  • Background: Inflammation plays a major role in the development and progression of gastric and other gastrointestinal tumors. The IL-17 family of cytokines has been under investigation as targets of immunotherapy. Materials and Methods: We investigated the levels of IL-17A inflammatory cytokine in the sera of 57 patients with gastric cancer (GC) and 90 healthy age/sex matched controls using ELISA methods. Results: In only 5 (8.8%) of the patients' sera was IL-17A detectable. No IL-17A was apparent in the sera of healthy controls. The maximum concentration of IL-17A in patients was 7.004 pg/ml. Vascular and lymphatic invasions were only seen in one of the 5 positive cases. Although all of them were in the age group >60 years, no correlation was seen between age and IL-17A level. These results are somewhat different from our findings for colorectal cancer (CRC) in the same population. Conclusions: It is possible that the inflammopathology of CRC and GC are rather different, at least in Fars, a southern province of Iran.

  • The objectives of this study were: i) to detect the presence of Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) in raw milk, cheese, beef minced meat, and chicken meat samples; ii) to evaluate the antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolates; and iii) to determine clonal relation among the isolates by using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) method. Therefore, a total of 160 food samples were randomly collected between August 2014 and May 2015 in Hatay province, located in the southern Turkey. Twenty (12.5%) of the samples were found to be contaminated with S. aureus. A total of 40 isolates from the 20 positive samples were confirmed to be S. aureus by multiplex PCR based on 16S rRNA and nuc gene. The mec A gene was not detected in any of the S. aureus strains. In the present study, 39 out of 40 (97.5%) isolates were found to be resistant to one or more antibiotics. All of isolates were susceptible to gentamicin, oxacillin, and vancomycin. The highest resistance rate was detected in penicillin (95%) and ampicillin (92.5%), followed by tetracycline (30%), erythromycin (20%), ciprofloxacin (12.5%). Nine major patterns were determined by PFGE. In 6 of these patterns, thirty-six strains (90%) had identical PFGE profiles.

  • Rice stripe virus causes severe damage to rice in Korea, Japan and China. RSV is a type member of the tenuivirus group and transmitted by the small brown planthopper, Laodeiphax striatellus, in a persistant manner. Until now, occurrence of RSV is limited in of southern part of Korea. But recently occurrence of RSV is increasing and spreading in central part of Korea including Chungcheong and Kyonggi province. So we analyzed recent occurrence trend of RSV which is increased and cloned and sequenced coat protein gene for isolating of RSV strain. Infected rice of each species(Ilpumbyeo, Sindongjinbyeo, Keumobyeo-2, Dongjinbyeo, Jongnambyeo, Samcheonbyeo, etc.)is collected, we extracted total RNA from infected leaves and detected RSV viral RNA by reverse transcription(RT)-PCR using specific primer of coat protein gene. The result of RT-PCR, we observed specific band. We already cloned cDNA from the band, is analyzing sequence variety and homology of each species.

  • We focused our research interests on the characteristic of silk fabrics dyed with green tea extracts and, moreover, revealed the catechin content of silk fabrics after dyeing with Korean tea extract by measuring the residues. Three kinds of green tea samples were taken between April and May, 2003, from Bosung(southern province in South Korea), in different terms as the first corp, the second corp, and the third corp. Before and after dyeing the silk fabrics with these extracts, catechins in the residue were analyzed by HPLC. Four kinds of Catechins, such as (-)-epicatechin(EC), (-)-epicatechin gallate(ECG), (-)-epigallocatechin (EgC), (-)-epigallocatechin gallate(EgCG) were isolated from Korean green tea extracts. Catechine contents in Korean green tea leaves depend on the making process such as heating and steaming, and the younger the richer. The absorbed catechins in sillk fabrics after dyeing followed in a decreasing order of EgCG>EgC>ECG>EC. We have found a 68% uptake of EgCG, and 116.8mg/g of EgCG in the silk fabrics after dyeing with 1% Korean green tea extracts.

  • Temporal and spatial distribution patterns of the magmatic rocks and associated ore deposits in the Mesozoic magmatic - metallogenic belt along the Yangtz River, Anhui Province are used to determine and discuss the crust - mantle interaction processes. The magmatic rocks are Cu - Au mineralized high - K calc - alkalic intermediate ¬acidic (CAK) and Fe - Cu mineralized high - Na alkalic - calc intermediate - basic intrusive rocks (FCN) in the central part of the belt and grade to Cu - Mo - Pb - Zn - Ag mineralized calc - alkalic granitoids (CMG) and A - type granites (AG) in the southern and northern parts of the belt. Samples from the CAK and CMG yield Rb - Sr isochron ages of 137 - 140Ma with $(^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr)_{o}$ = 0.7060 - 0.7101, while those from the FCN and AG yield the ages of 120 - 129Ma with $(^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr)_{o}$ = 0.7047 - 0.7077. The Sr isotope ratios, CriTh ratios 0.4 - 3.1), Eu/Eu* ratios < 0.79 - 1.05) and initial epsilon (Nd) values (-16.6 - -6.3) for the CAK and CMG are consistent with magma derivation from old metamorphic basement rocks rich in metallogenic elements through a two - stage process of mantle - derived magma underplating caused by primary lithosphere extension and subsequent partial melting. On the basis of Sr isotope data, CriTh ratios (3.4 - 13.8), Eu/Eu* ratios (0.86 - 1.13) and initial epsilon (Nd) values (-7.7 - +1.4), the FCN and AG are considered to be formed through syntexis with material input from the mantle that resulted from further lithosphere extension followed by mantle - derived magma underplating on a large scale.

