  • Optically accessible D. I. diesel engine with a rectangular combustion chamber was constructed to visualize the behaviors of sprays and flames in the combustion camber with the close conditions of pressure and temperature in an actual engine. The behaviors of sprays and flames in the combustion chamber as the operating conditions of this engine were photographed with high speed camera by Diffused Background Illumination Method. With photographs taken by this method, behavior of spray droplets injected into the combustion chamber, ignition points, and flame propagation were observed and analyzed at a time-and space-dependent fashion.

ENGINE CONTROL USING SPEED FEEDBACK

  • In this article we present a new, reference model based, unified strategy for engine control. Three main modes are considered: first is the driver control mode where the driver controls the engine via the pedal position; second is the dashpot mode, that is, when the driver takes his foot off the pedal; and, lastly is the idle speed control mode. These modes are unified so that seamless transitions between modes now becomes possible. The unification is achieved due to the introduction of a reference model for the engine speed whereby only the desired engine speed is different for different modes while the structure of the control system remains the same for all the modes. The scheme includes an observer that estimates unknown engine load torque. A proof of robustness with respect to unknown load disturbances both within the operating modes and during intermode transitions is given.

  • LPG has been well known as a clean alternative fuel for vehicles. As a fundamental study on liquid phase LPG injection (hereafter LPLI) system application to heavy-duty engine, engine output and combustion performance were investigated with various operating conditions using a single cylinder engine equipped with the LPLI system. Experimental results revealed that no problems were occurred in application of the LPG fuel to heavy-duty engine, and that volumetric efficiency and engine output, by 10% approximately, were increased with the LPLI system. It was resulted from the decrease of the intake manifold temperature through liquid phase LPG fuel injection. These results provided an advantage in the decrease of the exhaust gas temperature, in the control of knocking phenomena, spark timing and compression ratio. The LPLI engine could normally operated under $\lambda$=1.5 or EGR 30% condition. The optimized swirl ratio for the heavy duty LPG engine was found around R_s$ = 2.0.

  • The propulsion diesel engine have been widely applied with a mechanical governor to control the truck speed for a long time. But it was recently very difficult for mechanical governor to control the speed of long stock and diesel engine of truck because of hunting by dead time between fuel injection and power output. This study is aimed to configure the modeling for performance simulation regarding to diesel truck operation which could be suppressed for hunting. The modeling have been made on the base of dynamic characteristic such as electronic governor, injection of fuel system and operating states of diesel engine truck. Real model system have been introduced for deciding reacting parameters and for the comparison of resulting performance in simulation. In results of simulation, we obtained items which diesel truck drives for suppressed hunting.

  • When engine oil is used under severe running condition, the Lubricational characteristics is very important. I have studied the Lubricational characteristics with Compound Additives of engine oil for the Falex wear test machine. Adding detergent (Ca-phenate) to engine oil, the seizure is more improved than in case of non-adding, and adding Zn-DTP (Zinc dialkyl dithio phosphate), the extreme pressure property is excellent at the high load. But when the PTFE (Polytetra Fluoro Ethylene) and MoS$_{2}$ (Molybdenum disulfide) are added, the temperature characteristics and the anti-wear property become excellent because the stability can be maintained in a high temperature. The result are as follows, it can be improved that when the compound of the Ca-phenate and Zn-DTP, MoS$_{2}$, PTFE, etc. was added to engine oil, the lubrication characteristics become better. It is argued that it is improved because of excellence of the anti-wear, the extreame pressure properties and the heat stability.

  • In this study an air flow meter was developed for MPI engine using ultrasonic sensors. The major characteristcs of the ultrasonic flow meter are high speed response, flow direction recognition and linear output. The air flow rate measurements were conducted at upstream of the throttle and intake manifold. The characteristics of the ultrasonic flow meter are compared with those of the Bosch hot wire flow meter at both steady and unsteady engine conditions.

  • A commercial DOHC four valve engine was modified to make a single-cylinder optical model engine with replaceable head. Three kinds of head were used to generate swirl, tumble, and combined swirl/tumble motion. Schlieren visualization technique was applied to characterize the in-cylinder flow qualitatively. Particle Image velocimetry has been developed and applied for the quantitative flow measurements. Axial and tangential flow motion inside the cylinder has been characterized. The swirl/tumble port shows beneficial results in terms of turbulence generation for the initial flame propagation and mean swirl motion for the overall flame propagation.

  • 대규모 웹 서비스의 등장으로 데이터의 규모가 점차 증가하는 추세이다. 이러한 대규모 데이터를 효율적으로 관리하기 위해 MySQL과 MariaDB와 같은 DBMS가 주로 사용되고 있으며, 이들은 데이터 관리를 위한 스토리지 엔진으로 InnoDB를 주로 사용한다. InnoDB는 ACID를 보장할 뿐만 아니라 대규모 데이터 처리에 적합하다는 장점이 있기 때문이다. InnoDB의 경우, I/O 성능 향상을 위해 버퍼 풀을 통해 데이터와 인덱스를 캐싱하며 락 경쟁(lock contention)을 줄이기 위해 다중 버퍼 풀을 지원한다. 그러나 다중 버퍼 풀 기법은 데이터 일관성 오버헤드를 증가시킨다. 본 논문에서는 다중 버퍼 풀 기법의 오버헤드를 분석한다. 실험 결과, 다중 버퍼 풀 기법을 사용함에 따라 락 경쟁이 최대 46.3%까지 완화되었지만 디스크 I/O와 fsync 명령이 증가하면서 DBMS의 처리량이 50.6%까지 떨어지는 현상을 확인하였다.

  • 제2보 (2)에서는 식물유를 연료로 사용할 경우 문제점인 시동성, 내구성 및 카본생성을 억제하기 위하여 물리적인 방법으로 해결책을 모색하였다. 그러나, 본 연구는 기관자체는 전혀 변형시키지 않고, 점도저감을 위하여 화학적인 방법 즉, 식물유를 알콜과 반응시켜 에스테르변 환을 하여 해결하려는 방법으로, 에스테르화한 연료를 사용하였을 때의 기관성능 및 카본 퇴적 문제를 비교, 시험한 것이다. 또, 기름이 식물유와 같이 지방산으로 이루어져 있다면, 어느 기름도 에스테르 변환이 가능하기 때문에, 생선기름인 정어리기름의 에스테르연료도 사용하여 그 이용 가능성을 확실히 하였다. 또한, 각종 연료의 연소성에 관하여 보다 상세한 검토를 하기 위하여, 이들의 연소율 파형을 2개의 Wiebe의 연소함수의 조합으로 표현함과 동시에 연소율 파형을 구성하는 각 변수를 해석함으로써, 기관성능치와 연소성과의 정량적인 관계에 대해서도 조사한 것이다.

  • This Research focuses on how to maximize fuel economy improvement of I.S.G. while keeping 12V system. With 12V system the maximum gain of fuel economy with I.S.G. is known to be about 3~5% in FTP-75 mode because engine stop is only conducted in standstill idle. But in this study deceleration engine stop (engine speed is zero) has been tried additionally and the optimum condition for deceleration engine stop was found to maximize fuel economy improvement in practical point of view, the result of which is about 8.8% in FTP-75.
