  • The present study evaluated the SNS addiction tendency, mental health, and the student's adjustment to college life to identify the correlations between each of these independent variables on the dependent variable, the adjustment to university life of undergraduate students. Data were collected from 197 subjects in K university of G city, using a self-administered questionnaire. Mental health was negatively correlated with the adaptation to university life. A significant influence of gender and mental health on the adjustment to college life was found in this sample. These findings are expected contribute to understanding and improving the adjustment to college life of undergraduate students. Based on these findings, it will be necessary to improve mental health and multidisciplinary interventions will be needed to support the adjustment to college life in undergraduate students. In addition, these findings would contribute to the development of programs for student's adaptation to college life.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the mediating effects of self-esteem between social comparison orientation and social network service (SNS) addiction in university students. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed. The data were statistically analyzed by using the descriptive and inferential statistics. Sobel test and Bootstrap method, and Kappa squared mediation effect size measure were used to identify the mediator's significance. A convenience sample of 195 subjects was recruited from two universities in Korea. Results: The mean age of the subjects was $22.58{\pm}1.81$. The subjects showed relatively high levels of SNS addiction with a mean score of $14.33{\pm}4.80$. The overall model significantly explained 37.0% of variances in the subjects' SNS addiction after controlling gender, age, grade, major, period of SNS using, time spent on SNS per day, and times accessed SNS per day. Of the predictors, time spent on SNS per day, social comparison orientation, and self-esteem were significantly associated with SNS addiction. Self-esteem was the mediator between social comparison orientation and SNS addiction. Conclusion: When developing strategies for preventing SNS addiction, interventions for reducing time spent on SNS per day, not having upward social comparison orientation, and improving the self-esteem should be considered. These findings might provide a theoretical basis for developing effective strategies for preventing SNS addiction in university students.

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the effect of perceived parent-adolescent communication on SNS addiction tendency among high school students and to investigate the mediating effects of self-control on the relationship between above variables. 567 students who were registered in three high schools located in D city completed a questionnaire on parent-adolescent communication, SNS addiction tendency, and self-control. Structural equation models were conducted to compare the research model (complete mediating effect) and the competing model (partial mediating effect), and bootstrapping was conducted to investigate the mediating effects of self-control with SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The results are as follow: First, while the parent-adolescent communication did not directly have an effect the SNS addiction tendency, the self-control had a direct effect on the SNS addiction tendency. Second, the research model was selected as a final model which implied that parent-adolescent communication had an indirect effect on SNS addiction tendency among high school students. Third, self-control had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between parent-adolescent communication and high school students' SNS addiction tendency. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that parent-adolescent communication had an indirect effect rather than a direct effect through self-control on high school students' SNS addiction tendency. This result indicates that the SNS addiction tendency rate of high school student can be lowered, by mediating self-control. Finally, this study suggests that the implicit points on counseling methods to remedy self-control of high school students, and shortcomings and limits of this study and advice for follow-up studies all be discussed.

This study is going to offer basic resource that required to make the way that is able to reduce the anxiety with figuring out the relation between variable. Method: 213 people participated in this study is 20 to 30 age of university students who use SNS. Collecting resource period was April 4 to May 11, 2018. Analyses consisted of descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: The findings showed SNS addiction tendency and quality of sleep(r=.45, p<.000). Major Influence factor is predicted addiction tendency of SNS using time (F=21.21, p=.000) and trait-anxiety (F=23.55, p=.000). Of the highest trait-anxiety affects quality of sleep (F=24.82 p=.000). Conclusion: These findings indicate that it is necessary to develop and implement information programs and design appropriate SNS addiction prevention programs that can induce trait-anxiety and improve quality of sleep. Thus follow-up study should have diverse participants to investigate SNS addiction tendency, trait-anxiety and quality of sleep that influenced by overusing SNS.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend line through scatter diagram analysis on correlation between SNS addiction tendencies and learning attitudes, figure out the knee point influencing learning attitudes negatively in detail, and examine influence among subareas. To address the goal, study questions are formulated as follows. First, this author did screening on the data of variables measured and analyzed descriptive statistics. Second, this researcher produced the trend line by drawing a scatter diagram in order to analyze correlation between SNS addiction tendencies, withdrawal symptoms, excessive communication, and excessive time wasting, and learning attitudes exploratorily. Third, to explore correlation between self-evaluation, learning participation, and developmental attitudes, the subfactors of learning attitudes related to SNS addiction tendencies, this author drew a scatter diagram and analyzed the threshold of positive and negative correlation. To verify the study questions, the SNS addiction tendency scale and learning attitude scale were applied to 301 university students in Chungcheong area. According to the study results, first, their learning attitudes are influenced by SNS addiction tendencies, excessive communication and excessive time wasting, and they are not influenced by withdrawal symptoms that much. Second, excessive communication, a factor of SNS addiction tendencies, and self-evaluation and developmental attitudes, factors of learning attitudes, show positive correlation to some extent and indicate negative correlation after the threshold. However, excessive communication and learning participation are found to show no correlation. Third, according to the results of examining correlation with learning attitudes by dividing them into excessive communication and excessive time wasting groups with the knee point of 1.40, as the symptom of excessive communication is found more, it influences self-evaluation, learning participation, developmental attitudes, and learning attitudes more negatively in general. The result of this study is expected to provide foundational material necessary to develop educational programs to prevent undergraduates' excessive SNS use and SNS addiction which can be used in the scenes of counseling or education.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationships between fear of missing out, addictive tendencies toward social network services (SNSs), and depression in colleges. Methods : The target subjects were students in colleges across gyeongnam & busan, to whom the purpose of the study was explained and who spontaneously agreed to participate. A survey was conducted with 302 participants over 31 days from March 7, 2022, and data from 299 responses was analyzed. Results : 1. Women felt a higher fear of missing out than men. 2. Women showed greater inability to control their use of SNSs, more SNS-related disorders in daily life, and greater immersion in and tolerance of SNSs when compared to men. 3. Women were more depressed than men. 4. Positive correlations were observed between the fear of missing out and SNS-addictive tendencies, between the fear of missing out and depression, and between SNS-addictive tendencies and depression. Conclusion : A comprehensive review of these findings suggests that women had overall higher levels of isolation fear, SNS-addictive tendencies, and depression than men. Based on this, universities should provide gender-specific educational programs around these issues; this student cohort will ultimately work in healthcare, and this kind of awareness will be essential for treating patients. Considering that the current situation poses unusual challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the study's results can serve as basic data for planning educational programs in the future. Over the coming years, comprehensive and continuous education and counselling relating to the fear of missing out, SNS addiction, and depression will be urgently required.