  • As a part of basic investigation to Fishery Purge Project for the Special Administrative in Chollanamdo Province, the sedimentary environmental characteristics of Yoja Bay at 15 stations were studied. The analysis was carried out in July, 1998, through studies of Loss On Ignition (LOI) by depth, Total Sulfide (T-5), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) concentrations and Grain-size distribution. The LOI value was found to be 6.20-12.20% (mean of 8.89%), with the neighboring Sunhakri and Haksanri areas showing slightly higher values. These values were similar to the LOI values observed in the Hansan-Koje Bay and Jinju Bay areas on the southern coast of Korea. T-S and COD concentrations were found to be, respectively, 0.060-0.104 mg/gㆍd (mean of 0.052 mg/gㆍd) and 5.53-29.71 mg/gㆍd(mean of 13.24 mg/gㆍd), not exceeding eutrophication limits. T-S concentration was especially high at stations close to the central areas of the bay and inland areas, which caused by organic matter input from the nearby agricultural areas. COD concentration was very high at stations nearby the bay entrance and Doonbyungdo, but the mean value was lower than that of Hansan-Koje Bay. This leads us to believe that the level of pollution in Yoja Bay is not significant. The prevailing sediment composition was mud, consisting of 61.38% silt and 34.87% clay. • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among mothers' parenting stress, children's emotional-behavioral problems, and development of children's play patterns. For this study, we observed 81 5-year-old children attending a kindergarten in Southern Chungcheong province. The results of this study are as follows: First, as the mothers felt more parenting stress, the children showed more emotional-behavioral problems. This means that there exists a positive relationship between two factors. Second, aggression, oppositional defiance, and attention deficit among the children's emotional-behavioral problems had a significant, negative influence on the frequency of non-play and parallel play, while they had a significant, affirmative effect on the frequency of group play. Consequently, this study found that mother's parenting stress and child's emotional-behavioral problems affect the development of child's play patterns both directly and indirectly.

  • The aim of this paper is analyzing the economic outcome of development aid project on closed mine and submitting the policy alternatives to seek for substitute industries which lead independent growth of that area. Despite the aid project deployed from 2001 to 2010, the economic result appears to be fragile. It is obvious that the contents and magnitude of aid projects has its own limitation to build independent economic structure in closed mine area. Conclusively, to overcome the regional restrictions, it is important to establish the aid project scheme to make a strategic and systematic resource distribution under the regional circumstances.

  • The aims of this study is to analyze that the double-skinned outer surface of building will be the effective measure to improve the use of space and save energy through the evaluation of the buildings renovation. In other words, it is significantly effective to increase the insulation of the outer surface where the most heat loss occurs; it is also energy-saving to convert the space created by pilotis in the southern and northern parts of the buildings into an double-skinned atrium. Research methods of this study are consisted with two steps, situation analysis and simulation analysis. IRISYS 1000 Series Imager was used for research of situation analysis and Visual DOE 4.0 was used for simulation analysis with the 1st Buildings of Jeju Special self-Governing Province. As results of simulation, it was proved that Double skin Method is more effective for green building than basic model. it was predicted to save 8.6% of energy by Double skin Method. Especially, in case of using of ventilation within double-skinned atrium, it was predicted that saving of energy was most effective than other method.

  • According to the way of expression and the ritual procedure, there is a difference in the costume between Jinoggigut in Seoul and Sitggimgut, hereditary dance in the southern part of Joella province. Even though they share the same story, which is to soothe the spirit of the deceased and to listen to the grudge of the remained, the two shaman rituals are slightly different in their costumes. And the characteristics of the costume in Seoul Jinoggigut, and Jindo Sitggimgut are as follows; First, both in Seoul Jinoggigut, a spiritual dance and Jindo Sitggimgut, a hereditary dance, the universal roles of shaman costume, which are generally shown in "gut", are found-build a sacred environment, prepare for the experience of the spiritual world, listen to the grudge of the deceased and wish for God's bless. Second, the shaman costume has a special role to express specific and complex symbols-representing God on one hand, symbolizing the dead on the other. Third, unique symbols are found in the costume of Mangjachoendogut with the formality of the ritual procedure.
