  • In this study, we focused on myomoduline A (MMA) released from the central nervous system of Aplysia kurodai. The primary structure of MMA is Pro-Met-Ser-Met-Leu-Arg-Leu-$NH_2$. This peptide is the same as that of the myomodulin family peptide found in other mollusks. The purified MMA showed a modulating activity of phasic contraction on the anterior byssus retractor muscle (ABRM) of Mytilus edulis. In order to study the relationship between the structure and biological activity of MMA, we synthesized MMA, Des[$Pro^1$]-MMA, Des[$Pro^1,Met^2$]-MMA, Des[$Pro^1,Met^2,Ser^3$]-MMA, and MME. The amino acid sequences of Des[$Pro^1$]-MMA, Des[$Pro^1,Met^2$]-MMA, and Des[$Pro^1,Met^2,Ser^3$]-MMA were Met-Ser-Met-Leu-Arg-Leu-$NH_2$, Ser-Met-Leu-Arg-Leu-$NH_2$, and Met-Leu-Arg-Leu-$NH_2$, respectively. MMA and synthetic peptides were tested on ABRM in M. edulis as well as muscle preparations in Achatina fulica. At $1{\times}10^{-8}$ M or lower, MMA showed a potentiating effect on phasic contraction of the ABRM, but this peptide had an inhibitory effect at $1{\times}10^{-6}$ M or higher. Both MMA and its analogs stimulated a contractile response on the crop and a relaxed catch-relaxing response on the penial retractor muscle of A. fulica. These results suggest that Met-Leu-Arg-Leu-$NH_2$ in MMA is the minimum structure required for the regulation of the contraction of ABRM, as well as the reproductive and digestive activities of mollusks.

  • One of the key issues in the research of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) is the low-voltage operation. To address this issue, we synthesized poly(styrene-r-benzocyclobutene-r-methyl methacrylate) (P(S-r-BCB-r-MMA)) as a thermally cross-linkable gate dielectrics. The P(S-r-BCB-r-MMA) showed high quality dielectric properties due to the negligible volume change during the cross-linking. The pentacene FETs based on the 34 nm-thick P(S-r-BCB-r-MMA) gate dielectrics operate below 5 V. The P(S-r-BCB-r-MMA) gate dielectrics yielded high device performance, i.e. a field-effect mobility of $0.25cm^2/Vs$, a threshold voltage of -2 V, an sub-threshold slope of 400 mV/decade, and an on/off current ratio of ${\sim}10^5$. The thermally cross-linkable P(S-r-BCB-r-MMA) will provide an attractive candidate for solution-processable gate dielectrics for low-voltage OFETs.

  • Narrowly dispersed poly(BMA-co-MMA) and PBMA latices (PSD : 1.002~1.008) were synthesized successfully by surfactant-free emulsion polymerization with 2,2' azobis(2-methyl-propionamidine) dihydrochloride (AIBA) and $K_2S_2O_8$ (KPS). The number average particle diameter and the number average molecule weight were found to be 160~494 nm and (1.25~7.55) ${\times}10^4$, respectively. The influences of BMA/MMA ratio, monomer and initiator concentrations, addition of DVB/EGDMA crosslink agent, and polymerization temperature on the polymerization rates and on the particle size and molecular weight were studied. The rate of polymerization increased with increasing MMA concentration in BMA/MMA weight ratio. The particle diameter as well as the polymer molecular weight could be controlled easily by controlling the BMA/MMA weight ratio, monomer concentration, AIBA and KPS concentration, and polymerization temperature.

  • The bulk photopolymerization of methyl methacrylate(MMA) with bis(silane)s such as 1,4-$C_6H_4(SiH_3)_2$ (1) and 1,4-$C_6H_4(SiH_2Me)_2$ (2) was performed to produce poly(MMA)s possessing the corresponding bis(silyl) moiety as an end group. For the bis(silane)s, while the polymerizaiton yields and the polymer molecular weights decreased, the TGA residue yields and the relative intensities of Si-H IR stretching bands increased as the relative bis(silane) concentration over MMA increased. The polymerizaion yield, polymer molecular weight, and TGA residue yield of MMA with 1 were found to be higher than those with 2. The bis(silane)s appears to influence significantly upon the photopolymerization of MMA as both chain initiation and chain transfer agents.

  • This paper related with the performance evaluation of mSE-MMA (modified Signed Error-Multi Modulus Algorithm) adaptive equalization algorithm which is possible to reduce the distortion that is occurs in nonlinear communication channel like as additive noise, intersymbol interference and fading. The SE-MMA algorithm are emerged in order to reducing the computational load compared to the presently MMA algorithm, it has the degraded equalization performance by this. In order to improve the performance degradation of SE-MMA, the mSE-MMA controls the step size according to the existence of arbitrary radius circle of equalizer output is centered at transmitted symbol point. The performance of proposed mSE-MMA algorithm were compared to present SE-MMA using the same channel and noise environment by computer simulation. For this, the recoverd signal constellation which is the output of equalizer, residual isi and MD (Maximum Distortion), MSE learning curve which is represents the convergence performance and SER which is represents the roburstness of noise were used as performance index. As a result of simulation, the mSE-MMA has more superior to the SE-MMA in every performance index, and was confirmed that mSE-MMA has roburstness to the noise in the SER performance than SE-MMA especially.

