Deleuze and Guattari's Death, the Minor Literature and the Minor Philosophy of Education (소수자 문학과 문학교육의 과제)

  • This essay examines the relationship between death and the minor literature and the minor philosophy of education. Deleuze and Guattari conceive death as the source of question and the problem. Death overcomes Freud's death-drive and is conceived as the universal event. Then, death is understood as the essential problem, the condition of thought about life, and the paradox of actuality. On the other hand, their minor literature is able to figure in Kafka's works, Metamorphosis and so on, excellently. Deleuze and Guattari argue that Kafka's works push ahead to the edge of the deterritorization. Their argument on the minor literature has the following three characteristics: first, the territorization of the language; second, the directional connection between the individual and the social; third, the collective arrangement of the statement. Death and the minor literature share the "intensity" as the theoretical tool and thus presuppose each other. From this, we are able to draw the possibility of the minor philosophy of education. It makes a crack on the major philosophy of education, exposing the limitation of the doctrines. In other words, the major philosophy of education enforces the reading of grand philosophers by the defined ways only. Instead, Deleuze and Guattari show the creative way through their research of the history of philosophy and extend the field of thought. In following this way, we can repeat the novel in the philosophy of education also. In this essay, we examine their "affect" for the possibility.

Arthroscopic Treatment of Isolated Teres Minor Tendon Tear: A Case Report

  • Arthroscopic repair of an isolated teres minor tendon tear without associated shoulder joint pathology has not been reported in the literature. We report on a case of isolated teres minor tendon tear after trauma. The patient complained of severe shoulder pain and progressive limited range of motion 4 months after the injury. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a full-thickness tear of the teres minor tendon at its musculotendinous junction and arthroscopic repair was performed. At 2 years follow-up, satisfactory clinical and radiological outcomes were observed with return to pre-injury level. Here, the authors report this case and provide a review of literature.

Molecular Identification and Morphological Description of Gymnothorax minor (Muraenidae, Anguilliformes) Leptocephali off Jeju Island (제주 근해에서 채집된 나망곰치, Gymnothorax minor (뱀장어목, 곰치과) 엽상자어의 분자동정 및 형태기재)

  • Two leptocephali (36.2~69.2 mm in total length) of the family Muraenidae were collected off Jeju Island, Korea. They were identified using 742 base pairs of mitochondrial DNA 12S rRNA sequences, and their morphological description were presented. The two leptocephali were identified to Gymnothorax minor based on genetic distance (d=0.000), being well consistent with that of G. minor adult collected off Tongyeong. Gymnothorax minor leptocephali are characterized by morphological combinations: total myomeres 137~139, predorsal myomeres 32, preanal myomeres 82~86, body depth in total length more than 10%.

Occurrence of Sclerotinia Rot in Solanaceous Crops Caused by Sclerotinia spp.

  • Solanaceous crops grown in greenhouses and fields in Korea were surveyed from 1994 to 2000. Sclerotinia rot most severely occurred up to 60% in potato. Incidence of the disease was as high as 20% at its maximum in tomato and 5% in eggplant, but as low as less than 1% in red pepper. Symptoms of Sclerotinia rot commonly developed on stems of the solanaceous crops but rarely on fruits of eggplant and tomato. A total of 169 isolates of Sclerotinia species was obtained from the diseased solanaceous crops. Out of the isolates, 165 isolates were identified as S. sclerotiorum, and the others as S. minor based on their morphological and cultural characteristics. S. sclerotiorum was isolated from all the solanaceous crops, while S. minor was only isolated from tomato. Eight isolates of S. sclerotiorum and two isolates of S. minor were tested for their pathogenicity to the solanaceous crops by artificial inoculation. All the isolates of the two Sclerotinia spp. induced rot symptoms on stems of the solanaceous crops tested, which were similar to those observed in the fields. The pathogenicity tests revealed that there was no significant difference in the susceptibility of the solanaceous crops to the isolates of S. sclerotiorum. However, in case of S. minor, the potato cultivar Sumi was relatively less susceptible to the pathogen.

  • Cruciferous crops grown in greenhouses and fields in Korea were surveyed from 1995 to 2000. Sclerotinia rot most severely occurred up to 30% in cabbage. Incidence of the disease was as high as 20% at its maximum in Chinese cabbage and rape and 10% in radish, but as low as less than 1 or 2% in broccoli and kale. Symptoms of Sclerotinia rot commonly developed on loaves and stems of the crucifers, but rarely on rachises of broccoli. A total of 112 isolates of sclerotinia species was obtained from the diseased crucifers. Out of the isolates, 103 isolates were identified as S. sclerotiorum, and the rest as 5. minor based on their morphological and cultural characteristics. S. sclerotiorum was isolated from all the crucifers, while S. minor was isolated from Chinese cabbage, broccoli, and kale. Six isolates of S. sclerotiorum and three isolates of S. minor were tested for their pathogenicity to the crucifers by artificial inoculation. All the isolates of the two Sclerotinia spp. induced rot symptoms on the plants of the crucifers tested, which were similar to those observed in the fields. The pathogenicity tests revealed that there was no significant difference in the susceptibility of the crucifers to the isolates of S. sclerotiorum. However, in case of S. minor, radish was relatively less susceptible to the pathogen.

