Current Internet uses HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) as an application layer protocol and TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) as a transport layer protocol to provide web service. SCTP (Stream Control Transmission Protocol) is a recently proposed transport protocol with very similar congestion control mechanisms as TCP, except the initial congestion window during the slow start phase. In this paper, we present a mathematical model of object transfer latency during the slow start phase for HTTP over SCTP and compare with the latency of HTTP over TCP. Validation of the model using experimental result shows that the mean object transfer latency for HTTP over SCTP during the slow start phase is less than that for HTTP over TCP by 11%.
The current multihome-aware protocols (like stream control transmission protocol (SCTP) or parallel TCP for concurrent multipath data transfer (CMT) are not designed for high-capacity and large-latency networks; they often have performance problems transferring large data files over shared long-distance wide area networks. It has been shown that SCTP-CMT is more sensitive to receive buffer (rbuf) constraints, and this rbuf-blocking problem causes considerable throughput loss when multiple paths are used simultaneously. In this research paper, we demonstrate the weakness of SCTP-CMT rbuf constraints, and we then identify that rbuf-blocking problem in SCTP multihoming is mostly due to its loss-based nature for detecting network congestion. We present a simulation-based performance comparison of FAST TCP versus SCTP in high-speed networks for solving a number of throughput issues. This work proposes an end-to-end transport layer protocol (i.e., FAST TCP multihoming as a reliable, delaybased, multihome-aware, and selective ACK-based transport protocol), which can transfer data between a multihomed source and destination hosts through multiple paths simultaneously. Through extensive ns-2 simulations, we show that FAST TCP multihoming achieves the desired goals under a variety of network conditions. The experimental results and survey presented in this research also provide an insight on design decisions for the future high-speed multihomed transport layer protocols.
최근 SCTP(Stream Control Transmission Protocol)는 TCP/UDP 이후의 차세대 수송계층 프로토콜로서 주목 받고 있다.

In this paper, we propose an analysis model for the performance of channel error probability in Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) using Markov model. In this model it is assumed that the compressor and decompressor work in Unidirectional Mode. And the average throughput of SCTP protocol is obtained by finding the throughputs of when the initial channel state is good or bad.

In this paper, an analysis has been done on the performance of SCTP header compression by using Robust Reader Compression (ROHC)[1] method. And it is assumed that the operating mode for ROHC is unidirectional mode (U-Mode) and the possible states are IR and SO states. The throughput of SCTP packets in wireless link and the impact of size of W-LSB encoding window on throughput are discussed.
HTTP is one of the most widely used protocols of the WWW. Currently it uses TCP as the transport layer protocol to provide reliability. The HTTP uses separate TCP connection for each file request and adds unnecessary head-of-line blocking overhead for the file retrieval. The web application is short sized and affected by the increased handover latency of TCP in wireless environment. SCTP has attractive features such as multi-streaming and multi-homing. SCTP's multi-streaming and multi-homing avoid head-of-line blocking problem of TCP and reduce handover latency of TCP in wired and wireless environment. Mean response time is the important measure in most web application. In this paper, we present the comparison of mean response time between HTTP over SCTP with that of HTTP over TCP in wired and wireless environments using NS-2 simulator. We measured mean response time for varying packet loss rate, bandwidth, RTT, and the number of web objects in wired environment and mean response time and packet loss rate for varying moving speed and region size in wireless environment. Our experimental result shows that SCTP reduces the mean response time of TCP based web traffic.

Recently the use of wireless network increases according to it solves the hand-off and with path loss, pading, noise etc of wireless network the research for transmission error improvement is developed. TCP and SCTP of standard where it guarantees the reliability of wire network apply in wireless network the congestion control, flow control mechanism used it decreases the efficiency of data transfer throughputs. In this paper, It mixes SCTP and SNOOP for SCTP apply on wireless network, to improve BS(Basic Station) operation processes when the transmission error occurs in wireless network. BS send ZWP(Zero Window Probe) to MN(Mobile Node) when the transmission error occurs so, check path and status and update RWND and error status checked. It selects the new path, send ZWA(Zero Window Advertisement) to FH(Fixed Host) and the prevents call to congestion control or flow control and it does to make wait status standing. Continuously of data transfer after the connection of wireless network is stabilized, it make increase about 10% the transmission throughput of data.

Recently, the qualities of the call and QoS of data service in mobile wireless IP networks inclusive of internet wired networks are very challenging issues. IntServ, DiffServ and MPLS model for supporting QoS in wired networks are representative models which are investigated generally up to now. While, MIPv4(Mobile IPv4) and MIPv6 are proposed to support mobility management for mobile wireless internet networks. But, MIPv4 and MIPv6 based UDP and TCP/IP protocol have many issues to be solved like efficient QoS and frequent handover management. In this paper, we propose a efficient management platform to support seamless data services and end-to-end QoS management in IP-based wireless mobility environments using transport layer protocol, SCTP which support multi-homing and multi-streaming. We used SCTP protocol and IntServ technology for end-to-end communications to support multi-homing and seamless QoS management in the IP-based mobile wireless networks.

Generally an increasing number of recent applications have found TCP too limiting. There are some characteristics in the transmission of document and binary data which some transmission delay are tolerant but the content must completely be transferred. However voice signals are more sensitive with not some packet loss but some transmission delay. Therefore, Stream Control Transmission Protocol(SCTP) is proposed to minimize the delay and packet loss in the field of delivery of voice signal. SCTP is designed to transport PSTN signalling messages over IP networks, but is capable of broader applications. In this paper, the architecture of SCTP implementation is designed and some interface of SCTP software library which are implemented are specified.
