  • The paper deals with the interaction between three Griffith cracks propagating under antiplane shear stress at the interface of two dissimilar infinite elastic half-spaces. The Fourier transform technique is used to reduce the elastodynamic problem to the solution of a set of integral equations which has been solved by using the finite Hilbert transform technique and Cooke’s result. The analytical expressions for the stress intensity factors at the crack tips are obtained. Numerical values of the interaction efect have been computed for and results show that interaction effects are either shielding or amplification depending on the location of each crack with respect to other and crack tip spacing. • In this paper, we introduce a unit root test via discrete cosine transform in the AR(1) process. We first investigate the statistical properties of DCT coefficients under the stationary AR(1) process and the random walk process in order to verify the validity of the proposed method. A bootstrapping approach is proposed to induce the distribution of the test statistic under the unit root. We performed simulation studies for comparing the powers of the Dickey-Fuller test and the proposed test.

  • A method for inverting the Laplace transform is presented, using a finite series of the classical Legendre polynomials. The method recovers a real-valued function f(t) in a finite interval of the positive real axis when f(t) belongs to a certain class ${\mathcal{W}}_{\beta}$ and requires the knowledge of its Laplace transform F(s) only at a finite number of discrete points on the real axis s > 0. The choice of these points will be carefully considered so as to improve the approximation error as well as to minimize the number of steps needed in the evaluations. The method is tested on few examples, with particular emphasis on the estimation of the error bounds involved.

  • A novel method for recognition, characterization, and quantification of deterioration in bridge components and laboratory concrete samples is presented in this paper. The proposed scheme is based on grey level co-occurrence matrix texture analysis using Haar's discrete wavelet transform on concrete imagery. Each image is described by a subset of band-filtered images containing wavelet coefficients, and then reconstructed images are employed in characterizing the texture, using grey level co-occurrence matrices, of the different types and degrees of damage: map-cracking, spalling and steel corrosion. A comparative study was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of the supervised maximum likelihood and unsupervised K-means classification techniques, in order to classify and quantify the deterioration and its extent. Experimental results show both methods are relatively effective in characterizing and quantifying damage; however, the supervised technique produced more accurate results, with overall classification accuracies ranging from 76.8% to 79.1%.

  • In this paper, we considered newly the use of wavelet transform in order to improve the troubles of the established methods for the analysis of ultrasound echo signals. We made the phantoms of 13.2g, 19.8g, 26.4g, 33.0g, 39.8g by ourselves, and extracted the only pulse-echo signals that reflected through the mediums using windowing technique. For determining the characterized value, the signals were wavelet transformed, absoluted, and integral calculated. As the result, we acquired characterized value of each signals, and acknowledged the differences among them except of some datas. But this will be improved by advanced work as sellecting a proper mother wavelet, a method of making phantoms, correcting the various errors, etc. We expect that wavelet transform is powerful for analysis of ultrasound signals.

  • Characteristics of precipitation in Seoul have been examined by using long-term observational data. Precipitation records from modern rain gauges were used for 1908-1996, together with the traditional Korean rain gauge (called Chukwookee) observations for 1777-1907. A linear trend analysis of seasonal total rainfall shows no significant trends over the last 200 years A wavelet transform analysis was performed to figure out the transient variations of precipitation.

  • In this paper, a new approach for systolic array realizing the discrete cosine transform (DCT) based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of an input sequence is presented. The proposed array is based on a simple modified DFT(MDFT) version of the Goertzel algorithm combined with Kung's approach and is proved perfectly. This array requires N cells, one multiplier and takes N clock cycles to produce a complete N-point DCT and also is able to process a continuous stream of data sequences. We have analyzed the output signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and designed the circuit level layout of one-PE chip. The array coefficients are static adn thus stored-product ROM's can be used in place of multipliers to limit cost as eliminate errors due to coefficients quantization.

  • This paper describes a affine transform coding which is reducing long time to take on image encoding by using scaling method and limited search area technique. For evaluating its performance, the proposed algorithm compare with Jacquin's method using traditional affine transform coding methods. Simulation results, the proposed algorithm considerably reduces encoding time by using scaling method and limited search area method. Also, the proposed algorithm provides much shorter encoding time with a little degradation of the decoded image quality than Jacquin's method.

  • The phase retrieval problem is concerned with the reconstruction of a signal or its fourier transform phase form the fourier transform magnitude of the signal. This problem does not have a unique solution, in general. If, however, the desired signal is minimum-phase, then it can be decided uniquely. This paper shows that we can make a minimum-phase signal by adding a delta function having a large value at the origin of an arbitrary one-dimensional signal, and a two-dimensional signal can be uniquely specified from its fourier transform magnitude if it is added by a delta function having a large value at the origin, and finally we can solve a two-dimensional phase retrieval problem by decomposing it into several ine-dimensional phase retrieval problems.

  • This paper presents the feature extraction of fault current related to the multi-shot reclosing scheme in the power distribution system. Fourier transform is used to extract the feature of the fault current waveform in the case of the temporary fault and the permanent fault. After the waveform is analyzed using Fourier transform, the magnitude spectrum and the relative variation of THD are calculated. These results are that the relative variation of THD is great in the temporary fault and is little in the permanent fault.
