Background: A urethral obstruction (UO) is an emergency commonly observed in male cats, which can result in significant clinical and laboratory alterations, leading to complications and death. Objectives: This study aimed to correlate symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) with the urea, creatinine, potassium, and bicarbonate levels in cats with UO. In addition, the correlation between clinical score and time of obstruction was evaluated. Methods: Thirty male cats were selected and allocated into a control group (CG, n = 13) and an obstruction group (OG, n = 17). The laboratory analyses were conducted before treatment (M0) and at different times after treatment (12 h [M12], 24 h [M24], and 48 h [M48]). Correlations were established between SDMA and creatinine, urea, bicarbonate, potassium, time of obstruction, and the clinical score. Results: A strong correlation (r > 0.6) was observed between SDMA and creatinine, urea, and potassium in the OG. Furthermore, there was substantial agreement (kappa value) between SDMA and creatinine at M24. A higher clinical score was associated with a longer time of obstruction. In the OG, at M48, the SDMA and creatinine levels were 50% and 41.2% higher, respectively. Conclusions: A correlation was observed between SDMA and creatinine in obstructed cats, and significant agreement between these values was observed 24 h after the unblocking treatment. A correlation among SDMA, urea, and potassium was observed. Approximately 9% more cats continued to have elevated SDMA levels after 48 h of treatment compared to creatinine. This suggests a slightly lower sensitivity of the latter biomarker but does not exclude the possibility of congruent and normalized values after a longer evaluation period.

ITU와 ISO/IEC가 공동으로 UHD급 영상 부호화를 위해 표준화를 진행하고 있는 HEVC 코덱은 H.264/AVC 대비 2배 이상의 압축 효율을 갖는 것을 목표로 정하고 있다. HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding)는 In-Loop Filter 기술로 H.264/AVC에서 사용하고 있는 Deblocking Filter와 새롭게 추가 된 SAO(Sample Adaptive Offset)를 사용하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 HEVC의 In-Loop Filter 기술 중 하나인 SAO의 기술의 EO에서 Category를 조금 더 정확하게 판단하여 분류하는 방법을 제안을 한다.

Due to the increase of the use of precast concrete structures in multistory buildings, this paper deals with the behavior of an specific type of beam-column connection used in this structural system. The connection is composed by concrete corbels, dowels and continuity bars passing through the column. The study was developed based on the experimental and numerical results. In the experimental analysis a full scale specimen was tested and for numerical study, a 3D computational model was created using a finite element analyze (FEA) software, called DIANA. The comparison of the results showed a satisfactory correlation between loading versus displacement curves.

Gastric cancer (GC) remains a virtually incurable disease when metastatic and requires early screening tools for detection of early tumor stages. Therefore, finding effective strategies for prevention or recurrence of GC has become a major overall initiative. RNA-interference (RNAi) is an innovative technique that can significantly regulate the expression of oncogenes involved in gastric carcinogenesis, thus constituting a promising epigenetic approach to GC therapy. This review presents recent advances concerning the promising biomolecular mechanism of RNAi for GC treatment.

The oxidative potential of the fungus Penicillium brasilianum, a strain isolated as endophytic from a Meliaceae plant (Melia azedarach), was investigated using 1-indanone as substrate to track the production of monooxygenases. The fungus produced the dihydrocoumarin from 1-indanone with the classical Baeyer-Villiger reaction regiochemistry, and (-)-(R)-3-hydroxy-1-indanone with 78% ee. Minor compounds that had resulted from lipase and SAM activities were also detected. The biotransformation procedures were also applied using a collection of Penicillium and Aspergillus fungi obtained from M. azedarach and Murraya paniculata. The results showed that Baeyer-Villiger were mostly active in fungi isolated from M. azedarach. Almost all fungi tested produced 3-hydroxy-1-indanone.

Endophytic fungi, isolated from a number of different species of tropical plants, were investigated for lipid biodiesel precursor production. The extracts produced from liquid cultures of these fungi were subjected to acidcatalyzed transesterification reactions with methanol producing methyl esters and then analyzed through chromatographic (GC-FID) and spectrometric techniques (MS, NMR $^1H$). The European Standard Method, EN 14103, was used for the quantification of methyl esters extracted from the fungi of the species and genera studied. Xylariaceous fungi exhibited the highest concentrations of methyl esters (91%), and hence may be a promising source for biofuel.

This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of composite floor slab comprised by a new steel sheet and concrete slab. The strength of composite slabs depends mainly on the strength of the connection between the steel sheet and concrete, which is denoted by longitudinal shear strength. The composite slabs have three main failures modes, failure by bending, vertical shear failure and longitudinal shear failure. These modes are based on the load versus deflection curves that are obtained in bending tests. The longitudinal shear failure is brittle due to the mechanical connection was not capable of transferring the shear force until the failure by bending occurs. The vertical shear failure is observed in slabs with short span, large heights and high concentrated loads subjected near the supports. In order to analyze the behavior of the composite slab with a new steel sheet, six bending tests were undertaken aiming to provide information on their longitudinal shear strength, and to assess the failure mechanisms of the proposed connections. Two groups of slabs were tested, one with 3000 mm in length and other with 1500 mm in length. The tested composite slabs showed satisfactory composite behavior and longitudinal shear resistance, as good as well, the analysis confirmed that the developed sheet is suitable for use in composite structures without damage to the global behavior.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. The ABCB1 protein, a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family, encoded by the ABCB1 gene, considerably influences the distribution of drugs across cell membranes as well as multidrug resistance (MDR) of antineoplastic drugs. In contrast to the extensive knowledge on the pharmacological action of ABCB1 protein, the correlation between the clinical-pathological data and ABCB1 protein expression in patients with GC remains unclear. The aim was to investigate association between ABCB1 expression and overall survival in GC patients. Human tumor fragments from 57 GC patients were examined by immunohistochemistry assay. We observed lower survival rate of patients with GC who were positive for ABCB1 expression (p=0.030). Based on these observations, we conclude that GC patients with positive ABCB1 protein immunohistochemical expression in their tumors suffer shorter overall survival.
