  • According to evolution of technologies, many devices related to various applications were researched. The advanced driver assistance system is a famous technique effected from the evolution. The technique of driver assistance uses image recognition methods to collect exactly information around the vehicle. The computing power of driver assistance device has become more improved than in the past. However, it's difficult that processed various recognition methods at real-time. We propose new frame skip method to process various recognition methods at real-time in the limited hardware. In the previous researches, frame skip rate was set up static values, thus the number of processed frames through recognition methods was smaller. We set up the frame skip rate dynamically using a driving condition of vehicle through speed and acceleration value, in addition, the number of processed frames was maximized. The performance is improved more 32.5% than static frame skip method.

  • This study focuses on the development of the conceptual criteria which could be applied to the speed-up strategy of urban rail operation. Down town segment or not, and peak hour or not are the criteria. The author suggests that in the case of down town segment and peak hour urban rail should take the all-stop pattern, if down town segment and off peak hour, then skip-stop pattern, if not-down town segment and peak hour, the A, B skip-stop, and if not-down town segment and off peak hour, the A, B, C skip-stop. If side lines, three rail, or 2 double lines, then express train operation is recommended in the peak hour. Then this study recommends speed-up strategies of each 8 urban lines.

  • A feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effect of skip-a-day feeding program in early growing stage of male broiler chicks on the compensatory growth, and development of visceral organs during the later realimentation period. Day-old 328 male broiler chickens( Avian x Avian) were divided into control(ad libitum feeding) and skip-a-day feeding(limited feeding) treatments. Each treatment was consisted of 4 pens( replicates) of 41 birds each. Chickens on the skip-a-day program were fasted every other day during the second wk of age(8~15 d of age). During the starter period(0~4 wk), chickens were fed a commercial crumble diet. A commercial pellet diet was fed to chickens during the finishing period( 5~8 wk). Chickens were group-weighed every week, and one bird was selected from each pen to measure carcass characteristics. The skip-a-day program delayed the growth rate of male broilers up to 4 wk of age(P

  • Recently, unstructured data is rapidly being produced based on web-based services. NoSQL systems and key value stores that process unstructured data as key and value pairs are widely used in various applications. In this paper, a study was conducted on a skip list used for in-memory data management in an LSM-tree based key value store. The skip list used in the key value store is an insertion-based skip list that does not allow overwriting and processes all changes only by inserting. This behavior can support Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC), which can simultaneously process multiple read/write requests through snapshot isolation. However, since duplicate keys exist in the skip list, the performance significantly degrades due to unnecessary node visits during a list traverse. In particular, serious overhead occurs when a range query or scan operation that collectively searches a specific range of data occurs. This paper proposes a newly designed Stride SkipList to reduce this overhead. The stride skip list additionally maintains an indexing pointer for the last node of the same key to avoid unnecessary node visits. The proposed scheme is implemented using RocksDB's in-memory component, and the performance evaluation shows that the performance of SCAN operation improves by up to 350 times compared to the existing skip list for various workloads.

  • During the SI engine starting up, starting conditions directly contribute to the unburned hydrocarbon emissions in spark ignition engines. The effects of catalyst temperatures and fuel injection skip methods on HC emissions were investigated. The test was conducted on a 1.5 L, 4-cylinder, 16 valve, multipoint-port-fuel-injection gasoline engine. To understand the formation of HC emissions, HC concentration was measured in an exhaust port using a Fast Response Flame ionization Detector (FRFID). The result showed that HC emissions, which were emitted at the cold coolant and catalyst temperature, were generated much higher than those of hot coolant and catalyst temperatures. In additions, fuel injection skips reduced highly HC emissions. It is convinced that optimized fuel injection skip method according to coolant and catalyst temperatures could be applied to reduce HC emissions during the SI engine starts.

  • A fast intra skip detection algorithm based on the ratedistortion (RD) cost for an inter frame (P-slices) is proposed for H.264/AVC video encoding. In the H.264/AVC coding standard, a robust rate-distortion optimization technique is used to select the best coding mode and reference frame for each macroblock (MB). There are three types of intra predictions according to profiles. These are $16{\times}16$ and $4{\times}4$ intra predictions for luminance and an $8{\times}8$ intra prediction for chroma. For the high profile, an $8{\times}8$ intra prediction has been added for luminance. The $4{\times}4$ prediction mode has 9 prediction directions with 4 directions for $16{\times}16$ and $8{\times}8$ luma, and $8{\times}8$ chrominance. In addition to the inter mode search procedure, an intra mode search causes a significant increase in the complexity and computational load for an inter frame. To reduce the computational load of the intra mode search at the inter frame, the RD costs of the neighborhood MBs for the current MB are used and we propose an adaptive thresholding scheme for the intra skip extraction. We verified the performance of the proposed scheme through comparative analysis of experimental results using joint model reference software. The overall encoding time was reduced up to 32% for the IPPP sequence type and 35% for the IBBPBBP sequence type.

  • In recent years, the number of users who are actively express their opinions about Internet articles is more and more growing up, as the use of cyber community such as weblog or Internet discussion board increases. In fact, it is not difficult to find an article with hundreds of comments in famous Internet discussion boards. Most of the weblogs or Internet discussion boards present comments in the form of list and do not yet support even the basic operation such as searching comments. In this paper, we analysed large sets of comments in Internet discussion board named AGORA. It was found that from the result that the distribution of comment writers follows power-law. So we suppose a new search structure of comments using skip lists. The main idea of our approach is to reflect the probabilistic distribution properties of the commenters following the power-law to the data structure. Our empirical results show that the proposed method performs more efficient in searching the nodes with fewer number of comparison operations than logN, which is the theoretical time complexity of general indexed structure such as B-trees or typical skip lists.

  • H.264/AVC, a recently developed video compression standard, is used for various applications because of its high coding efficiency. Variable block mode plays important role in the high coding efficiency of H.264/AVC but involves significant computations to select the optimal mode. In this paper, a fast mode decision method for H.264/AVC P slices is presented. To reduce computations for mode decision, the proposed mode decision method skips the mode decision processes for small partition modes using distortions of SKIP mode and intra16x16 mode. The experimental results show that the proposed method can reduce encoding time up to 66.41% while maintaining compression efficiency.
