Over the course of the last 4-5 years, India's northeastern region have widely used Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks to construct load-bearing masonry structures. The aim of this investigation is to examine the shear characteristics of AAC masonry triplet assemblage strengthened by using two techniques, i.e., the bead joint (BJ) and the bed-head joint (BHJ) technique. Three unique variations of wire mesh were involved in the strengthening method. Furthermore, three strengthening configurations were used to strengthen each of the three wire mesh variations and the two-strengthening method, i.e. (-), L and (Z) configuration. The unreinforced and reinforced triplet masonry wallets were tested under direct shear test. From the results obtained, the 'BJ'triplet masonry wallets observed an enhanced in shear strength of about 2.23% to 23.33 % whereas the 'BHJ' triplet masonry wallets observed an enhanced in shear strength of about 22.92% to 50.69%. The "BHJ" strengthening method effectively enhance the shear strength of the triplet masonry wallets compared to the "BJ" and the "UR" wallets with an increase in capacity as the wire mesh strength increases. Furthermore, in terms of the strengthening configuration, the (Z) configuration performs better, followed by the (L) and (-) configuration demonstrating the strengthening configuration effectiveness.
In this paper, cyclic loading tests on composite frame inner joints of steel-reinforced recycled concrete (SRRC) column-steel beam were conducted. The main objective of the test was to obtain the shear behavior and analyze the shear strength of the joints. The main design parameters in the test were recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement percentage and axial compression ratio. The failure process, failure modes, hysteresis curves and strain characteristics of the joints were obtained, and the influences of design parameters on the shear strength of the joints have been also analysed in detail. Results show that the failure modes of the joints area are typical shear failure. The shear bearing capacity of the joints maximally decreased by 10.07% with the increase in the RCA replacement percentage, whereas the shear bearing capacity of the joints maximally increased by 16.6% with the increase in the axial compression ratio. A specific strain analysis suggests that the shear bearing capacity of the joints was mainly provided by the three shear elements of the recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) diagonal compression strut, steel webs and stirrups of the joint area. According to the shear mechanism and test results, the calculation formulas of the shear bearing capacity of the three main shear elements were deduced separately. Thus, the calculation model of the shear bearing capacity of the composite joints considering the adverse effects of the RCA replacement percentage was established through a superposition method. The calculated values of shear strength based on the calculation model were in good agreement with the test values. It indicates that the calculation method in this study can reasonably predict the shear bearing capacity of the composite frame inner joints of SRRC column-steel beam.
An alternative design method for interior flat plate-column connections subjected to punching shear and unbalanced moment was developed. Since the slab-column connections are severely damaged by flexural cracking before punching shear failure, punching shear was assumed to be resisted mainly by the compression zone of the slab critical section. Considering the interaction with the flexural moment of the slab, the punching shear strength of the compression zone was evaluated based on the material failure criteria of concrete subjected to multiple stresses. The punching shear strength was also used to evaluate the unbalanced moment capacity of the slab-column connections. For verification, the proposed strength model was applied to existing test specimens subjected to direct punching shear or combined punching shear and unbalanced moment. The results showed that the proposed method predicted the strengths of the test specimens better than current design methods in ACI 318 and Eurocode 2.

In current design codes, minimum shear reinforcement is required for reinforced concrete flexural members, and the use of steel fiber reinforced concrete is permitted to replace the minimum shear reinforcements. In the present study, to estimate the effects of shear reinforcements and fibers on shear strength, simply supported beams were tested under transverse loading. The test results showed that the shear strength was significantly increased by the use of fibers. Particularly, the effect of fiber reinforced concrete was pronounced when high-strength concrete was used. The performance of fiber reinforced concrete for minimum shear reinforcement was evaluated using results of the present study and existing tests.
Natural soil is composed of particles of various sizes, and the shear behavior which is a kind of mechanical behavior of the soil is affected by the particle size distribution. In addition, since the natural soil contains a large mixture of coarse and fine grained soil, it is difficult to clearly understand the shear behavior of the soil. Therefore, a ring shear test was conducted on sandy soils that has various particle size distribution in order to identify the effect of the distribution on shear characteristics of soils. At this time, sand and silt were used for coarse and fine grained soils, respectively, to make sandy soils by changing the silt content. Also the water was supplied during the test to confirm shear characteristics of sandy soils with various particle size distributions. The result shows that the shear strength increases as the silt content increases, and the strength decreases as the silt content increases over the sand. Besides, residual shear strength gradually decreases because of the silt content when the water is supplied.
A series of direct shear tests were implemented on three different types of specimens (i.e., clean Perth sand, sand containing 10, 20 and 30% bentonite, sand containing 1, 3 and 5% slag, and sand containing 10, 20 and 30% bentonite with increasing percentages of added slag (1%, 3% and 5%). This paper focuses on the shear stress characteristics of clean sand and sand mixtures. The samples were tested under different three normal stresses (100, 150 and 200 kPa) and three curing periods of no curing time, 7 and 14 days. It was observed that the shear stresses of clean sand and mixtures were increased with increasing normal stresses. In addition, the use of slag has improved the shear strength of the sand-slag mixtures; the shear stresses rose from 128.642 kPa in the clean sand at normal stress of 200 kPa to 146.89 kPa, 154 kPa and 161.14 kPa when sand was mixed with 1%, 3% and 5% slag respectively and tested at the same normal stress. Internal friction angle increased from $32.74^{\circ}$ in the clean sand to $34.87^{\circ}$, $37.12^{\circ}$ and $39.4^{\circ}$ when sand was mixed with 1%, 3% and 5% slag respectively and tested at 100, 150, and 200 kPa normal stresses. The cohesion of sand-bentonite mixtures increased from 3.34 kPa in 10% bentonite to 22.9 kPa, 70.6 kPa when sand was mixed with 20% and 30% bentonite respectively. All the mixtures of clean sand, different bentonite and slag contents showed different behaviour; some mixtures exhibited shear stress more than clean sand whereas others showed less than clean sand. The internal friction angle increased, and cohesion decreased with increasing curing time.