  • This paper related with the VSS_SE-MMA (Varying Step Size_Signed Error-MMA) which possible to improving the equalization performance that employing the varying adaptive step size based on the nonlinearities of error signal of SE-MMA (Signed Error-MMA), compensates the intersymbol interference by distortion occurs at the communication channel, in the transmitting the spectral efficient nonconstant modulus signal such as 16-QAM. The SE-MMA appeared to the reducing the computational arithematic operation using the polarity of error signal in the updating the tap coefficient of present MMA adaptive equalizer, but have a problem of equalization performance degradation. The VSS_SE-MMA improves the problem of such SE-MMA, using the varying step size consider the error signal in the update the adaptive equalizer tap coefficient, and its improved performance were confirmed by simulation. For this, the output signal constellation of equalizer, the residual isi and maximum distortion, MSE and SER were applied. As a result of computer simulation, it was confirmed that the VSS_SE-MMA algorithm has nearly same in convergence speed and has more good performance in every performance index at the steady state.

  • Thermodynamics and gas transport properties of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) blends with polyvinylmethylether (PVME) containing various amount of poly (styrene-b-methylmethacrylate) copolymer (P(S-b-MMA)) as a compatibilizer were studied. To extract interaction energies of binary pairs involved in the blends from the phase separation temperatures using an equation-of-state theory, PVME blends with methylmethacrylate copolymers containing various amount of styrene (SMMA) were prepared. PVME formed miscible blends with methylmethacrylate copolymers containing more than 70 wt% styrene and these miscible blonds showed a LCST-type phase separation behavior. Based on the interaction information obtained here, P(S-b-MMA) copolymer was added to the PMMA/PVME blends to enhance their compatibility. The average diameter of the dispersed rubber particles was gradually decreased for the blends of containing P(S-b-MMA) from 0 to 5 phr and then leveled off at a fixed size. At a fixed bland composition, the gas permeation was also increased as the P(S-b-MMA) content increased from 0 to 5 phr and then leveled off when the P(S-b-MMA) content was higher than 5 phr.

  • This paper related with the CR-MMA which is possible to improving the equalization performance by applying the concept of constellation reduction in the MMA adaptive equalization alogorithm in order to reduce the intersymbol interference that is occurred in the nonlinear communication channel. In the updating process of MMA adaptive equalizer, the error signal is being obtained by using the equalizer output, and the performance will be degraded by the increase the error signal in the high order QAM constellation. But by using the constellation reduction, the high order QAM signal will be changed to the 4-QAM signal constellation and then the error signal will be obtained. By doing so, the error signal will be minimized and it is possible to improve the equalization performance in the high order QAM transmitted signal. The Computer simulation was performed in order to compare the performance of the proposed CR-MMA algorithm and original MMA algorithm in the same communication channel and noise environment. For this, the recoverd signal constellation which is the output of equalizer, residual isi and MD (Maximum Distortion) learning curve which is represents the convergence performance and SER which is represents the roburstness of noise were used. As a result of simulation, the CR-MMA has more superior to the MMA. And it was confirmed that the CR-MMA has roburstness to the noise in the SER performance.

  • This paper compares the equalization algorithm of CR-MMA (Constellation Reduction-Multi Modulus Algorithm) and RMMA (Region based Multi Modulus Algorithm) for the compensation of channel's distortion in nonconstant modulus signal. In order to obtain the error signal for adaptive equalization, every signal points are reduced to the constant modulus signal in CR-MMA and every signal points are separated into the 4 regions, then the reductions are performed based on this region in RMMA. These two algorithm based on the reduction principle such as in order to updating the tap coefficient in the adaptive equalization, it has different equalization performance. The computer simulation was performed in order to compare the each equalization performance in this paper. As a result of computer simulation, RMMA has more good performance in the residual isi, maximum distortion and SER performance than CR-MMA, but not in convergence speed.

  • The bulk photopolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with para-substituted phenylsilanes such as F-C6H4SiH3 (1), H3C-C6H4SiH3 (2), and H3CO-C6H4SiH3 (3) was performed to produce poly(MMA)s containing the respective silyl moiety as an end group. For all the hydrosilanes, the polymerization yields and the polymer molecular weights decreased, whereas the TGA residue yields and the relative intensities of Si-H IR stretching bands increased as the relative silane concentration over MMA increased. The polymerization yields and polymer molecular weights of MMA with 1-3 increased in the order of 3 < 1 < 2. These hydrosilanes influence significantly upon the photopolymerization of MMA as both chain-initiation and chain-transfer agents.