In vitro Evaluation of Phalaris minor Seeds as Livestock Feed

  • The nutritional worth of Phalaris minor seeds was assessed in comparison to conventional cereal grains like maize and wheat. P. minor seeds had higher total ash and cell wall constituents as compared to wheat and maize grains. The CP content of P. minor was comparable to wheat grains but higher than maize grains. The in vitro studies revealed that the net gas production and availability of ME from P. minor was comparable to that of maize but the digestibility of nutrients was significantly (p<0.05) lower than that of conventional cereal grains. The digestion kinetic parameters for DM and CP revealed that P. minor had the highest (p<0.05) soluble fraction (a) followed by wheat and maize. Reverse trend was observed for insoluble but potentially degradable fraction (b). The effective and true DM and CP degradability was significantly (p<0.05) higher in wheat grains followed by that in P. minor and maize grains. The digestibility of OM and NDF was not affected by replacing cereal grains in concentrate mixture with P. minor seeds up to 75 per cent level. But the availability of ME from concentrate mixtures was comparable to control only up to 50% level of replacement. Replacement of cereal grains with P. minor did not affect the rapidly soluble fraction and insoluble but potentially degradable fraction of concentrate mixture containing P. minor up to 75 per cent, but it was depressed significantly at 100% replacement level. The effective and true degradability of DM of concentrate mixtures containing P. minor from 50 to 100 per cent was comparable to that of conventional concentrate mixture (CCM). The wheat based concentrate mixtures showed higher net gas production (208 vs. 201 ml/g DM/24 h), digestibility of nutrients and ME availability (9.64 vs. 9.54 MJ/kg DM) as compared to maize based concentrate mixture. The wheat based concentrate mixture had significantly (p<0.05) higher rumen undegradable fraction and effective degradability. The data conclusively revealed that conventional cereal grains could be replaced with P.minor seeds up to 75 per cent without affecting the availability of nutrients.

  • One fungal isolate CM2 parasitic to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and S. minor causing Sclerotinia rot of lettuce was identified as Paraconiothyrium minitans based on its morphological and molecular characteristics. P. minitans CM2 grew best on PDA with pH 6.5 at $22^{\circ}C$ under alternating cycles of 12 hr near ultraviolet light and 12 hr darkness. Scleroria of S. sclerotiorum and S. minor treated with conidial suspension of P. minitans CM2 did not directly germinate and produced no apothecia.

Psychiatric Characteristics of Adolescents with Minor Offenses and Follow-Up after a 6-Month Protective Disposition (1, 2호 보호 처분 청소년의 정신의학적 특성 및 6개월 보호처분 후 추적조사)

  • Objectives : This study investigated the differences between the psychiatric characteristics of minor juvenile offenders and normal adolescents as well as differences in psychiatric symptoms after a six month protective disposition. Further, the current study aimed at determining psychiatric screening methods for evaluating delinquent adolescents. Methods : The Latent Delinquency Questionnaire (LDQ), the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale (RCMAS), the Children’s Depression Inventory (CDI), the Reynolds Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (SIQ), the Piers-Harris Children's Self Concept Inventory (SCI), and the Korean Youth Self Report (K-YSR) were administered to 134 normal adolescents (114 males) and 109 minor offenders (97 males) aged 12 to 16 years. After six months, 46 offenders (all males) completed the RCMAS, CDI, SIQ, and SCI again. Results : Adolescents with minor offenses had more delinquent, aggressive behavior and externalizing behavior problems, but were significantly less depressive, anxious, or suicidal than normal controls. Further, recidivists had more anxiety, depression, and delinquent behavior than non-recidivists. Minor offenders reported that their anxiety and depressive mood decreased after six months of protective disposition. Conclusion : Adolescents with minor offenses had more delinquent, aggressive behavior and externalizing behavior problems suggesting that psychiatric screening tools for minor offenders should measure disruptive behavior disorder.

  • Purpose: The study examined the effect of dynamic taping and Kinesio Taping intervention on round shoulder posture, pectoralis minor length, craniovertebral angle, and balance in 20s adults with rounded shoulder posture. Methods: A total of 20s Adults with rounded shoulder posture were recruited and randomized to Group I (n = 15) and Group II (n = 15). Group I performed dynamic taping. Group II performed Kinesio Taping. Round shoulder posture and pectoralis minor length were measured using a tape measure. The craniovertebral angle was measured using a goniometer. Balance was measured using Biorescue. Results: As a result of comparison within groups, groups I and II showed a significant difference for round shoulder posture, pectoralis minor length, craniovertebral angle, and balance after the experiment (p < 0.05). In a comparison between the two groups, the experimental group showed a more significant difference in round shoulder posture, pectoralis minor length, craniovertebral angle, and balance than the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that dynamic taping intervention was effective in round shoulder posture, pectoralis minor length, craniovertebral angle, and balance in 20s adults with rounded shoulder posture.
