Optimal Characteristics of a Long-pulse $CO_2$Laser by Controlling SCR Firing Angle in AC Power Line

  • We demonstrate a simple pulsed $CO_2$ laser with millisecond long pulse duration in a tube at a low pressure of less than 30 Torr. The novel power supply for our laser system switches the voltage of the AC power line (60Hz) directly. The power supply doesn't need elements such as a rectifier bridge, energy-storage capacitors, or a current-limiting resistor in the discharge circuit. To control the laser output power, the pulse repetition rate is adjusted up to 60Hz and the firing angle of SCR(Silicon Controlled Rectifier) gate is varied from 30。 to 150。. A ZCS (Zero Crossing Switch) circuit and a PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control precisely the gate signal of the SCR. The maximum laser output of 35 W is obtained at a total pressure of 18 Torr, a pulse repetition rate of 60 Hz, and a SCR gate firing angle of 90。 . In addition, the resulting laser pulse width is approximately 3㎳(FWHM). This is a relatively long pulse width, compared with other repetitively pulsed $CO_2$ lasers.

기존 선박의 디젤발전기용 SCR 시스템 설치에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Installation of SCR System for Generator Diesel Engine of Existing Ship)

  • IMO MEPC에서는 해양환경 보호를 위해서 선박으로부터 배출되는 배기가스 규제를 날로 점점 강화하고 있다. 특히, 2016년부터 건조되어 국제항해를 하는 모든 신조 선박에 대한 질소산화물(NOx) 배출량은 Tier-III 규제를 만족하게 되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 선박용으로 개발된 NOx 저감용 SCR(선택적 환원 촉매) 시스템을 기존 선박의 디젤발전기에 설치하여 NOx 저감성능을 파악하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 위하여 목포해양대학교 실습선 새누리호 디젤발전기의 배기 파이프라인을 개조 공사하여 요소 SCR 시스템을 설치하였으며, 요소 용액(40%) 분사 방법은 수동 모드와 PLC를 통한 자동 모드로 나누어 두 가지 방법으로 실험을 하였다. 수동 모드 방법을 통하여 암모니아 슬립 발생구간을 찾을 수 있었으며, 엔진부하별(25, 35 및 50%)로 최적의 요소 분사량을 조절할 수 있었다. 부하를 Down-Up(25%에서 50%로 올리면서) 시보다도 Up-Down(50%에서 25%로 내리면서) 시에 NOx 저감성능이 더 좋음을 알 수 있었으며, 본 바나듐계 촉매가 사용된 SCR 시스템을 기존 선박의 디젤발전기에 설치하여 질소산화물이 80% 이상 절감됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • As the environmental regulation of vehicle emission is strengthened, investigations for $NO_x$ and PM reduction strategies are popularly conducted. Two current available technologies for continuous $NO_x$ reduction onboard diesel vehicles are Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) using aqueous urea and lean $NO_x$ trap (LNT) catalysts. The experiments were conducted to investigate the $NO_x$ reduction performance of SCR system which can control the ratio of $NO/NO_2$, temperature and SV(space velocity), and the model gas was used which is similar to a diesel exhaust gas. The maximum reduction efficiency is indicated when the $NO:NO_2$ ratio is 1:1 and the SV is 30,000 $h^{-1}$ in $300^{\circ}C$. Generally, ammonia slip from SCR reactors are rooted to incomplete conversion of $NH_3$ over the SCR. In this research, slip was occurred in 6cases (except low SV and $NO:NO_2$ ratio is 1:1) after SCR. Among 6 case of slip occurrence, the maximum conversion efficiency is observed when SV is 60,000 $h^{-1}$ in $400^{\circ}C$.

WLTC 시험 모드에서 소형 경유자동차의 후처리 시스템에 따른 질소산화물 및 입자개수 배출 특성 (Characteristics of NOx and PN According to After-treatment for Light-duty Diesel Vehicles in WLTC Test Mode)

  • Since September 2017, a small diesel vehicle certification test mode has been enhanced from NEDC to WLTC. The main reason for the change of the certification test mode is that the certification test mode of the emission control standard of the diesel vehicle does not sufficiently reflect various driving patterns of the actual roads. Several automakers have developed after-treatment systems such as LNT, SCR, and DPF to meet enhanced emissions regulations. In this study, four small diesel cars were selected for sale in Korea, and the exhaust gas measurement test was performed in the WLTC mode, which reflects the driving characteristics of the actual roads. As a result of test, LNT vehicle exceeded Euro 6 NOx regulation and SCR vehicle satisfied Euro 6 NOx regulation. In addition, both LNT and SCR systems showed high NOX emission characteristics due to speed, RPA and Vxa. For the PN, all test vehicles were fitted with a DPF and met the Euro 6 PN regulations, with similar PN emissions results in LNT and SCR system.

