and 85 mm/14 days for T. fuciformis and its symbiotic fungi, respectively. Optimum culture conditions for the micelial growth were pH 5 at $25^{\circ}C$. For the optimization of artificial cultivation of T. fuciformis in bottle with sawdust medium, several conditions such as type of sawdust, supplements, pH, moisture content, and incubation temperature were investigated. T. fuciformis and symbiotic fungi showed fast mycelial growth on corn cob media (77 and 52%) followed by oak tree sawdust and cotton seed meal. The optimal temperature for mycelial growth of T. fuciformis and symbiotic fungi on corn cob media was $25^{\circ}C$ at 55% of moisture content.

  • Three-dimensional (3-D) texture coordinates mean the position information of torture segments that are mapped into polygons in a 3-D mesh model. In order to compress texture coordinates, previous works reused the same linear predictor that had already been employed to code geometry data. However, the previous approaches could not carry out linear prediction efficiently since texture coordinates were discontinuous along a coding order. Especially, discontinuities of texture coordinates became more serious in the 3-D mesh model including a non-atlas texture. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to code 3-D texture coordinates using as a texture image rearrangement. The proposed coding scheme first extracts texture segments from a texture. Then, we rearrange the texture segments consecutively along the coding order, and apply a linear prediction to compress texture coordinates. Since the proposed scheme minimizes discontinuities of texture coordinates, we can improve coding efficiency of texture coordinates. Experiment results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the MPEG-4 3DMC standard in terms of coding efficiency.

  • We present a multi-resolution block matching algorithm (BMA) for fast motion estimation At the coarsest level, a motion vector (MV) having minimum matching error is chosen via a full search, and a MV with minimum matching error is concurrently found among the MVs of the spatially adjacent blocks Here, to examine the spatial MVs accurately, we propose an efficient method for searching full resolution MV s without MV quantization even at the coarsest level The chosen two MV s are used as the initial search centers at the middle level At the middle level, the local search is performed within much smaller search area around each search center If the method used at the coarsest level is adopted here, the local searches can be done at integer-pel accuracy A MV having minimum matching error is selected within the local search areas, and then the final level search is performed around this initial search center Since the local searches are performed at integer-pel accuracy at the middle level, the local search at the finest level does not take an effect on the overall performance So we can skip the final level search without performance degradation, thereby the search speed increases Simulation results show that in comparison with full search BMA, the proposed BMA without the final level search achieves a speed-up factor over 200 with minor PSNR degradation of 02dB at most, under a normal MPEG2 coding environment Furthermore, our scheme IS also suitable for hardware implementation due to regular data-flow.

  • Recently, fusion camera systems that consist of depth sensors and color cameras have been widely developed with the advent of a new type of sensor, time-of-flight (TOF) depth sensor. The physical limitation of depth sensors usually generates low resolution images compared to corresponding color images. Therefore, the pre-processing module, such as camera calibration, three dimensional warping, and hole filling, is necessary to generate the high resolution depth map that is placed in the image plane of the color image. However, the result of the pre-processing step is usually inaccurate due to errors from the camera calibration and the depth measurement. Therefore, in this paper, we present a depth map upsampling method robust these errors. First, the confidence of the measured depth value is estimated by the interrelation between the color image and the pre-upsampled depth map. Then, the detailed depth map can be generated by the modified kernel regression method which exclude depth values having low confidence. Our proposed algorithm guarantees the high quality result in the presence of the camera calibration errors. Experimental comparison with other data fusion techniques shows the superiority of our proposed method.
