  • A journal listed by the Thompson Reuters for Scientific Citation Index Expended(SCIE) is important to be recognized internationally. There is no domestic journal related the exercise or sports discipline in spite of some domestic journals related other disciplines are recently listed in the SCIE. To be listed our Korean Journal of Exercise Nutrition(KJEN) on the SCIE, it is important to satisfy the criteria of SCIE. The criteria for journal evaluation and selection by Thompson Reuters include four main aspects. Evaluation of basic journal standards include timeliness of publication, international editorial conventions, bibliographic information in English and application of the peer review process. The editorial contents, international diversity and citation analysis are also evaluated. This study will propose the key points for listing the KJEN at SCIE journal.

  • In the field of science and technology, influential international journals can easily be found in SCIE. A total number of journals published by societies or institutes in Korea are only 82 of the 8,300 SCIE titles. In this study, in light of the SCI criteria the detailed analysis, of these journals was performed for Korean SCIE journals. The results show that in general domestic journals were not actively cited, had a low level of internationality, and user services through the website was insufficient. Korean SCIE journals should continue to complement these points and elevate its reputation. Candidate journals should concentrate on recruiting more excellent papers, promoting communication with foreign researchers, enhancing domestic and international public relations, and the like. To actively support the domestic publication of excellent journals, long-term and short-term measures should be established and consistently practiced at the national level.

  • [ $\underline{Purpose}$ ]: To investigate current status of SCI (Science Citation Index) and SCI Expanded publications of Korean radiation oncologists. $\underline{Materials\;and\;Methods}$: Published SCI and SCIE articles the conditions of first author's address as "Korea" and "Radiation Oncology" or "Therapeutic Radiology" were searched from Pubmed database. $\underline{Results}$: From 1990 to 2006, 146 SCI articles and 32 SCIE articles were published. Most frequently published journal was International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics, where 56 articles were found. Articles with 30 or more citations were only five and 10 or more citations were 26. Yonsei University, which had 57 published articles, was the top among 19 affiliations which had one or more SCI and SCIE articles. Authors with five or more articles were 9 and Seong J. of Yonsei University was the top with 19 articles. $\underline{Conclusion}$: The investigations showed disappointing results. The members of Korean Society of Radiation Oncologists must consider a strategy to increase SCI and SCIE publications.

  • This study pointed the factors affecting the number of articles and citations in material science which is the most active publishing disciplinary in South Korea. This was conducted by gathering the information on SCIE which had been published by 449 Korean professors in material science from 2006 to 2010. One of the results was that the professors who had published more papers received more citations than those who did not, reconfirming former studies abroad. It was observed that the factors majors impacting on the number of papers may be their academic positions, educational backgrounds (particularly undergraduates), and places of work. The number of citations was affected by the authors' undergraduate and their locations of the work. This study suggested a need for more supports on basic researches by universities and funding bodies and an amendment of performance measures to include the number of citations.

  • Purpose: We collected the data of Science Citation Index (SCI) and SCI Expended (SCIE) papers written by the members of the Korean Society of Radiation Oncology (KOSRO) to analyze the current status and the future trend. Materials and Methods: We searched the database of SCIE for the period from 1981 to 2011 at the Web of Knowledge site. Articles, reviews or proceedings written by KOSRO members as the first or corresponding authors were included. Search terms were the following combination of subject headings: therapeut radiol, radiat oncol, Korea. For National Cancer Center, combined search terms such as natl canc ctr, Korea and the names of faculties were applied. Results: The total number of SCIE papers was 547. Numbers of the published papers in 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010, were increased continuously, which was 2, 14, 40, and 83, respectively. The average impact factor was 2.9. The papers were published at the 134 different journals. The proportion of "International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics" was 23.4% of all the papers. The number and proportions of papers by subject categories were 87 (15.9%) in biology, 73 (13.3%) in physics and 387 (70.6%) in clinics. The papers of the top five institutions, based on the number of published papers, occupied 66.3%. Conclusion: The number of SCIE papers is increasing rapidly in the field of radiation oncology in Korea. To improve the quality of papers, multi-institutional retrospective or prospective randomized studies should be done for the common cancers in Korea.

  • Korean researchers' scientific outputs are increasing rapidly with the growth of both Korea's economy and industry size. This is the time to analyze the scientific output (STEM area) of Korea over the last 40 years. For this analysis, this study used the SCIE database of Web of Science (WoS), which is a representative global Citation Index Service. The objects of analysis are every Korean document published in the SCIE journal, and the research scopes are (1) analysis of citation and subject categories and (2) analysis of co-authorship. Through this study, characteristics such as cited trend and research trend by subject, and the status of collaboration between Korea and other countries including the 50 states of the USA were revealed.
