  • This study examines modernist grid and boundary in the works of Toyo Ito - two of the most important notions characterizing the development of Toyo Ito as an iconoclast architect. Early in his career, Ito recognized modernist architecture's inherent tendencies to establish homogenous order and divide space by function was alienating people from their context. Ito identified the notions of modernist grid and boundary as the agents of Modernism which inadvertently served to impose this systematic order and severe separation. As a reaction against these tendencies, Ito sought to avoid the use of modernist grid and blur boundary in his architecture. In Ito's career spanning over four decades, he engages in an exhaustive inquiry seeking to modify these two core elements of architecture. This study investigates these two notions in Ito's works and examines the significance of the architect's exploration in the context of Japan's Modernism.

  • It has been found that $\alpha, \beta$-unsaturated nitrile derivatives 1-3 reached with S- methylisothiourea to give the prpone derivatives 4-6 respectively. Cyclisation of 4-6 using ethanolic hydrochloric acid afforded the pyridine derivatives 7-9 in good yields. On the other hand, the reactions of hydrazine hydrate and of phenylhydrazine with each of 7-9 gave the corresponding pyrazolopyridine derivatives 10-15. The structures of the newly synthesised derivatives were assigned on the basis of elemental analyses, IR and $^1H$-NMR spectral data studies.

  • Face Detection is one of the most important aspects of image processing, it considers a time-consuming problem in real-time applications such as surveillance systems, face recognition systems, attendance system and many. At present, commodity hardware is getting more and more heterogeneity in terms of architectures such as GPU and MIC co-processors. Utilizing those co-processors along with the existing traditional CPUs gives the algorithm a better chance to make use of both architectures to achieve faster implementations. This paper presents a hybrid implementation of the face detection based on the local binary pattern (LBP) algorithm that is deployed on both traditional CPU and MIC co-processor to enhance the speed of the LBP algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed implementation achieved improvement in speed by 3X when compared to a single architecture individually.

  • Handball sport, as its name postulates, is a team sport which highly physical workout. During a handball play, several ball impacts are applied on the hands resulting vibration in the forearm, upper arm, shoulders and in general in whole body. Hand has important role in the handball's game. So, understanding about the dynamics and some issues that improve the stability of the hand is important in the sport engineering field. Ulna and radius are two parallel bones in lower arm of human hand which their ends are located in elbow and wrist joint. The type of the joint provides the capability of rotation of the lower arm. These two bones with their ends conditions in the joints constructs a 4-link frame. The ulna is slightly thinner than radius. So, understanding about hand kinematics in handball's game is an important thing in the engineering field. So, in the current work with the aid of a multi-physics simulation, dynamic stability analysis of the ulna and radius bones will be presented in detail.

  • Social media is a window for everyone, individuals, communities, and companies to spread ideas and promote trends and products. With these opportunities, challenges and problems related to security, privacy and rights arose. Also, the data accumulated from social media has become a fertile source for many analytics, inference, and experimentation with new technologies in the field of data science. In this chapter, emphasis will be given to methods of trend analysis, especially ensemble learning methods. Ensemble learning methods embrace the concept of cooperation between different learning methods rather than competition between them. Therefore, in this chapter, we will discuss the most important trends in ensemble learning and their applications in analysing social media data and anticipating the most important future trends.

  • This study aims to evaluate the effect of computerized tax services in improving tax performance by moderating governance principles in Jordanian tax income departments. The study is based on a questionnaire distributed to income tax auditors, who were chosen by the simple random sampling method, so that 170 questionnaires were subjected to statistical analysis. The study models were formulated in the form of simple and multiple regression equations to test the hypotheses of the study, in addition to relying on One Sample T-test to calculate the mean of questionnaire answers. The most prominent research results is that the application of tax governance principles through the provision of computerized tax services is reflected in the increase in confidence between taxpayers and income tax departments, the efficiency of tax performance, and tax proceeds. Also, the study pointed out the importance of the income tax departments to prepare strategic plans regarding the development and the follow-up of modern technologies related to computerized tax services. It especially regards linking and collecting tax from taxpayers such as via electronic tax payment and collection system, in order to ensure the speed of completion, accuracy of calculation, and raising the efficiency of tax performance.

  • The present paper reports on a trial to shed further light on the characterization, applications, and operation of radar speed guns or Gunn diodes on different radiation environments of neutron or g fields. To this end, theoretical and experimental investigations of microwave oscillating system for outer-space applications were carried out. Radiation effects on the transient parameters and electrical properties of the proposed devices have been studied in detail with the application of computer programming. Also, the oscillation parameters, power characteristics, and bias current were plotted under the influence of different ${\gamma}$ and neutron irradiation levels. Finally, shelf or oven annealing processes were shown to be satisfactory techniques to recover the initial characteristics of the irradiated devices.

  • The study aims to compare the effects of employing investment deposits (joint and specified investment deposits) in Islamic banks, and investment deposits (term deposits and deposits with notification) at conventional banks, on shareholders' profitability, represented by the earnings per share (EPS), in light of operational profits as a controlling variable. Data related to the study variables was collected from the annual financial reports published by the study sample banks, during the period (2009-2018). The study relies on multiple regression to test the hypotheses of the study. The high adjusted R2 to explain the change in EPS for Islamic banks model as compared to conventional banks, is a result of the high difference between investment deposits (specified and joint) at Jordanian Islamic banks and investment deposits (term deposits and deposits with notification) at Jordanian conventional banks. The study found that it is important for the managements of Islamic banks to adopt a uniform method to combine speculative funds, in order to develop and improve shareholders' profitability. The study recommended Islamic banks to follow practical, methodological and transparent approaches to calculate the rates of Murabaha profit margins between shareholders and depositors, while also taking into consideration some of the issues which could be harmful for the competition between Islamic and conventional banks.
