A Study for Experiment to Measure Mechanical Properties of Pressurizer Nozzle and Safety-Ends in Nuclear Power Plant (원전 가압기 노즐 및 안전단 재료에 대한 기계적 물성시험 연구)

  • Recently the primary water stress corrosion cracking(PWSCC) has occurred in the dissimilar metal weld region between pressurizer nozzle and safe-end in nuclear power plants(NPPs). As material of the pressurizer nozzle, SA508 Gr. 3 low alloy steel was used. F316L stainless steel and Alloy 82/182 were used as safe-end and weld metal, respectively. Although mechanical properties are needed for evaluation of the structural integrity against flaw in the material, material specification and standard don't supply those properties. Therefore, the present study conducted tensile and fracture toughness tests on SA508 Gr.3 and F316L stainless steel at ambient temperature and operating temperature of NPPs and reported the tested results.

The IPA-based introductory survey and analysis for the safe fishery of the coastal gillnet fisheries (연안자망어업의 안전조업 방안에 관한 IPA 기반 기초연구)

  • This study analyzes the importance and implementation of countermeasures to reduce safety accidents that may occur during fishing in coastal gillnet fishing. Safety accidents that may occur in coastal gillnet fishing were classified into 56 measurement items in six areas: slips and trips, contact with machinery, falls, struck by object, musculoskeletal symptoms, and electrical shock. 35 fishermen belonging to coastal gillnet associations in Tongyeong and Namhae were selected as samples, and the importance and implementation of the proposed measurement items were investigated in the field. In addition, the results were evaluated visually by IPA analysis. As a result of the analysis, the importance of struck by object was the highest, and the implementation of slips and trips was the highest. On the other hand, prevention of musculoskeletal damage was found to be the lowest in both importance and implementation. The area with the most significant difference in importance and implementation by the classified area for measurement items was struck by object, and the area with the minor difference was slips and trips. Among the measurement items, the importance is highly recognized, but there are items with low implementation. To improve their level of implementation, countermeasures such as continuous education, economic support, and structural change of fishing boats should be prepared; moreover, policy support activities for implementation should be carried out.

A Rapid Method for the Measurement of $^{222}Rn$ in Groundwater and Hot Spring Water using Ultra Low-Level Liquid Scintillation Counter and Pulse Shape Analysis (극저준위 액체섬광계수기와 파형분석법을 이용한 지하수 및 온천수중 $^{222}Rn$의 신속측정법)

  • For the determination of $^{222}Rn$ in water by a very simple and time saving liquid scintillation counting method that does not require any chemical separation, an optimum analytical condition has been investigated. The optimum pulse shape analysis(PSA) level for the measurement of $^{222}Rn$ using LKB 1220 Quantulus liquid scintillation counter was 110 for Optiphase HiSafe3 cocktail and 90 for toluene-based cocktail. The counting efficiencies of $^{222}Rn$ in the window covering u spectra using Optiphase HiSafe3 cocktail were 282.2% for glass vial and 271.6% for Teflon vial, whereas the counting efficiencies in toluene-based cocktail were 262.3% and 247.5% for glass and Teflon vials, respectively. The minimum detectable activity(MDA) in the u window for a 60-min measurement with a Teflon vial using Optiphase HiSafe3 cocktail was $0.30Bq/{\iota}$. The analytical method studied from this work was also applied to the determination of $^{222}Rn$ in some groundwater and hot spring water samples.

Reclassification of Winter Barley Cultivation Zones in Korea Based on Recent Evidences in Climate Change (최근의 기후변화를 고려한 가을보리 안전재배지대 구분)

  • Recent warm winters were evaluated for a possible shifting of the northern limit for winter barley cultivation in Korea. Therefore, safe zones for winter barley cultivation were reclassified based on the average and minimum January air temperature in recent years. The results are as follows: By analysis of mean values of January average air temperatures for 30 years (1971-2000), the northern limits for safe cultivation of hulled, naked, and malting barley were Ganghwa - Icheon - Chungju - Chunyang - Goseong, Cheonan - Geumsan - Mungyeong - Andong - Sokcho, and Gwangju - Jangheung - Sancheong - Pohang - Uljin lines, respectively. Meanwhile, based on the January average air temperature of 14 years (1987-2000) with warmer winters, the safe cultivation zone of winter barley shifted northward of the normal (1971-2000). So, the northern limits for hulled, naked, and malting barley were Pocheon - Chuncheon - Wonju - Yangpyeong - Chunyang, Ganghwa - Icheon - Chungju - Uiseong - Goseong, and Gunsan - Suncheon - Jinju - Miryang - Yeongdeok - Uljin lines, respectively. Winter barley cultivars with the strongest tolerance to low temperature can be grown up to the adjacent areas of Taebaek Mountains (that is, Inje, Hongcheon, Jecheon, and Taebaek areas). Based on January mean air temperatures of 10-year return period for 30 years (1971-2000), the northern limits for hulled and naked barley were Boryeong - Namwon - Geochang - Gumi - Goseong and Seocheon - Jeongeup - Hapcheon - Yeongdeok - Sokcho lines, respectively. It ~ppears that malting barley can be cultivated only at southern coastal areas (that is, Busan, Tongyeong, Yeosu, and Wando areas). On the other hand, based on the weather conditions of 14 years (1987-2000) with warmer winters, the northern limits for hulled, naked, and malting barley were Ganghwa - Icheon - Yeongju - Goseong, Seosan - Namwon - Mungyeong - Andong - Sokcho, and Gwangju - Jangheung - Sacheon - Ulsan - Uljin lines, respectively. The northern limit for winter barley cultivars including Olbori with the strongest tolerance to low temperature was the Ganghwa - Wonju - Chungju - Chunyang - Goseong line.

