  • In the multi-stage shape drawing process, the most important aspect for the economy is the correct design of the various drawing stage. For most of the products commonly available round or square materials can be used as initial material. However, special products should be pre-rolled. This study proposes a process design method of multi-stage shape drawing process for producing cross roller guide. Firstly, a standard classification of shape drawing process is suggested based on the requirement of pre-rolling process. And a design method is proposed to design the intermediate die shape. The process design method is applied to design the multi-stage shape drawing process for producing cross roller guide. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed design method is verified by FE-analysis and shape drawing experiment.

  • The multi-stage shape drawing is used to obtain long shaped products with high levels of dimensional accuracy and quality. It is important to design the cross sectional shapes of the intermediate passes to meet the required dimensional accuracy of the final product in the multi-stage shape drawing. Until now, the cross sectional shapes of the intermediate passes have been designed by the experiences. It is still remained unsolved problem to design the cross sectional shapes of intermediate pass drawing dies in the multi-pass shape drawing. In this study, a new technique is proposed to design the cross sectional shapes of intermediate passes. The proposed method is applied to a multi-stage shape drawing for a LM-guide which is one of the representative shape drawing products. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, FE-simulation and experiments have been carried out. The dimensional accuracy of the proposed method is compared with that of the conventional shape drawing process designed by the industrial engineers.

  • Measures are very useful tools for comparing the shape variability in statistical shape analysis. For examples, the Procrustes statistic(PS) is isolated measure, and the mean Procrustes statistic(MPS) and the root mean square measure(RMS) are overall measures. But these measures are very subjective, complicated and moreover these measures are not statistical for comparing the shape variability. Therefore we need to study some tests. It is well known that the Hotelling's $T^2$ test is used for testing shape variability of two independent samples. And for testing shape variabilities of several independent samples, instead of the Hotelling's $T^2$ test, one way analysis of variance(ANOVA) can be applied. In fact, this one way ANOVA is based on the balanced samples of equal size which is called as BANOVA. However, If we have unbalanced samples with unequal size, we can not use BANOVA. Therefore we propose the unbalanced analysis of variance(UNBANOVA) for testing shape variabilities of several independent samples of unequal size.

  • In this study, the relationship between the shape of a passenger airbag and the possibility of injury is analyzed using the Taguchi method. The optimal shape combination is proposed for a design guideline that can reduce the possibility of injury to the dummy. The airbag FE model for analysis is obtained using a CAD system that can change the shape through several independent variables. The widths of the left / right, top / bottom, and back / forth direction of the airbag shape are set as the design factors, and the effect of the combination injury probability according to the shape is analyzed. The minimum geometric combinations are obtained using the orthogonal array method. The signal to noise ratio is calculated and the optimal shape combination is obtained through sensitivity analysis. The obtained optimal shape combination is compared with the possibility of injury of the initial airbag shape to confirm improved airbag performance.

  • Experimental studies on the behaviors of box-shape steel reinforced concrete (SRC) composite beams were conducted. Seven 1:3 scale model composite beams were tested to failure. Each of the beams was simply supported at the ends and two concentrated loads were applied at the one-third span and two-thirds span respectively. Experimental results indicate that the flexural strength can be enhanced when the ratio of flexural reinforcements and flange thickness of the shape steel are increased; the shear strength is enhanced with increase of web thickness of the shape steel. Insignificant effects of concrete in the box-shape steel are found on improving the flexural strength and shear strength of the box-shape SRC composite beams, thus concrete inside the box-shape steel can be saved, and the weight of the SRC beams can be decreased. Shear studs can strengthen the connection and co-work effects between the shape steel and the concrete and enhance the shear strength, but stud design for the composite beams should be further improved. Formulas for flexural and shear strength of the composite beams are proposed, and the calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental results. In general, the box-shape SRC composite beam is a kind of ductile member, and suitable for extensive engineering application.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data necessary for the development of clothing that can improve the satisfaction of body shape of elderly men by examining subjective characteristics and characteristics of perception type of older men's body shape. Using the Q methodology, I investigated and analyzed the process of formation and main characteristics of subjectivity of various types of recognition that elderly men express about their body shape. There were four types of perception of body shape in elderly men: flat hip and bird legs skinny body, back bent and abdominal obese body, thick neck and upper body development body, forward cervical neck and protruding abdomen obese body. The actual body shape of elderly men was classified according to the bust, waist circumference, hip circumference, and body part angle. But recognition body shape of elderly men was classified by visual factors like the abdomen, the angle of the neck, the inclination of the back, the slope of the waist, and the degree of obesity. It is necessary to consider the trend of silver fashion which is increasing in demand. In addition, it is necessary to develop clothing patterns of comfortable fit through ergonomic study on the physical characteristics of older men. Consideration should be given to the design and pattern that can reduce the difference between the ideal body shape and the body shape recognized by older men.

  • Korean Sign Language (KSL) is a communication method for the Deaf in Korea, and hand shape is one of important elements in sign language. In this paper, we developed a KSL hand shape editor to simply compose hand shape and connect it to a database. We can edit hand shape by a graphical user interface (GUI) on 3D virtual reality environment. Hand shape codes are connected to a sign word editor to synthesize sign motion and to decrease total amount of KSL data.

  • We deal with a sensitivity analysis of an optimal shape control problem for the stationary Navier-Stokes system. A two-dimensional channel flow of an incompressible, viscous fluid is examined to determine the shape of a bump on a part of the boundary that minimizes the viscous drag. By using the material derivative method and adjoint variables for a shape sensitivity analysis, we derive the shape gradient of the design functional for the model problem.

  • Two kinds of blank shapes, optimum and square, are adopted to investigate formbility. Optimum blank shape is determined to construct an L-shape cup with uniform height and without flange part. For this purpose , rigid-plastic FEM analysis is applied with backward tracing technique. Maximum cup detph and strain distribution are measured experimetally for the products of the two kinds of blank shapes, which are optimum and square. It is confirmed that deeper cup without severe thickness reduction can be obtained fro the optimum shape.

  • A total of 114 extracted human mandibular first molars were used to study the configuration of the floor of the chamber. The specimens were ground and the pulp chamber was examined with a magnifier and explored with sharp explorer. The study showed the shape of the pulp chamber, number of root canals, and the type of canal orifice. The results were as follows; 1. In so far as observing the shape of the pulp chamber of the teeth, 58.8% of the teeth were square, 34.2% were triangle and 7.0% were ovoid shape. 2. 58.8% of the specimens have 4 root canal orifices, 34.2% have 3 root canal orifices, 7.0% have 2 root canal orifices. 3. 41.2% of the specimens show 'H' shape, 17.6% show 'Square' shape, 31.6% show 'T' shape, 2.0% show 'reverse-T' shape and 7.0% show 'I' shape.
