  • Recently, with the market of smart phones slowing down, more attention is paid to wearable devices. It was suggested that 2013 was the "year of the smart watch", due to that the majority of major consumer electronics manufacturers were undertaking work on a smart watch device. However there are still many issues on the interaction and interface design of smart watches. This study reviewed related literatures and evaluated the interaction methods, interface and content design of current smart watches. Based on that, future research directions were proposed. The research results have significant meanings for the guidance of future directions of smart watch.

  • In this paper, we conducted a study on ways to not only check disaster information on smart-phone in the event of a disaster, but also simultaneously check it on wearable devices using short-range wireless communication. Wearable devices commonly used include such devices as wireless earphones, smart bands and smart-watches. Among these devices are smart-watches that allow users to view disaster information in the event of a disaster. However, because current disaster message can only check on smart-phones, research was conducted on how to deliver disaster information received from smart-phones to smart-watches. If studies such as this paper continue, we will be able to recognize disasters more efficiently in the event of a disaster and to carry out preparations for them.

  • This study aims to analyze the research trends on the civic participation in a smart city and to present implications to policy makers, industry professionals and researchers. As rapid urbanization is defining development trend of modern city, urban problems such as transportation, environment, and energy are spreading and intensifying around the city. Countries around the world are introducing smart cities to solve these urban problems and to achieve sustainable development. Recently, many countries are modifying urban planning from top-down to down-up by actively engaging citizens to participate in the urban construction process directly and indirectly. Although the construction of smart cities is being promoted in Korea to solve urban problems, awareness of smart cities and civic participation are low. In order to overcome this situation, discussions on ideas and methods that can increase civic participation in smart cities are continuously being conducted. Therefore, in this study, by collecting publication containing both 'Smart Cities' and 'Participation (Engagement)' in Scopus DB, the topics of related studies were categorized and research trends were analyzed using topic modeling. Through this study, it is expected that it can be used as evidence to understand the direction of civic participation research in smart cities and to present the direction of related research in the future.

  • Smart work, which is defined as work performed at home, satellite offices or with the smart devices to continually collaborate with the co-workers in anytime, anywhere using IT, is attracting much attention as an alternative work way to cope with the demographical changes of the low fertility and aging. Whereas some implementation cases of smart work have been considered as the success, the other cases have been reported as the failure to implement smart work practices. Nevertheless, there are few researches to identify the reasons of successful ways to adopting smart work. This study integrated the IT-based changes with the smart work practices to identify the critical success factors of smart work in individual, organization and industry levels. As the results, we found out the expected values of introduction, core elements of implementation, and industry characteristics to efficient adoption for smart work. Also, this study compared these evidences with the incumbent smart work policies. The contributions of this study is to develop the guideline to adopting smart work, the smart work implementation strategy and the improvement on the business process.

  • As the use of smart devices such as smartphones and tablets has become common, the time to start using smart devices is getting earlier, such as using smart devices from the age of one. Also, the use of smart devices by infants and toddlers is continuously increasing. Smart devices have become convenient means of acquiring pleasure and knowledge, but the side effects of addiction and overdependence are becoming issues as much as the benefits of smart devices. This study pays attention to young children's overdependence on smart devices, and focuses on the aspects of parents' perception, control, and observational behavior about smart devices, which can have a profound effect on young children. This study examines how young children's overdependence on smart devices can consequently affect children's characteristics in terms of activity, emotional sensitivity, and social aspects. In particular, this study attempts to explore that the factors influencing children's overdependence on smart devices and the results can vary depending on the moderating variables (parents' control method for children's smart device use, supervision method, and type of contents mainly used). Based on the findings, this study can provide guidelines and implications for parents on how to effectively use smart devices for their young children.

  • Smart City is highly anticipated to solve the problems of existing cities and create new added value, but there is also increasing concern about security risks. The negative view of smart city according to security risk awareness is a problem that needs to be improved in order to activate the fourth industrial revolution technology and develop smart city. This study examined risk factors in smart cities based on perceived risk and user resistance theory, and empirically analyzed the relationship with resistance attitudes. According to the empirical analysis with 288 research samples, security, social, and physical risk factors directly affect smart city resistance, while financial, performance, and privacy risk have no significant effect. In addition, it was verified that the security risk can is an antecedent factor for other risk factors, and it was confirmed that it is required to separately discuss the security and privacy risk in the smart city environment. This study shows that it is necessary to prepare policy supports for social interactions as well as security and physical safety issues in order to activate smart city by discussing the risk factors that negatively affect smart city perception from the public's point of view.

  • Smart TV is expected to take the center stage of the recent "smartization" trend in IT and consumer electronics as it performs a hub for various smart IT devices, such as smart phone, smart pad, PC, etc. It is distinct from traditional TVs or even IPTVs in the sense that it provides immersive and interactive experiences via apps downloaded through TV app store. Smart TV could serve as a new intermediary device between other smart devices and the Internet. While it started experiencing a rapid growth, little research has been conducted to understand this emerging technology in terms of its user acceptance and adoption by users. The current research attempts to fill the gap in the field by examining factors and processes for this new technology to be adopted by users. This paper draws on theories of IT acceptance and use, such as the "Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology", to investigate factors affecting "intention to use" of smart TV. The proposed research model is analyzed using the structural equation modeling approach. Findings show that such factors as innovativeness, switching cost, switching benefit, service interface, and user interface affect users' intention to use smart TV, through effort expectation, performance expectation, and social influence. Theoretical and managerial implications are discussed.

  • This study aims to investigate development directions for smart contents to support enhancing adaptive behavior skills of children with autistic disorder in elementary school. AHP survey of experts including special education teachers and directors in educational institution for disability children was performed to analyze importance weight for smart contents development necessity and effectiveness in adaptive behavior skills. And the smart contents development suitability through pre-discussion for idea generation for various development method and AHP survey with smart application development experts was evaluated. The results show that the effective and suitable adaptive behavior skills for smart contents development were understanding of languaging, time management and keeping, movement skills, wearing clothes, and personal hygiene in order of importance. Based on this study, education authorities should make an effort not to develop fragmentary educational smart contents but to support development of smart contents and service systems with better effectiveness and usability to meet demand for special education teachers and parents considering characteristics of children with autism.

  • Currently, people are paying more attention to smart home businesses. Therefore, the research on smart home system is becoming important. Smart Home App, which is an important component of smart home system, needs to consider the development of evaluation indicators for usability. In this regard, this paper takes smart home App as the object to develop the usability evaluation indicators of smart home App design. For this purpose, this study performed three rounds of survey by using the Delphi method. In the first round, 8 suitable areas were selected by collecting opinions from experts and analyzing the Content Validity Ratio, which was derived from literature review. Based on the results of the first survey, a total of 38 evaluation items were collected through prior research and user interview surveys. For the 38 collected evaluation items, 27 evaluation items have been selected by analyzing Average Value, Standard Deviation, Content Validity Ratio, Consultation and Convergence in the second and third rounds. The result of this study can be used as a guideline when evaluating the usability of smart home App design.
