The building energy performance indicator, called Energy Performance Index (EPI), has been used for the past decades in South Korea. It has a list of design variables assigned with weighting factors (a, b). Unfortunately, the current EPI method is not performance-based but very close to a prescriptive rating. With this in mind, this study aims to propose a new performance-based EPI method. For this purpose, a global sensitivity analysis method, Sobol, is employed. The Sobol method is suitable for complex nonlinear models and can decompose all the output variance due to every input. The Sobol sensitivity index of each variable is defined as 0 to 1 (0 to 100%), and the sum of all sensitivity indices is equal to 1 (100%). In this study, an office building was modeled using EnergyPlus and then the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) was conducted to generate a surrogate model to EnergyPlus. The sensitivity index was suggested to replace weight (a) in the existing EPI. In addition, the discrete weight (b) in the existing EPI was replaced by a set of continuous regression functions. Due to the introduction of the sensitivity index and the continuous regression functions, the new proposed approach can provide far more accurate outcome than the existing EPI (R2: 0.83 vs. R2: 0.01 for cooling, R2: 0.66 vs. R2: 0.01 for total energy). The new proposed approach proves to be more rational, objective and performance-based than the existing EPI method.

Experimental study on the durability characteristics to examine the feasibility of concrete with high water-tightness and self-healing performance to minimize maintenance of concrete for artificial ground is as follows. 1) When blending agent, swelling agents, and curing accelerator were added on the ternary system cement with blast-furnace slag fine particles and fly ash to give a self-healing property, higher blending strengths by 82% at design standard strength of 24MPa and by 74% at design strength of 30MPa, respectively could be obtained. 2) The permeability test for the specimens having high water-tightness and no shrinkage showed that the permeability was reduced at maximum of 98%. However, the permeability was decreased as the design strength was increased, showing the reduction rate of 87% at the design strength of 50MPa. 3) The depth of carbonation of blast-furnace slag and fly ash was increased in all the specimens compared with those of OPC only. However, as the material age was increased, carbonation penetration depth was decreased compared with the reference blend. 4) Compared with the reference blending using only OPC, the freeze-thaw resistance was higher in the case of blending with 40% of blast-furnace slag and 10% of fly ash at the design standard strength of 50MPa. In addition, the freeze-thaw resistance in general was superior in the design standard strength of 50MPa with the lower water-binder ratio (W/B) as compared with the design standard strength of 24MPa and 30MPa with the high water-binder ratios.

The purpose of this study was to analyze outdoor thermal comfort of apartments planning characteristic of pedestrian height in Beijing, China. Selecting 322 apartment complexes with more than 1000 households and more than 10 buildings(including 10 buildings), mainly in Chaoyang District and Tongzhou District to select 32 basic layout types and then 12 typical layout types were select in 32 basic layout types. Finally, the simulation was conducted for the 12 typical layout types using the micro-climate model ENVI-met to evaluate the wind environment, the thermal environment and the comfort. The results of this study as follows: In the parallel arrangement, it has the best outdoor thermal comfort of Slab-East-Parallel(S/E/P). Next is Slab-South-Parallel(S/S/P), Tower-South-Parallel(T/S/P) in turn. In the stagger arrangement, Mixture-South-North and South Stagger-1(M/S/NSS-1) has the best outdoor thermal comfort and Slab-South-North and South Stagger(S/S/NSS), Tower-South-North and South Stagger(T/S/NSS), Mixture-South-North and South Stagger-3(M/S/NSS-3), Mixture-South-North and South Stagger-4(M/S/NSS-4), Mixture-South-North and South Stagger-2(M/S/NSS-2) in turn. In the cluster arrangement, Mixture-Mixture-Cluster-2(M/M/C-2) has the best outdoor thermal comfort and Mixture-Mixture-Cluster-3(M/M/C-3), Mixture-Mixture-Cluster-1(M/M/C-1) in turn. Due to the low wind speed and high air temperature, it is necessary to consider the layout types that can form the wind road at first, such as Mixture-South-North and South Stagger-1(M/S/NSS-1), Slab-South-North and South Stagger(S/S/NSS) and so on.