This study was aimed to see the effect of chemical grout on fresh granite joint shear strength. The grouting chemical used in this study was composed of 25% water glass. Direct shear tests were performed on the chemical filled joints, which had been made artificially with granite. The test results show that chemical grouted rock jonts have markedly reduced shear strength comparing with the ungrouted fresh joints and they sheared within chemical grout before the rock to rock contact had been established, while the ungrouted joint sheared between rock surfaces from the beginning of shear deformation. With chemical grouted joints the shear stress slowly reached its maximum without showing distinct peak shear strength. Therefore the shear stiffness of joints were decreased with increasing thickness of grout. but the shear strain at failure was increased with it.
Direct shear tests have been initiated to understand the characteristics of joints which crucially affect the stability of rock mass. In this research, numerical approach in direct shear tests has been initiated using 3DEC on the basis of 3D distinct element method. Normal loads were altered in four different levels on artificial joint tests depending on the sawtooth angle and strengths on constant normal stress conditions, measuring the peak shear strength according to the direct shear tests under laboratory condition. Also results obtained from mechanical properties through laboratory test were used to perform numerical modeling, and shear strength obtained from the modeling was used to compare with laboratory direct shear test. As a result numerical analysis from distinct element method can simulate well on the shear behavior of rockmass.

This paper presents the shear capacities of hollow slab with plate and octagonal pillar type hollow sphere. Recently, the interest in precast hollow slab system for buildings is growing up according to the demand for high quality control and the increase in slab thickness. A hollow slab system is widely known as one of the effective slab system which can reduce self-weight of slab. However, hollow slabs are vulnerable to the deterioration in the shear strength due to the decrease of concrete at slab web which resists shear. Especially, in case of precast hollow slabs, it has joint surface between precast concrete slab modules along transverse axis of slab, and shear failure, that is caused by cracks at joints, has to be prevented. Therefore, in this study, shear capacity of the I-slab system is evaluated by 3-points-supported shear test along the longitudinal and transverse axis of slab specimen. Test results showed that I-slab had enough shear strength compared to theoretical shear strength even if it included the joint surfaces.

Thin perforated Steel Plate Shear Walls (SPSWs) are among the most common types of seismic energy dissipation systems to protect the main boundary components of SPSWs from fatal fractures in the high-risk zones. In this paper, the cyclic behavior of the different circular hole patterns under cyclic loading is reported. Based on the experimental results, it can be concluded that a change in the perforation pattern of the circular holes leads to a change in the locations of the fracture tendency over the web plate, especially at the plate-frame interactions. Accordingly, the cyclic responses of the tested specimens were simulated by finite element method using the ABAQUS package. Likewise, perforated shear panels with a new perforation pattern obtained by implementing Topology Optimization (TO) were proposed. It was found that the ultimate shear strength of the specimen with the proposed TO perforation pattern was higher than that of the other specimens. In addition, theoretical equations using the Plate-Frame Interaction (PFI) method were used to predict the shear strength and initial stiffness of the considered specimens. The theoretical results showed that the proposed reduced coefficients relationships cannot accurately predict the shear strength and initial stiffness of the considered perforated shear panels. Therefore, the reduced coefficients should be adopted in the theoretical equations based on the obtained experimental and numerical results. Finally, with the results of this study, the shear strength and initial stiffness of these types of perforated shear panels can be predicted by PFI method.
