  • Many bacteria colonized in the horse semen affect quality of the sperm and some may cause infection in the mare reproductive tract and infertility of susceptible mare. This study was initiated to determine the prevalence of bacteria in testes of Jeju horses by determining rRNA sequence. The samples were swabed from the testes of nine Jeju horses (aged from 8 to 12 months after birth). Bacteria isolated from testes were identified by 16S rDNA sequencing. 1.6-kbp PCR products for 16S rRNA coding region were obtained using the universal primers. The PCR products were further purified and sequenced. Maximum similar species were found by BLAST search in the GenBank DNA database. BLAST results showed that the sequences were similar to those of Acinetobacter sp (A. schindleri, A. ursingii)., Bacillus cereus, Corynebacterium glutamicum, Escherichia coli, Gamma proteobacterium, Micrococcus luteus, Pseudomonas mendocina, Shigella sonnei, Sphingomonas sp., Staphylococcus sp (S. cohnii, S. saprophyticus, S. xylosus)., and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. DNA sequences for 16S rRNA is provided useful informations for species identification of pathogenic microorganisms for the reproductive organs in horses.

  • Morphological classification of echinoid species has many difficulties because of their phenotypic variations. In the present study, we analyzed morphotypes and partial mitochondrial 12S rDNA sequences of four sea urchin species classified as Pseudocentrotus depressus, Anthocidaris crassispina, Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus and Strongylocentrotus nudus, and unidentified four species collected from the coasts of the East sea. Their genomic DNAs were extracted from gonads and mitochondrial 12S rDNA sequences were amplified by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. The sequence identities among the known four sea urchin species were 87.4-95.6%. The sequence identities among the unidentified four species were 99.4-99.6% and showed the highest homology to S. intermedius(99.8%). Thus, our phylogenetic tree indicates that the unidentified four species belong to S. intermedius.

  • The "Eco-friendly", "Green" concepts was began around 1992 after the Rio Environmental Summit, and the need for sustainable development globally widespread. The green building certification system was began around 2000 and the concept of green building was started in the late 1990s. The green building, which welcomes a period of radical change, is for the survival of the Earth "climate change" and reducing energy consumption in building sector. In this architecture of eco-friendly concept, the green building is rapidly expanding and existing as a ecological environment preservation. Moreover, the realization of zero energy house is to mandate for new buildings in 2025. The aim of further eco-friendly is through the prior ecosystems to restore and product energy for the 9 Green Building model houses in this paper. Building in the concept of ecology is to show about change into 7R's from the 3R's. The "Reduce", "Reuse", "Recycle" consisting of "3R's" is correlated with the traditional to the present Green Building Design. U.S. NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) change into the concept of 7R's as "Receive", "Restore", "Respect" and "Remember", added to "3R's". In this paper, the 9 Green Building model houses do not meet the criteria of 7R's. But, the Green Tomorrow of Samsung C & T Corporation meet the 6 criteria for 7R's. This company is most comfortable at low carbon Green Building model houses. Conclusionally, introduction of eco-friendly technologies and amenities for the health of human and natural community life is to advance eco-friendly construction and enhance brand value of housing. By the way, The problem of eco-friendly architecture is initial investment and maintenance. Therefore, eco-friendly architecture and government has to try solving of this difficulty.

  • The woody tissue respiration rates in stems ($R_{stem}$) of red pine (Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc.) forest in Higashi-Hiroshima, west Japan, were measured using an open flow measurement system with several chambers in two seasons (the winter and summer in 2002). $R_{stem}$ ranged from 0.25 to $0.55{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ in winter, and from 1.25 to $1.63{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ in summer. The variability of $R_{stem}$ among the sampled trees (n=15) was similar between the two seasons, with the coefficient variation of about 23%. The numbers of sampling points required to estimate the stem respiration rate within 10 to 20% of its actual value were 24 and 6, respectively in both seasons (probability level is 95%). Based on the relationship between stem temperature and average $R_{stem}$ the $Q_{10}$ values of the winter and summer seasons were 1.49 and 1.45, respectively. The $R_{20}$($R_{stem}$ at $20^{\circ}C$ of stem temperature) was higher in summer ($1.23{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$) than winter ($0.61{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$). The woody tissue respiration in stems of red pine trees during the summer season amounted about 50% of the total respiration rates.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify parental factors associated with smartphone overuse in preschoolers. Methods: A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA guidelines. Relevant studies published in peer-reviewed journals from 2009 to June 2019 were identified through systematic search in 10 electronic databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Central, EMBASE, Web of Science, NDSL, KISS, KMbase, KoreaMed, and RISS). Standardized effect sizes were calculated to quantify the associations of parental factors with smartphone overuse in preschoolers using meta-analysis. Results: A total of 30 cross-sectional studies involving 7,943 participants met the inclusion criteria. The following were negatively correlated with smartphone overuse in preschoolers: mother's parenting self-efficacy (r=-.35), mother-child attachment (r=-.28), mother's positive parenting behavior (r=-.28), mother's positive parenting attitude (r=-.25), and father's parenting involvement (r=-.15). Further, maternal factors such as smartphone addiction tendency (r=.41), parenting stress (r=.40), negative parenting behavior (r=.35), negative parenting attitude (r=.14), smartphone usage time (r=.26), employment status (r=.18), and age (r=.12) were positively correlated with smartphone overuse in preschoolers. Conclusion: Several parental factors influence smartphone overuse in preschoolers. These findings emphasize the need to assess and enhance the parental factors identified in this study to prevent smartphone overuse in preschoolers. Accordingly, we recommend the development of preventive interventions to strengthen parent-related protective factors and mitigate risk factors.

