  • The specific anthropomorphic mannequin (SAM) phantom was designed to provide a conservative estimation of the actual peak spatial specific absorption rate (SAR) of the electromagnetic field radiated from mobile phones. However, most researches on the SAM phantom have been based on early phone models. Therefore, we numerically analyze the SAM phantom to determine whether it is sufficiently conservative for various types of mobile phone models. The peak spatial 1- and 10-g averaged SAR values of the SAM phantom are numerically compared with those of four anatomical head models at different ages for 12 different mobile phone models (a total of 240 different configurations of mobile phones, head models, frequencies, positions, and sides of the head). The results demonstrate that the SAM phantom provides a conservative estimation of the SAR for only mobile phones with an antenna on top of the phone body and does not ensure such estimation for other types of phones, including those equipped with integrated antennas in the microphone position, which currently occupy the largest market share.

  • Construction monitoring is one of the key modules in smart construction. Unlike structured urban environment, construction site mapping is challenging due to the characteristics of an unstructured environment. For example, irregular feature points and matching prohibit creating a map for management. To tackle this issue, we propose a system for data acquisition in unstructured environment and a framework for Intensity and Ambient Enhanced Lidar Inertial Odometry via Smoothing and Mapping, IA-LIO-SAM, that achieves highly accurate robot trajectories and mapping. IA-LIO-SAM utilizes a factor graph same as Tightly-coupled Lidar Inertial Odometry via Smoothing and Mapping (LIO-SAM). Enhancing the existing LIO-SAM, IA-LIO-SAM leverages point's intensity and ambient value to remove unnecessary feature points. These additional values also perform as a new factor of the K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm (KNN), allowing accurate comparisons between stored points and scanned points. The performance was verified in three different environments and compared with LIO-SAM.

  • The aim of this study was to discover whether Yukmijihwangtang which was added Plygalae Radix, Acori graminei Rhizoma, has antioxidant effects on aged senescence-accelerated mouse (SAM) P8. The control group used 12 months old SAM P8 and the experimental group was treated with Yukmijihwangtang extracts from 8 to 12 months old. In the liver, the MnSOD of the control group were approximately 11% higher than that of the experimental group treated with herbal extracts, but CuZnSOD activities of the experimental group were approximately 20% higher than that of the control group. The catalase activities of the experimental group was approximately 67% higher than that of the control group. The hepatocytes, in the control group compared with the experimental group, contained the dilated cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulum and the abnormal mitochondira which had electron-dense matrix and indistinguishable cristae. The inner cavity of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum were slightly dilated, and a number of vacuoles and transitional vesicles occured in of the hepatocytes of the control group. These results suggest that the herbal extract has an antioxidant effects on the liver of SAM P8.

  • Nano adhesion between SPM (scanning probe microscope) tips and $DDPO_{4}$ (dodecylphosphoric acid ester) and $ODPO_{4}$ (octadecylphosphoric acid ester) SAM (self-assembled monolayer) was experimentally studied. Tests were performed to measure the nano adhesion and friction in both AFM(atomic force microscope) and LFM(lateral force microscope) modes with the applied normal load. $DDPO_{4}$ and $ODPO_{4}$ SAM were formed on TiMe and TiOx surfaces. TiMe and TiOx were coated on the Si wafer by ion sputtering. Adhesion and friction of $DDPO_{4}$ and $ODPO_{4}$ SAM surfaces were compared with those of OTS (octadecyltrichlorosilane) SAM and DLC surfaces. $DDPO_{4}$ and $ODPO_{4}$ SAM converted the TiMe and TiOx surfaces to be hydrophobic. When the surface was hydrophobic, the adhesion and friction forces were found lower than those of bare surfaces. Work of adhesion was also discussed to explain how the surface was converted into hydrophobic. Results also showed that tribological characteristics of $DDPO_{4}$ and $ODPO_{4}$ had good properties in the adhesion, friction, wetting angle and work of adhesion. $DDPO_{4}$ and $ODPO_{4}$ SAM could be one of the candidates for the bio-MEMS elements.

