혼합기의 유동과 점화특성이 기관성능에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Mixture Flow and Ignition Characteristics on the Engine Performance)

  • Lean burn combustion is an important concept for improving the fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. However, the lean burning is associated with increased cycle-to-cycle combustion variations due to the ignition instabilities and redu- ced flame propagation rates. Engine stability under lean mixture conditions could be improved by increasing flame speed through enhanced flow characteristics and by securing ignitability with improvement of ignition systems. The effects of flow motion and ignition characteristics on the combustion performances were investigated in a 4-valve SI engine. Flow motions of tumble-swirl were varied with a swirl control valve attached at the inlet ports, while ignition energy and its distribution were controlled in a high -frequency ignition system by changing spark duration and spark frequency. The improvement of lean burn performance by the optimum flow motion and ignition characteristics is discussed.

예연소실 점화플러그의 화염가시화와 화염전파특성 (Flame Visualization and Flame Characteristics of Spark Plug with Pre-ignition Chamber)

  • New concept spark plug was developed to study its influence on the combustion characteristics of SI engine. It has pre-ignition chamber at the lower end of spark plug and flame hole, in which fresh mixture gas can be put in through the flame hole without any fuel supply system. This spark plug was tested in a single cylinder engine dynamometer for different air fuel ratio to measure the fuel consumption rate, emission gases, and MBT timing. And constant volume combustion chamber was made to understand flame characteristics of spark plug. New spark plug induced fast burn compared to the conventional spark plug and its effects were increased in lean air fuel ratio. Pre-ignition chamber spark plug with 5 holes which had adjusted size was more stable and effective in combustion performance than pre-ignition chamber spark plug with 1 hole. And its effects showed larger differences in lean air fuel ratio than stoichiometric condition. Flame kernel and flame growth process of conventional spark plug and pre-ignition chamber spark plug studied by flame visualization of schlieren method.

SI 기관의 공회전시 연소 안정성 향상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Combustion Stability for SI Engine at Idle Operation)

  • In the SI engine, the improvement of combustion stability is important not only for the fuel consumption rate but also for the emission control at idling of engine. Thus the engine speed fluctuation at idle operation mainly comes from cyclic variation of combustion in the SI engine. In this syudy, the improvement of combustion stability for the SI engine at idle condition by the cooling water temperature, duty ratio of ISC, spark ignition timing as well as the reducement of the harmful exhaust gas emission was discussed.

가솔린 기관의 도시성능 예측을 위한 시뮬레이션: GT-POWER를 이용한 경우 (Simulation for the Prediction of Indicated Performances of a Gasoline Engine Using GT-POWER)

  • 향후 박용기관의 일정 부분은 LNG 또는 합성가스를 사용한 Gas Engine으로의 이행이 예상되고 있으며 이에 대한 선행연구로서 SI기관의 시뮬레이션에 대한 연구가 요구된다. SI기관의 도시성능 예측을 위하여 상용 성능해석 소프트웨어인 GT-POWER를 이용한 모델링을 시도하였다. 이를 위해 흡 배기 계통의 모델링은 기존 연구에서 최적화된 모델링을 적용하였다. 연소과정 모델링과 열전달과정 모델링에 있어서는 현장에서 가장 적용이 용이한 모델인 SI Wiebe 연소모델과 Modified Woschni 열전달 모델을 적용하였다. 여러 운전조건에서 크랭크 각에 따른 연소실 압력 변화와 최고압력 및 도시평균유효압력 등의 계산결과를 실험결과와 비교한 결과 양자가 잘 일치함을 확인하였다.

SI 기관에 있어서 사이클 시뮬레이션에 의한 성능예측에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Prediction of Performance due to Cycle Simulation Model in Spark Ignition Engine)

  • Relations of each factor affected by emissions and the prediction of performance have been analyzed numerically by cycle simulation in the Spark Ignition Engine. Through theoretical analysis and experiments, the results are obtained as below. The calculated results and the experimental ones are almost highly agreeable on cycle simulation model, exhaust gas analysis and efficiency for processes in cylinder. Therefore this model is proved appropriate and can be useful for optimum design of Spark Ignition Engines on parametric studies. It is reaffirmed that the Wiebe's function is suitable for predicting Combustion Ration in Spark Ignition Engines. On parametric studies, it is found that optimum conditions whose density of emissions are lower and efficiency is maximum within propriety value are crankangle ATDC $15^\circ-20^\circ$, 2400 rpm. A/F=16 in this experiment.

