Atomization Characteristics of a Double Impinging F-0-0-F Type Injector with Four Streams for Liquid Rockets

  • This paper presents atomization characteristics of a double impinging F -0-0- F type injector with four streams. A phase Doppler particle analyzer was employed to measure the droplet-size and water was used as the inert simulant liquid instead of reactive propellant liquids. The droplet mean diameter (SMD) and size distribution were measured to investigate the effects of the momentum ratio and pressure drop variations. This experimental results can be used during the preliminary design stage of a impinging stream type injector for liquid rockets.

  • The correlation between the droplets size and the velocity are investigated for an intermittent spray of the pintle type fuel injector employed in a port injection gasoline engine. The analysis such as the mean droplet size, SMD, and velocity under the fixed injection period and varied fuel pressures are conducted utilizing PDPA systems. As results, the experimental data obtained, show that the larger droplet sizes. the higher velocities during the spray tip arrival time, and that at Z=70mm, r=8mm, both droplet sizes and velocities are peak. At the upstream, flow of droplets are dominated by injection pressure, which are more effected inertia force of droplets at the downstream of Z=70mm.

  • This paper describe the design and fabrication of a SMD type Wilkinson power divider for PCS basestation. It has been designed for commercial power amplifier system by HP-ADS and fabricated with the size 0.56 $\times$ 0.35 inches. As a result, the power divider was well-operated in the frequency ranges of 1.75 ∼ 1.98GHz for the application of PCS system. The power divider reveals insertion loss 0.2dB, isolation -19.8dB, amplitude balance 0.02dB, phase balance 0.5o, input and output impedance matching -20.6dB respectively.

  • The spray characteristics of emulsified fuel of W/O type has been experimentally investigated. The mixture of light oil and water by using ultrasonic energy adding system is used as the emulsified fuel. The SMD of sprayed droplet of emulsified fuel is measured by using the particle size analyzer. Major parameters of the present experimental study are the volume fraction of water in emulsified fuel, $0\sim30%$ by 5%, injection pressure, $10kg_f/cm^2\sim18kg_f/cm^2$ by $2kg_f/cm^2$, and the measurement distance, $10\sim100mm$, between injection nozzle tip and analyzer beam. Compared with light oil, the SMD of emulsified fuel is larger gradually by increasing the volume fraction of water in emulsified fuel, heightening injection pressure and increasing the spray distance. Also, In considering the fact that the pattern of drop size distribution of emulsified fuel is alike that of light oil, the real time spray in coincidence with making emulsified fuel by adding ultrasonic energy can stabilize spray pattern without modificating the injection system used by now.

  • Spray characteristics for the simplex atomizer are investigated. The atomizer was tested with kerosene which is generally used as a fuel for gas turbine engines. But it is very difficult and dangerous to measure spray performance. So water is used as a working fluid for measuring the droplet information. In this study, spray visualization was performed by using ND-Yag Laser and droplet size was measured by using PDPA system by using two different working fluid such as water and test fluid # 2 which has similar characteristics of the kerosene. The test results show that SMD of water bigger than test fluid # 2 about 5$\sim$15 mm because surface tension of water is higher by a factor of 3.   • In this study, the characteristics of high-pressure swirl injector have been studied using a commercial CFD code, STAR-CD and experiment to investigate the effect of the length of orifice and swirl port on the spray characteristics. Influences of swirl port angle and initial conditions have also been examined in terms of penetration depth and Sauter`s mean diameter. Computed results of the spray characteristics are compared with experimental results. The results show that the tangential velocity at the nozzle exit decreases, but the axial velocity increases as swirl port angle is increased. Hence, the static flow rate increases, but the initial spray angle decreases with increasing the swirl port angle. It is also shown that the values of the initial SMD used as input data for spray simulation influences the penetration depth and SMD. The spray pattern from the present numerical simulation agrees well with experimental result.

Electrical Characteristics of SMD Type Ceramic Resonators using PbTiO3 System as a Function of Electrode Radius Size (전극직경 크기에 따른 SMD형 PbTiO3계 세라믹 공진자의 전기적 특성)

  • In this study, the high frequency SMD ceramic resonators with the size of $3.7{\times}3.1{\times}0.385\textrm{mm}^3$ were fabricated using $Pb_{0.88}(La_{0.6}Nd_{0.4})_{0.08}(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})_{0.02}Ti_{0.98}O_3$ ceramics with the variations of electrode radius size. With increasing the electrode radius size, resonant resistance in third overtone mode was decreased and electromechanical coupling factor($k_{t3}$) in third overtone mode was showed constant values. Taking into consideration mechanical quality factor($Qm_{t3}$) of 5,552 and dynamic range(D.R) of 60.72dB in third overtone mode, the ceramic resonator with the electrode radius size of $\theta$1.13mm was suitable for 20MHz resonator application.

  • The objective of this experimental study is to verify atomization characteristics of emulsified fuel. The emulsified fuel made of adding the ultrasonic energy is analyzed with atomization characteristics and chemicophysics. As water contents within emulsified fuel and needle angle increase, SMD, viscosity and surface tension were analyzed. By measuring the distribution percentage of hydrogen volume by $^1H$-NMR spectrum, the proportion of aromatics and paraffins is analyzed and compared each other. The results of study is as follows. First, as water contents within emulsified fuel and needle angle of nozzle increases, SMD increases. Second, for the distribution percentage of hydrogen volume, the distribution percentage of aromatics is about 10% and the rest portion is paraffins.

  • Two measurement techniques of droplet sizing, an imaging technique(PMAS) and a phase-Doppler measurement technique (PDPA), have been compared using a water spray from a pressurized-type swirl nozzle. The result showed that SMD measured by PDPA was larger than that measured by PMAS by about 40 %. Such discrepancy of SMD could be explained by the fact that the light signal intensity used by PDPA can be biased towards larger particles. On the other hand there could be lower opportunity to capture the images of the large particles with PMAS, since the large particles could be out of sight due to their high speed.

  • Ta investigate characteristics and spray of emulsified fuet we are mixed water with diesel oil using ultrasonic energy fuel feeding system. Separation ratio of emulsified fuel was shown good condition that of water content is small and longer ultrasonic energy adding time. Viscosity of emulsified fuel increased 79% with addition to water content and surface tension increased 1.6% in comparision to pure diesel oil. The SMD of emulsified fuel adding ultrasonic energy decreased with 3% in comparision to pure diesel oil. With increasing 5, 10% water content the SMD decreased 15.6, 20.1% in comparision to pure diesel oil. The mind-explosion was investigated with 4step.