  • In previous studies we reported that the levels of RBC, hemoglobulin (HGB) and hematocrit (HCT) in SAM P6 were increased significantly from 7 day after oral administration of the pilose antler extract, 5 g/kg/day, and were lasted during the study. Thus, this study was performed to elucidate mechanism of erythropoietic action by the extract administration. SAM R1 and SAM P6 were chosen as experimental animals. At age of 12 weeks, pilose antler extract were given 0.3 and 5 g/kg/day (p.o.) each for 0, 7 and 14 days in both animals. Complete blood cells such as RBC, HGB, and HCT were counted. And plasma concentration of erythropoietin (EPO) which is the major regulator of erythropoiesis was measured using $^{125}I-antierythropoietin$ IgG. Total iron concentration in plasma was also analyzed. The levels of RBC and HCT were increased significantly after administration at both doses of 0.3 and 5 g/kg/day in SAM P6, however, these were increased only at dose of 5 g/kg/day in SAM R1. The plasma EPO concentration was increased significantly after administration in SAM P6. The plasma concentrations of total iron were significantly decreased after administration of the extract in SAM P6. These results suggest that the changes in erythropoietic effects after the administration of pilose antler extract may be mediated, at least in part, through the change in the plasma EPO.

  • The growth of Polypyrrole film has been investigated during electropolymerization in an aqueous solution on bare and SAM modified gold electrodes by in-situ EQCM and ex-situ AFM. According to the result of cyclic voltammetry measurements, in the case of a bare gold electrode, the electrochemical deposition of polypyrrole were dependent on the limiting oxidative potential, but not on scan numbers. When the limiting potential higher than 0.8 V was applied on the electrode, the amount of polypyrrole deposited on a gold electrode was rapidly increased and the abnormal mass change attributed to the rearrangement of polypyrrole films was observed as the scan number increased. The polypyrrole film Prepared on electrodes modified with 1-dodecanethiol SAM or thiophene SAM grew 3-dimensionally with the rearrangement of film. However, in the case of BPUS SAM, 2-dimensional layer-by-layer growth of film was observed without the rearrangement of film. AFM images showed films with chain-shaped and/ or donut-shaped polymers when grown rapidly and a wrinkled film at the steady state condition.

  • development of the aerospace industry is increasing the research of projectiles. In addition, many tests are under way and many failures occur accordingly. Projectiles should be able to minimize failures because they are more dangerous than other electronic equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to verify wiring before powering the projectile. Accordingly, the wiring status was verified by resistance measurements. However, the wiring test of the previous resistance measurement method cannot be accurately measured due to devices such as capacitors and inductors in the projectile circuit. In this paper, impedance is measured in the connection state of cables and projectiles using a TDR meter. The Z-Segmentation algorithm is used to set the reference value for the measured steady state impedance. The Z-Segmentation algorithm first finds the peak values of the impedance waveform using a Kalman filter and obtains the final impedance peak segment through segmentation. In this way, the wiring status is determined based on the reference value for the normal state of the wiring.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Accurate, early identification of acutely malnourished children has the potential to reduce related child morbidity and mortality. The current World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines classify non-oedematous acute malnutrition among children under five using Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) or Weight-for-Height Z-score (WHZ). However, there is ongoing debate regarding the use of current MUAC cut-offs. This study investigates the diagnostic performance of MUAC to identify children aged 6-24 months with global (GAM) or severe acute malnutrition (SAM). SUBJECTS/METHODS: Cross-sectional, secondary data from a community sample of children aged 6-24 months in Niger were used for this study. Children with complete weight, height and MUAC data and without clinical oedema were included. Using WHO guidelines for GAM (WHZ < -2, MUAC < 12.5 cm) and SAM (WHZ < -3, MUAC < 11.5 cm), the sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), predictive values, Youden Index and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated for MUAC when compared with the WHZ reference criterion. RESULTS: Of 1161 children, 23.3% were diagnosed with GAM using WHZ, and 4.4% with SAM. Using current WHO cut-offs, the Se of MUAC to identify GAM was greater than for SAM (79 vs. 57%), yet the Sp was lower (84 vs. 97%). From inspection of the ROC curve and Youden Index, Se and Sp were maximised for MUAC < 12.5 cm to identify GAM (Se 79%, Sp 84%), and MUAC < 12.0 cm to identify SAM (Se 88%, Sp 81%). CONCLUSIONS: The current MUAC cut-off to identify GAM should continue to be used, but when screening for SAM, a higher cut-off could improve case identification. Community screening for SAM could use MUAC < 12.0 cm followed by appropriate treatment based on either MUAC < 11.5 cm or WHZ < -3, as in current practice. While the practicalities of implementation must be considered, the higher SAM MUAC cut-off would maximise early case-finding of high-risk acutely malnourished children.