A Study of Real Ship Experiments to Estimate the Heeling Angle of Passenger Type Ship when Turning (여객선형의 선회 중 횡경사 추정에 관한 실선 실험 연구)

  • Passenger ships and training ships have a common feature in that they serve many passengers. Thus, safe navigation is very important. During normal sailing, a ship may turn using various types of steering, including maneuvers to avoid collisions with dangerous target. When a ship turns, a heeling angle occurs. If trouble arises during sailing, a dangerous heeling angle may result or a capsizing accident. In this study, the heeling angle during turning was measured through experimentation with two training ships similar to passenger ships. These findings were compared with theoretical formulas for heeling angle when turning. We confirmed that the limit of the maximum heeling angle estimation using heeling angle formula when turning presented in IMO stability criteria. In addition, it was confirmed that the maximum estimated heeling angle can be reached by applying the result calculated in the theoretical formula 1.4 times when turning right and 1.1 times when turning left to reflect sailing speed when of rudder hard over. It is expected that this study will provide basis data for establishing safe operation standards for the prevention of dangerous heeling angles when turning.

Performance Evaluation of the Cast-in-place Anchor Bolt in Non-cracked Concrete used in Power Plant Facilities (비균열 콘크리트에 매립된 발전설비 정착부 선 설치 앵커의 구조성능 평가)

  • The seismic performance and stability of operating facilities installed in domestic power plants need to be verified because of the increased incidence of earthquakes resulting in power plant damage due to the overturning failure of electric operating facilities. In this study, a structural performance evaluation of the anchor bolts constructed to setup the operating facilities on concrete slabs was carried out through an on-site inspection of power plants, called Daechung-Dam. M10 J hook and M12 J hook anchor bolts were installed in the field unit. According to the ASTM E 488-96 specifications, anchor bolt pullout and shear tests were carried out and compared with the anchor-bolt design standards. The results from the tension and shear pullout tests showed that the M10 and M12 J hook anchor bolts had higher performance than the required design load. Thus, they were found to be safe enough. Nevertheless, more research in the field of analytical study will be needed in the near future.

Treatment of a Carotid-Cavernous Sinus Fistula via the Superior Ophthalmic Vein Approach: A Case Report (상안정맥을 이용한 해면정맥동루의 색전술 치험례)

  • Purpose: Arteriovenous fistulas that involve the cavernous sinus often produce ophthalmologic symptoms and signs. Transvenous endovascular access is the method of choice for a carotid-cavernous sinus fistula. The superior ophthalmic vein is a safe and reasonable alternative route for the transvenous embolization of carotid-cavernous sinus fistula. We report a case of the embolization of a carotid-cavernous sinus fistula using the superior ophthalmic vein approach. Methods: A 58 year old female had conjunctival congestion, periocular pain and diplopia with a 2 month duration. Diagnostic orbital CT, brain MRI and cerebral angiography revealed a carotid-cavernous sinus fistula. The fistula occlusion was treated by coil embolization using the superior ophthalmic vein approach. Results: The initial presenting symptoms, conjunctival congestion, periocular pain and diplopia, decreased after surgery. Coil embolization via the superior ophthalmic vein approach was difficult because of the venous tortuosity and friability. During the follow up period, the patient was in a good condition without complications. Conclusion: Surgical exposure of the superior ophthalmic vein provides direct venous access to the cavernous sinus as well as an effective and safe treatment approach. The cooperation of the plastic surgeon and interventionist is a factor in successful treatment.

A Study on the Interface between a G7 Pantograph and a KTX Catenary System in Preparation for G7 On-line Tests in the Korea High Speed Test Track (고속 시험선 구간에서의 G7 본선 시운전에 대비한 G7 팬터그래프와 KTX 가선계와의 인터페이스 연구)

  • It is necessary to perform a study on the interrace between a G7 pantograph and a KTX catenary system prior to G7 on-line tests in the Korea High Speed Test Track in order to predict how high current collection quality can be obtained during the on-line tests and check if safety problems shall be caused b)Y the tests or not. According to the simulation results, current collection quality of the G7 pantograph at 350km/h is lower than that of a GPU pantograph at 300km/h, but the contact wire uplifts and average contact forces are within the safe-zone. In addition, the ratio of running speed (350km/h) to safe running. Therefore, the G7 on-line tests at 350km/h in the Korea High Speed Test Track is expected not to cause the safety problem.

An Analysis of Shielding Design of TRIGA Mark-II Reactor

  • Korea's TRIGA Mark-Ⅱ reactor was primarily designed in 1950's and was constructed in 1962 for 100 kw thermal output, but it was upgraded to 250 kw in July 1969. Nevertheless, the shield remains unchanged, although the radiation level has increased. The result of computation On this paper shows that, with the existing shield, it is safe for the fast neutrons even after the power upgrading by 2.5 times. It is, however, somewhat dangerous for the gamma rays which are comprised of primary and secondary. For the analysis of the reactor shielding design, an attempt is made for the computation toward the horizontal direction. From theoretical point of view, it can be concluded that some layer of additional shield must be reinforced to the existing concrete in order to be radiologically safe in the reactor hall.

  • In this paper, we have studied the ship collision avoidance support on the basis of 'Ship Collision Avoidance Model considered a Speed' for the purpose of the decrease of the human error, caused ship collisions, at sea and the effective support of avoiding ship collisions. The program has been reflected the speed of a target ship, had not been considered in a preceding study. Besides, the program will effectively support a maneuver for a collision avoidance, through the display of a feasible area and the method of a collision avoidance using the own ship's turning characteristic about the action of target ship's course and velocity.
