in seaside was emphasized on mainly visual elements such as monumental sculptures, towers, landscape and so on. But a memorial space in seaside has peculiar and various sound environments comparing with other spaces. In that sense, there are many rooms to improve soundscape of the space by adding suitable sounds to or by subtracting unsuitable sounds from a memorial space.

The soundscape is a novel attempt to offer comfortable sound environments at the urban public spaces by adding pleasant sounds and removing unagreeable ones. Most important factors to be considered therein are to determine what kind of sounds to offer and how to adjust them to the changing circumstances. But, installing, maintaining and adjusting the soundscape system directly in the field will ensue numerous problems as well as high costs. Thus, it is essential to devise a test method to analyse and verify the outcome before the actual installation in the field takes place. This study aims at devising the instrument system that enables to control. with a great ease, numerous variables. reproduce most agreeable sound sources, and can verify the effects on the virtual simulatory settings, which is named as Virtual Acoustic Field Simulation System (VAFSS).

The method of promoing sound surroundings with the new concept named 'Soundscape' attracts the public attention. This new method is the way of active promoting acoustic surroundings to offer the vitality, comfort and identity of urban space and relative quietness by masking the noise with natural and signal sounds. Therefore, this research has the purpose of finding out the method of soundscape concept of urban public space for the comfort acoustic surroundings.

There are many attempts to make more comfortable amenity in city districts and streets to provide a soundscape design. And the sound which reflects the culture and peculiarity of characterized the street must be preserved. Thus these attempts are recognized as another noise control to give the suitable environmental sound, not to reduce noise level. This study aims to analyze the behavior of the pedestrian and sound environment of the street sound, by measuring the sound level for the Insa-Dong Traditional Culture street. As the results, it is advisable to use the natural water sound dominating the district and to provide the staying spot to watch the event to be held. The results of this study could be used as fundamental data to recover the image of Insa-Dong Traditional Culture street to consider design concept of soundscape.

It is requures to understand the meaning of sound and cultural background of target spaces for soundscape design. The purpose of this study is to derive the general soundscape preserved in the mind of Korean people. Four kinds of traditional Korean songs, that is to say, Sijo (Korean verse), folk-song, Pansori (song for drama by Chang reciter), and popular songs, were used as tools of research subjects. That is because the sounds expressed in literature are very useful subjects for soundscape survey. Paragraphs containing description of sounds were selected from the lyrics of the songs. Then 11 sound categories were named, and 13 meaning categories were classified according to referential and emotional aspects, respectively.

본고는 음악 문화의 전통적인 관습에서 벗어나고자 하는 움직임인 사운드스케이프에 관해 연구한다. 사회·문화·기술적 발전이 음악 문화의 패러다임 변화에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 사운드스케이프에 주목하여 살펴본다. 변화 양상으로서 사운드스케이프의 특성을 이해하고 지금껏 간과해 왔던 청각의 특성과 청취 경험에 관해 현상학의 관점으로 논의한다. 이상의 논의를 위해 머레이 쉐이퍼의 사운드스케이프 개념에 기반하며 청각과 청취 경험에 대한 현상학적 이해를 위해 상황의 공간성, 주관적인 청점, 사운드의 지평, 청각의 장, 배경음과 전경음, 시의적 초점, 공시간, 세계-에의-존재 등의 개념으로 설명한다. 사운드의 특성과 청각, 청취 경험에 대한 이해가 예술적 창작에 있어 창의적인 표현을 위한 새로운 아이디어를 제시하는 데 기여할 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