Recently, skyscraper building and apartment fires, which were rapidly spread out from a low floor to a rooftop, have become a frequent occurrence in mass media. This fire problems have a fatal disadvantage that the exterior wall finish of the building emits toxic gas in case of fire by using dry bit method or organic insulating material. Therefore, in order to remedy these problems, many exterior wall finishing construction methods have been proposed, but the current trend is to use existing construction methods due to problems such as economy, weight, and durability. On the other hand, in countries such as Germany and Japan, ceramic sidings are used as exterior finishing material for buildings, which is environmentally friendly, excellent natural beauty, long life, easy maintenance and high-quality exterior materials. However, those ceramic sidings have still the problems such as manufacturing cost and weight problem because of boosting the sintering temperature up to 1,350℃ or more. Also, conventional CRC, MgO, FRP sidings which are composed of pulp, glass fiber and organic materials, have been reports of deformation due to ultraviolet rays, discoloration, corrosion and scattering, surface rupture, lifting and peeling. Therefore, in this study as an alternative to solve this problem, halosite nano kaolin produced in Sancheong in Korea and frit flux were used to satisfy the required properties as ceramic siding using low temperature sintering (below 1,000℃) and lightweight materials such as pearlite. This study aims to design the optimal formulation and process of materials and to study the characteristics of nano-coated ceramic siding material development and to present relevant basic data. The findings show that ceramic siding for nanocoated building materials is excellent as a natural ceramic siding building material. The fire resistance of natural minerals and nano particle refining technology satisfy the bending strength of 80kgf / cm2, the volume ratio of 2.0 and the absorption rate of less than 10.0%.

For test on flooring board laminated with PVC decoration materials in order to replace the current surface materials such as HPL in decoration wood-based flooring board. the Results of comparison and analysis are as follows: For thermal conductivity, flooring board decorated with PVC did not show huge differences when temperature was rising and lowering compared to the flooring materials laminated with the existing HPL surface materials. It seems the most meaningful results for using it as indoor flooring materials. That is, in Korea where there is the culture focusing on ondol heating, use amount of heat energy and efficiency of flooring materials are very important and sensitive issues, involving immediately with household economy of final consumers, and it might be a criteria to judge basic performances required as flooring materials. As a result of the analysis on mandatory durability test items such as abrasion resistance, absorption width expansion rate, impact resistance, surface hardness, and impact absorption for flooring materials, compared to flooring board laminated with general HPL surface decoration materials, decoration wood-based flooring board laminated with PVC surface decoration materials which is higher abrasion resistance with smaller transformation and has better durability and impact absorption of the surface, is available for actual application as indoor flooring board, and for replacing surface decoration materials impregnated with heat-hardened resion such as HPL.

Recently, concentration of fine and ultra-fine particulate matter(PM) has been increased in KOREA. The increase of PM in KOREA is due to increase of domestic industries and yellow dust from china. PM is known to cause diseases such as dyspnoea, asthma, arrhythmia. Since PM is harmful to human, KOREA Ministry of Environment(ME) warns people to stay indoors when the outdoor PM concentration is high. However, prior studies has shown that indoor PM concentration can be relatively high when outdoor PM concentration is high due to infiltration of PM into buildings though leakage areas. In this study, airtightness, indoor and outdoor pressure difference and PM 2.5 & 10 concentration were measured in an apartment complex to observe PM infiltrating into building. Field measurement was conducted in newly-built apartment buildings to avoid the influence of indoor PM which can be generated by residents. The airtightness test was conducted to identify the leakage areas of the apartment, such as electric outlets and supply/exhaust diffusers. The airtightness test result showed that the air leakage area of the building was dominant in buildings envelop. According to indoor and outdoor pressure difference measurement result and PM concentration measurement result, it can be concluded that outdoor PM can infiltrate into indoor by leakage areas when wind is blown toward the apartment. As a result, pressure difference formed by the external weather condition and architectural characteristics such as the airtightness in building can influence PM to infiltrate into buildings. In further studies, I/O ratio, stack-effect, infiltration and penetration factor will be considered.