  • In upcoming Post Stage-V and Tier 5 regulations of construction machineries, nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are strictly limited in cold start conditions. In response to this, a method of improving NOx conversion efficiency has been applied by installing an electric heating catalyst (EHC) in front of conventional urea-SCR systems so that the evaporation and thermal decomposition of urea-water solution can be promoted in cold start conditions. In this strategy, the evaporation and thermal decomposition of urea-water solution and corresponding NOx conversion efficiency are governed by temperature conditions inside the EHC. Therefore, characterizing the temperature distribution in the EHC under various operating conditions is crucial for the optimized operation and control of the EHC in Urea-SCR systems. In this study, a 1-D modeling analysis was performed to predict the heater surface temperature distribution in EHC under various operating conditions. The reliability of prediction results was verified by comparing them with measurement results obtained using an infrared (IR) camera. Based on 1-D analysis results, the effects of various EHC operation parameters on the heater surface temperature distribution were analyzed and discussed.

  • Nowadays, a Spot Welding system has been widely used in all kinds of industries and the common control method of the systeme is a simple current control using SCR. But, that kind of system is less effective than a current control method using inverter. So, it is constantly proposed that an improvement of hard ware and control method of spot welding system in compliance with technological advancement in power electronics. This paper deals with spot welding system using inverter. Especially, it deals with hard ware structure, features and output characteristics.

  • The choice of control method and circuit must be decided after a broad inspection with the characteristics of load and control elements as well as that of electric and mechanical nature. In the present study, Pulse width modulated(PWM) SCR chopper was chosen and for the electric commutation, Jones' forced method was taken bacause of its having enough reverse bias energy. Objectives of experimentation by this system are; 1) the condition of SCR as a gate trigger pulse. 2) the observation of phenomena at the time of forced commutation 3) the experimentation on characteristics of speed control by PWM chopper. Above experimentation shows good characteristics, however, in the limit of narrow gap between the ON and OFF pulses, a complete control was not possible. So, that must be the point to be studied further alone with the harmonics influence.

  • 대기 환경의 오염에 크게 영향을 주는 자동차용 배기가스를 줄이기 위함과 강화되고 있는 배기가스 규제를 만족시키기 위한 최첨단의 기술을 개발하기 위하여 전세계 많은 연구진이 연구 개발을 진행하고 있는 상황에서, 가솔린 차량과 디젤차량분야 에서 배기가스 저감을위한 후처리 장치용 촉매 개발동향을 설명하고자 한다. 본 발표에서는 가솔린, 디젤 차량 적용 촉매의 기본 원리 및 규제 대응 신기술 개발 동향으로 TWC, DOC, DPF, SCR, LNT등의 기술과 후처리 시스템의 개발 동향을 설명한다.

  • The vessels which are operated in ECA (Emission Control Area) after $1^{st}$ January 2016 shall be complied with revised NOx emission requirement (Tier III). Effective solutions for NOx emission requirement are SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and Installation of LNG Dual Fuel Engine. This study is considered the design modification as per application of LNG Ready notation. In case of LNG Ready - S notation, the vessel shall be retrofitted the Main engine with Dual fuel engine and LNG Fuel system after delivery. On this paper, the entire process for design modification was explained to meet the requirement for LNG Ready notation.

  • In this paper, an embedded micro processor based resistance spot welding controller is introduced which has been recently developed by Hyosung Co. Ltd. The performance of rapid and constant high current control is tested experimentally. This paper shows configurations of measuring system for high current and realtime RMS conversion techniques of sampled discrete data. A digital proportional control is adopted for this system and the result shows that this new product is working well at wide range of welding current and the performance is improved compared with some other commercially available controllers that are widely used in our industries. User friendly MMI system and a computer network system to monitor each welding processes are also presented.
