Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) where all users share the entire time and frequency resource has paid attention as one of the key technologies to enhance the spectral efficiency and the total throughput. Nevertheless, as the number of users and SIC error increase, the inter-user interference and the residual interference due to the SIC error also increase, resulting in performance degradation. In order to mitigate the performance degradation, we propose grouping-based NOMA system. In the proposed scheme, all users are divided into two groups based on the distance between the BS and each user, where one utilizes the first half of the bandwidth and the other utilizes the rest in the orthogonal manner. On the other hand, users in each group share the spectrum in the non-orthogonal manner. Grouping users can reduce both the inter-user interference and residual interference due to the SIC error, so it can outperform conventional NOMA system, especially in case that the number of users and the SIC error increase. Based on that, we also present the hybrid operation of the conventional and the proposed NOMA systems. In numerical results, the total throughput of the proposed NOMA systems is compared with that of the conventional NOMA systems with regard to the number of users and SIC error. It is confirmed that the proposed NOMA system outperforms the conventional NOMA system as the number of users and the SIC error increase.

In this paper, we propose a new computationally efficient joint iterative multi-input multi-output (MIMO) detection scheme using a soft interference cancellation and minimum mean squared-error (SIC-MMSE) method. The critical computational burden of the SIC-MMSE scheme lies in the multiple inverse operations of the complex matrices. We find a new way which requires only a single matrix inversion by utilizing the Taylor series expansion of the matrix, and thus the computational complexity can be reduced. The computational complexity reduction increases as the number of antennas is increased. The simulation results show that our method produces almost the same performances as the conventional SIC-MMSE with reduced computational complexity.

How well the self-interference cancellation (SIC) technique performs is a primary issue in realizing an in-band full-duplex (FD) wireless communication system. One factor affecting its performance is channel estimation error on the self-interference channel. We propose a new analog SIC scheme which is robust to channel estimation error. It uses phase rotators in the radio frequency (RF) chain. We also derive closed-form equations for the residual self-interference of the proposed and the conventional schemes. The analytical and numerical results show that the residual self-interference under the proposed SIC scheme is less than that using the conventional scheme, even though channel estimation error is present.

NOMA (Non-orthogonal multiple access) system is the most promising multiple access technology to satisfy the requirements of the spectral efficiency and the performance of 5G cellular systems. NOMA system simultaneously serves multiple users in the power domain, and adapts SIC (Successive interference cancellation) at the receivers to cancel the interference from multiple users. Since in a realistic wireless fading channel the perfect SIC is impossible, the study of the effect of the imperfect SIC to a NOMA system is necessary. This paper considers a cooperative NOMA system with SIC error, and the performance of the system is analytically derived. And the optimum power allocation to minimize the system performance is obtained. When the transmit power is fixed, the distances between a base station and the relay is considered for different SIC errors. The derived analytical results are verified through Monte Carlo simulation, and the results are perfectly matched.

In this paper, we analyze co-channel interference cancellation performance to be generated in multi-hop military communication system. First, remove interference using zero-forcing (ZF) and minimum mean square error (MMSE) scheme as interference cancellation methods, and then obtain additional diversity gain and improve interference cancellation performance by applying successive interference cancellation (SIC). We consider Rayleigh fading channel and system performance is analyzed as respect of bit error probability. From simulation results, we confirm MMSE improves significantly BER performance than ZF in multi-hop wireless network environment. It is also confirmed ZF and MMSE schemes applying SIC algorithm have better performance comparing to the existing schemes. Therefore, MMSE-SIC method can provide more reliable signal transmission in the multi-hop military communication system.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a attractive modulation scheme for high data rate transmission in frequency-selective channels. However, the time selectivity of wireless channel introduces intercarrier interference (ICI), and consequently degrades system performance. In this paper, we first propose a novel recursive algorithm for minimum mean squared error (MMSE) with successive interference cancellation (SIC). The proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the complexity of the MMSE-SIC scheme and achieve the same performance when optimal ordering is known. Also, the further reduced scheme of the proposed algorithm can be developed based on ICI properties, while preserving performance.

And we have compared its BER performance with SIC's(Successive Interference Cancellation) and with PIC's(Parallel Interference Cancellation), which are the representative schemes in the subtractive interference cancellation. From the results, it is shown that PlC or HIC is effective for high data-rate users and SIC of HIC for low data-rate users to eliminate the interference. Regardless of the data rate, it is reasonable to use the HIC structure for WCDMA system to satisfy all of users' services. The reason is that the SIC scheme in front of HIC can guarantee the performance of low power users to cancel the serious interference caused by the high power users, while PIC in the rear of it can guarantee the performance of high power users to cancel the interference caused by the low power users.

As the number of mobile devices has been increasing tremendously, system capacity should be enlarged in future next generation communication, such as the fifth-generation (5G) and beyond 5G (B5G) mobile networks. For such future networks, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been considered as promising multiple access technology. In this paper, to reduce both latency and complexity in existing NOMA, we propose non-successive interference cancellation (SIC) NOMA with asymmetric binary pulse amplitude modulation (2PAM), nearly without bit-error rate (BER) loss. First, we derive the closed form of BER expressions for non-SIC NOMA with asymmetric 2PAM, especially under Rayleigh fading channels. Then, it is shown that the BER performance of the stronger channel user who is supposed to perform SIC in conventional NOMA can be nearly achieved by the proposed non-SIC NOMA with asymmetric 2PAM, especially without SIC. Furthermore, we also show that the BER performance of the weaker channel user in conventional NOMA can be more closely achieved by the proposed non-SIC NOMA with asymmetric 2PAM. These BERs are shown to be achieved over the part of the power allocation range, which is consistent with the NOMA principle of user fairness. As a result, the non-SIC NOMA scheme with asymmetric 2PAM could be considered as a promising NOMA scheme toward next generation communication.
Multiuser detection (MUD) and channel estimation techniques in space-division multiple-access aided orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing systems recently has received intensive interest in receiver design technologies. The maximum likelihood (ML) MUD that provides optimal performance has the cost of a dramatically increased computational complexity. The minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) MUD exhibits poor performance, although it achieves lower computational complexity. With almost the same complexity, an MMSE with successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme achieves a better bit error rate performance than a linear MMSE multiuser detector. In this paper, hybrid ML-MMSE with SIC adaptive multiuser detection based on the joint channel estimation method is suggested for signal detection. The simulation results show that the proposed method achieves good performance close to the optimal ML performance at low SNR values and a low computational complexity at high SNR values.