The purpose of this study was to analyze factors influencing insulation performance of inorganic Autoclaved Lightweight Concrete(ALC) sandwich wall panels with the application of shear connectors. To analyze the effect of shear connectors on the thermal performance of sandwich wall panels, heat transfer analysis was conducted by using the three-dimensional heat transfer simulation software. Four types of shear connector such as Pin, Clip, Grid, and Truss were selected for insulation performance analysis. Thermal bridge coefficient was calculated by varying typical panel thickness and shear connector thickness and materials such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. The results showed that Grid and Truss type widely distributed along the section of sandwich wall panel had a great influence on the thermal bridge coefficient by changing the influence factors. Based on the results of thermal and structural performance analysis, effective heat transmission coefficient of the sandwich wall panel satisfying the passive house insulation criteria was calculated. As a result, it was found that heat transmission coefficient was increased from $0.132W/m^2{\cdot}K$ to $0.141{\sim}0.306W/m^2{\cdot}K$ depending on the shear connector types and materials. In the majority of cases, the passive house insulation criteria was not satisfied after using shear connectors. The results of this study were likely to vary according to how influence factors were set, but it is important to apply the methods that reduce the thermal bridge when there would be a possibility of greatly affecting the insulation performance.

In case of evaluating the bond stress of a void deck plate using a wire steel, there is no standard formula considering both the influence on the void and the type of the reinforcing bar. Therefore we proposed a model equation considered the bond characteristics of the void deck plate. A total of 46 specimens was carried out a direct pull-out test and the test variables were the presence of a void body, type of reinforcing bar, the inner cover thickness according to the location of reinforcing bars and bond region. As a result of the comparison between the steel bar and steel wire, the bond stress of the steel wire with the relative rib area of 0.071 is 4.5 ~ 28.58% lower than that of the steel bar with 0.092 and the bond stress reduction rate increases when the inner cover thickness is insufficient. In the case of the inner cover thickness of $1.7d_b$ and $2.7d_b$, the bond stress was reduced to 48.7 ~ 68.4%. In the inner cover thickness was $4.9d_b$ and $5.2d_b$, the bond stresses were equivalent to those of the solid specimens. It was confirmed that the average bond stress and strain were affected by the inner cover thickness. Therefore the predicted model for one module of the void deck plate is proposed and verified by considering the bond characteristics of the void deck plate.

This paper is a study to improve the fire-resistance capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) members strengthened by fiber-reinforced-polymer (FRP). The fire resistance of the RC members strengthened by FRP was evaluated through high temperature exposure test. In order to improve the fire resistance of the FRP reinforcing method, a fire-proof board was attached to the reinforced FRP surface and then the high temperature exposure test was carried out to evaluate the improvement of the fire resistance performance. It was confirmed that the resistance to high temperature of NSMR could be improved somewhat compared with that of EBR from the experiment that exposed to high temperature under the load corresponding to 40% of nominal strength. When 30 mm thick fire-resistance (FR) board is attached to the FRP surface, the surface of the reinforced FRP does not reach $65^{\circ}C$, which is the glass transition temperature (GTT) of the epoxy until the external temperature reaches $480^{\circ}C$. In particular, when a high performance fire-proof mortar was first applied prior to FR board attachment, the FRP portion did not reach the epoxy glass transition temperature until the external temperature reached $600^{\circ}C$.

In this study, the effect of window installation position in the residential building with the external insulation was numerically investigated in terms of insulation performance and heating/cooling energy consumption. For different window positions, 2-D heat transfer simulation was conducted to deduce the linear thermal transmittance, which was inputted to the dynamic energy simulation in order to analyze heating/cooling energy consumption. Simulation results showed that the linear thermal transmittance ranges from 0.05 W/mK to 0.7 W/mK, and is reduced as the window is installed near the external finish line. Indoor surface temperature and TDR analysis showed that the condensation risk is the lowest when the window is installed at the middle of the insulation and wall structure. It was also found that the window installation near the external finish can reduce the annual heating/cooling energy consumption by 12~16%, compared with the window installation near the interior finish. Although the window installation near the external finish can achieve the lowest heating/cooling energy consumption, it might lead to increased condensation risks unless additional insulation is applied. Thus, it can be concluded that the window should be installed near the insulation-wall structure junction, in consideration of the overall performance including energy consumption, condensation prevention and constructability.
