Objectivd : The aim of this trial is to examine the effect and safety of Medibebe in patients with atopic dermatitis. Methods : We made a comparison between before and after the use this product. Volunteers who satisfied the requirements were enrolled in the study. Degrees of severity of atopic dermatitis were measured by SCORAD index. Results : After 4 weeks' use of Medibebe, SCORAD index showed a decrease of $20.0{\pm}10.2$(95% C.I: 17.1-22.9) compared with when it was not applied, which is a statistically meaningful change(p-value<0.0001). Subjective pruritus and Sleeping loss reported after both 2 and 4 weeks' use of Medibebe decreased in a statistically meaningful way(p-value<0.0001) compared with before the application. but, 2 cases out of all 50 subjects for the clinical trial were excluded on the way. Conclusion : As a result of applying the 4 items of Medibebe(cream, lotion, soap, and body cleanser) to patients with atopic dermatitis and watching the progress, it is concluded and considered that these cleansing and moisturizing products can be used by atopic patients safely and effectively with almost no side-effect.

Method : A total of 30 patients with atopic dermatitis were evaluated for the symptoms and signs according to SCORAD index and measured for peripheral eosinophil counts and serum total IgE before and after treatment. Results : 1. Among 30 patients diagnosed as Atopic Dermatitis, 11, were male(37%) and 19 were female(63%). the ratio of male and female patients were 1:1.7. 2. Among 30 patients diagnosed as Atopic Dermatitis, 25 Have family history of allergic disease(83%) and 20 have past history of allergic discase. 3. There was statistically significant relationship between serum total IgE and SCORAD score(p=0.019). 4. There was statistically significant relationship between peripheral eosinophil count and SCORAD score(p=0.001). 5. We could find no statistically significant change of serum total IgE and peripheral eosinphil count before and after treatment. 6. There was statistically significant change of SCORAD score and subjective symptom before and after treatment.(p<0.05). • Thirty five AD patients were treated with Phellinus linteus grown in germinated brown rice(PB) p.o., at 6, 9, and 12 g/day to the patients with their body weight for 12 weeks. A significant reduction in mean severity scores and mean symptom scores was observed after PB treatment. The mean SCORAD indices pre and post PB treatment were $31.28{\pm}10.01$ and $22.39{\pm}15.59$ (p<0.05), respectively. And the mean symptom score of pruritus assessment decreased from $7.37{\pm}1.33$ to $4.6{\pm}2.34$ (p<0.05) after PB treatment. These results suggest that PB shows alleviation of atopic dermatitis symptoms.

  • Objectives : The objective of this study is to report a case of a male atopic dermatitis patient accompanying seborrheic capitis and nummular eczema improved by Korean medicine therapy and lifestyle modification. Methods : A male patient was hospitalized for eczematous lesions in the head, face, and both hands which relapsed on March 2021. For 15 days, he took Korean medicine therapy including acupuncture, Bangpungtongseongsan-gagam, pharmacopuncture, and wet dressing with Hwangryunhaedok-tang. Simultaneously, lifestyle correction also conducted during administration. On the other hand, corticosteroid and antihistamine were prescribed from internal medicine of our hospital for the first 10 days because of severe skin lesions. As an outpatient, he was continuously treated by the same Korean medicine therapy except herbal decoction weekly for about 7 months after discharge. To assess symptoms, scoring atopic dermatitis(SCORAD) index, taking photos, and numerical rating scale(NRS) were used. Results : After 15 days of hospitalization, the SCORAD index decreased to 30.0, which was about a half of the initial SCORAD index(61.2). NRS score also dropped from 6 to 3. Despite stopping western medicine administration, skin lesions and subjective symptoms of the patient were steadily improved without aggravation. For 7 months of continued outpatient treatment, atopic dermatitis were steadily ameliorated despite temporary aggravation and improvement of symptoms, and seborrheic capitis was not relapsed. The final SCORAD index and NRS on November 9th, 2021 were 24.7 and 1, respectively. Conclusions : These results suggests that Korean medicine therapy contributes to improving SCORAD index, subjective symptoms, and skin lesions of the patient. Furthermore, lifestyle modification is also important as much as proper treatment for caring atopic dermatitis patients.

  • Objective : Atopic dermatitis (AD) may profoundly affect patient's quality of life (QOL), and also cause economic impact. The aim of our study was to evaluate the quality of life and the economic impact of adult atopic dermatitis patient in Seoul. We also evaluate the relationship of QOL and economic impact with severity of AD. Methods : 30 adult atopic dermatitis patient were included and evaluated by using the SCORAD Index and EASI. Patients were asked to fill in the questionnaires about their quality of life and financial costs during the past year by AD. Data about sleep disturbance and pruritus were also obtained. Pearson's correlation were used for statistical analysis. Results : 1. Among 30 patients, women were 19(63.3%), men were 11(36.7%). The mean age of the patients were 27.3 years old, patients between the ages of 17 and 30 years were 23, over 30 were seven. 2. The mean score of Objective SCORAD was $32.89{\pm}7.30$, Subjective SCORAD was $8.13{\pm}3.53$ and EASI was $9.15{\pm}6.90$이었다. 3. The mean score of Skindex-29 was $28.26{\pm}7.58$, DLQI was $10.17{\pm}5.55$. 4. By analyzing the questionnaire, a monthly average cost of 583,200 won for each patient was determined. Direct cost was 236,800 won and indirect cost was 346,300 won. 5. By analyzing the correlation between the severity of AD and QOL, Objective SCORAD and EASI were positively correlated with QOL(Skindex-29, DLQI) but not significant, meanwhile subjective SCORAD were significantly and positively correlated with QOL(Skindex-29, DLQI). 6. By analyzing the correlation between the severity of AD and economic impact, Objective SCORAD were significantly and positively correlated with direct cost and indirect cost. Also, EASI were significantly and positively correlated with direct cost and oriental medical hospital visits. Conclusions : The above results show that the QOL of the patients with atopic dermatitis is significantly related to their disease severity. Atopic dermatitis patients pay 583,200 won a month, and the economic impact of the patients is significantly related to their disease severity.

  • Objectives : This study was aimed to evaluate the correlation between changes in disease severity and serum total IgE or eosinophil count in individual patients of atopic dermatitis depending on the change of severity. Methods : We performed a retrospective chart review of 8 cases of atopic dermatitis who underwent blood tests more than five times. Disease severity was assessed by objective SCORing of Atopic Dermatitis index (OSI). Blood tests include serum total IgE, eosinophil counts, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCr). In each subject, on the day that the blood test was performed, OSI was also assesed by a same physician. Correlation between OSI and total IgE or eosinophil count was analysed by nonparametric correlation analysis. Results : There was a statistically significant positive correlation between OSI and total IgE in three cases and a positive correlation between OSI and eosinophil count in two cases. In other three cases, there were no significant correlation. There were no cases that OSI correlated with total IgE and eosinophil count at the same time. In all cases, AST, ALT, BUN and SCr were stable. Conclusions : We suggest that total IgE and eosinophil count may reflect the severity of atopic dermatitis differently in individual patients. We also suggest that total IgE and eosinophil counts may be used as biomarkers to predict the severity of atopic dermatitis in some patients depending on the underlying pathology.