  • Liquefied petroleum gas and compressed natural gas haven been regarded as promising alternative fuels because of no smoke, and they are also clean fuel for spark-ignited engine. In spark-ignited direct-injection engine, direct injection technology can increase engine volumetric efficiency significantly and also reduce necessity of throttle valve. This study designed combustion chamber equipped with visualization system. To improve ignition probability, the study designed to help three types of impingement-walls to form mixture. In doing so, LPG CNG-air mixture could be easily formed after spray-wall impingement and ignition probability increased too. The results of this study could contribute as basic resources of spark-ignited direct injection LPG and CNG engine design and optimization extensively.

  • In an automotive spark ignition engine, it is important to form the proper mixture (air/fuel) on each driving condition for developing the stabilizing combustion and exhaust characteristics. Since most of supply fuel si attached on the inside wall of the intake manifold for unadequate nonuniformity of fuel distribution to each cylinder and mixture variation. Also it affects engine performance variation and causes noises and vibration. In this study, we verified the effect of the mixture variation which is caused by fuel liquid film in the intake manifold on combustion characteristics and engine performance.

수소 내연기관의 흡기 냉각 방법에 따른 최고 출력 향상에 관한 연구 (Effects of Intake Gas Mixture Cooling on Enhancement of The Maximum Brake Power in a 2.4 L Hydrogen Spark-ignition Engine)

  • 수소는 동일한 공연비(AF ratio, Air-to-fuel ratio)에서 가솔린에 비해 점화에너지가 현격히 낮기 때문에, 희박한 혼합기 조건에서도 안정적으로 연소할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있어 연소를 기반으로하는 내연기관에도 적용이 가능하다. 그러나 일부 연소조건에서 역화(Back-fire) 혹은 조기 점화(Pre-ignition)와 같은 이상 연소가 발생하기 쉬운 문제를 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 엔진의 흡기(Intake gas mixture)를 구성하는 신기(Fresh air)와 수소 연료를 각각 냉각하여 공급함으로써, 역화를 최소화하여 최고 출력을 향상하는 연구를 진행하였다. 2.4 L급 전기점화(SI, Spark-ignition)엔진이 사용되었으며 수소는 포트분사 방식(PFI, Port Fuel Injection)으로 공급하였다. 신기의 온도는 터보차저가 장착된 상황에서 인터쿨러(Intercooler)를 이용하여 제어하였으며, 수소의 냉각은 칠러의 냉매와 열교환기를 통하여 직접 냉각 후 공급하였다. 그 결과 신기의 온도를 10~20 ℃가량 냉각시킬 경우 최고출력이 약 6.5~8.6 % 가량 향상되는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 수소를 -6 ℃까지 냉각하여 공급할 경우 마찬가지로 약 7.7 % 가량의 최고 출력을 향상할 수 있었다.

  • The effects of spark timing and exhaust valve timing change on exhaust gas temperature during cold start period of an SI engine are studied through engine bench tests. The exhaust gas temperature increases when the spark timing or valve timing are retarded individually, due to late combustion or slow flame speed. Therefore, exhaust gas temperature shows a large increase when the two timings are retarded simultaneously. However, it is considered that combustion stability during cold start deteriorated under these retarded conditions. To increase exhaust gas temperature for fast warmup of catalysts while maintaining combustion stability, an optimal condition for spark and valve timing retard should be applied for the cold start period.

수소 연료를 적용한 소형 2행정 엔진 성능 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Performance Characteristics of a Small-Sized Hydrogen-Fuelled Two-Stroke Engine)

  • 수소 연료를 적용한 2행정 기반의 소형 SI 엔진의 성능 특성에 관하여 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여 주로 모형 항공기용으로 사용되는 210 cc급 엔진을 비롯하여 소형 동력계 및 수소연료와 엔진 오일 공급을 위한 장치를 포함한 실험을 구성하였다. 우선 가솔린 연료를 공급한 기본 상태의 엔진 출력과 토크를 측정해 보았으며, 최대 6 kW 수준의 출력을 확인하였다. 이후 수소 연료를 공급하면서 성능 시험을 수행하였는데, 수소의 경우에는 공기과잉율 기준 공연비가 낮아질수록 즉, 연료 공기 혼합기가 농후해 질수록 역화 현상이 발생하여 출력에 제한이 생길 뿐만 아니라 엔진 하드웨어에도 치명적인 영향을 줌을 확인하였다. 따라서 공기과잉율을 기준 수치 이상에서 엔진을 운전하며 안정적인 수준의 연소를 통하여 가솔린 성능의 절반 수준인 최대 3 kW 의 출력 성능이 나옴을 최종 확인하였다.