본 연구에서는 국립공원에서 자연의 소리는 생태계의 구성요소임과 동시에 탐방객들이 공원을 체험하는 중요한 요소이다. 따라서 국립공원 내 소음 분포 특성을 파악하고 자연의 음환경(Soundscape) 보존 및 복원을 위한 노력은 국립공원 관리 차원에서 중요한 과제 중 하나이다. 그러나 여전히 국내 국립공원에서는 소음 관리 및 음환경 보존에 대한 관심이 미약한 것이 사실이다. 무등산국립공원은 호남지역에서 가장 중요한 자연보호지역 중 하나로 계절별 동물이 우는 소리, 물소리, 바람 소리 등 탐방객들에게 자연의 소리를 제공할 수 있는 최적의 장소이지만 대도시에 인접해 있고 공원 내부로 도로 및 대규모 시설지가 인접해있는 등 소음이 발생하여 공원 내 음환경에 위협이 되고 있는 상황이다. 따라서 본 연구는 소음지도, 탐방로 소리등급도, 주요 지점의 음환경 녹음 데이터, 소리자원 분포도 등의 분석을 통해 무등산국립공원 내 소리 분포 특성을 파악하고 광범위한 소음의 영향을 나타냄으로써 음환경 관리의 필요성을 시사하고 있다는 중요성을 지니고 있다. 반면 본 연구에서는 연구 인력과 장비의 한계로 인하여 소음지도, 탐방로 소리등급도, 소리자원 분포도의 속성 데이터 수집 기간이 상이한 점이 한계점으로 남는다. 그러나 본 연구의 결과는 탐방 만족도 및 자연의 음환경 보존 등을 목표로 향후 지속적인 음환경 보존 및 관리를 위해 활용될 수 있는 기초자료가 될 것으로 판단된다.

The Street of Arts Is a famous site for artists as well as tourists in Gwangju, as it harbors clusters of galleries, antique shops, and dealers of materials for fainting and calligraphy, studded with ateliers and traditional tea huts. It is the mecca of arts which Gwangju-ites, who boast of themselves being in the 'Land of Arts', take great pride in, and it has been deemed as symbolizing the cultural excellence of Gwangju and the Honam area. Recently, however, it has been repeatedly pointed out that its glory has been somewhat tamished, and there have been numerous efforts made to restore its declining image. As a way to restore and enhance the image of the Street of Arts, it was decided to apply a soundscape to the area. As on initial step for designing the soundscape, the following questions were researched: How many kinds of sounds generated in the street were perceived by residents and passers-by\ulcorner How did people feel about the sounds\ulcorner The results were analyzed to determine which sounds would be most suitable for enhancing the image of the 'Street of Arts'.treet of Arts'.pos;.

The interaction between people and sound and the way how people consciously perceive their environment are central approach to soundscape research. In this respect, this paper aims to clarify the relationship between water-sound level and recognition region in urban area. As a passive soundscape facility, fountain is a useful way to give place such as public square, park identity and vitality. In this study, to know the optimistic distance and sound level range from fountain, sound levels due to distance were measured and subject responses were checked by questionnaire. As a result, levels from 63 dB to 67 dB were recommended by subjects and moving forward to fountain less satisfactory than backward. Moving forward 5 m and backward 5 m(total range 10 m): there was a difference in satisfaction ratio by 2,5 out of 10. The results of this study could be used for street furniture location design and P.A. system output level.

When we evaluate sound, there are various methods for noise such as A-weighted SPL(sound pressure level), NC(noise criteria), NR(noise rating) and SIL(speech interference level) etc. however, it is not sufficient for the sounds supplied to public places used in soundscape design. Consequently it is needed to develop the tool for evaluating the good acoustical environment and futhermore quantifying the effect of improvement by supplying sound sources. In this study, it was tried to analyse the sound sources applied for soundscape design using sound quality parameters. The sound sources used were natural sound artificial sound. For the sound quality parameters, Loudness(L), Sharpness(S), Fluctuation strength(FL), Tonality(T), Roughness(R), Unbiased Annoyance(UA) were used and sound quality values were compared both natural and artificial sounds, depending on the convolution of sound sources with background noise, the duration, the frequency contents and the SPL. As a result, the values of L and UA have shown to be changed comparing to the other parameters, and it is necessary to analyse the correlation with subjects' responses.