  • The advanced glycation endproducts receptor (AGE-R) is a signal transduction receptor for multiligand such as S100b and AGEs. S100b has been demonstrated to activate various cells with important links to atherosclerosis initiation and progression including endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells via AGE-R, triggering activation of multiple signaling cascades through its cytoplasmic domain. Many studies have suggested AGE-R might even participate in the cardiovascular complications involved in the pathogenesis of type I diabetes. Recently, Small Ubiquitin-Related Modifier 1 (SURM-1 also known as SUMO-1) has been recognized as a protein that plays an important role in cellular post-translational modifications in a variety of cellular processes, such as transport, transcriptional, apoptosis and stability. Computer Database search with SUMOplot Analysis program identified the five potential SURMylation sites in human AGE-R: K43, K44, K123, and K273 reside within the extracellular domain of AGE-R, and lastly K374 resides with the cytosolic domain of AGE-R. The presence of the consensus yKXE motif in the AGE-R strongly suggests that AGE-R may be regulated by SURMylation process. To test this, we decided to determine if AGE-R is SURMylated in living vascular cell system. S100b-stimulated murine aortic vascular smooth muscle cells were used for western blot analysis with relevant antibodies. Taken together, bioinformatics database search and molecular biological approaches suggested AGE-R is SURMylated in living cardiovascular cell system. Whilst SURMylation and AGE-R undoubtedly plays an important role in the cardiovascular biology, it remains unclear as to the exact nature of this contribution under both physiological and pathological conditions.

  • Our experimental subject was a laryngectomee who had undergone total laryngectomy with $PROVOX^{(R)}$ insertion, and learned esophageal speech after the surgery, so he could produce both $PROVOX^{(R)}$ voice and esophageal voice. With this subject's production of $PROVOX^{(R)}$ and esophageal voice, we are to compare the acoustic and aerodynamic characteristics of the two voices, under the same physical conditions of the same person. As a result, the fundamental frequency of esophageal voice was 137.2 Hz, and that of $PROVOX^{(R)}$ was 97.5 Hz. $PROVOX^{(R)}$ voice showed lower jitter, shimmer and NHR than esophageal voice, which means that $PROVOX^{(R)}$ voice showed better voice quality than esophageal voice. In spectrographic analysis, the formation of formants and pseudoformants were more distinct in esophageal voice and several temporal aspects of acoutic features such as VOT and closure duration were more similar with normal voice in $PROVOX^{(R)}$ voice. During the sentence utterance, esophageal voice showed longer pause or silence duration than $PROVOX^{(R)}$ voice. Maximum phonation time and mean flow rate of $PROVOX^{(R)}$ voice were much longer and larger than esophageal voice, but mean and range of sound pressure level, subglottic pressure and voice efficiency were similar in the two voices. Glottal resistance of esophageal voice was much larger than $PROVOX^{(R)}$ voice which showed still larger glottal resistance than normal voice.

  • In order to express exactly the total resistance of bottom trawl nets subjected simultaneously to the water flow and the bottom friction, the influence of frictional force was added to the formular for the flow resistance of trawl nets obtained by previous papev and the experimental data obtained by other investigators were analyzed by the formula. The analyzation produced the total resistance R (kg) expressed as $$R=4.5(\frac{S_n}{S_m})^{1.2}S\;v^{-1.8}+20(Bv)^{1.1}$$ where $S(m^2)$ was the wall area of nets, $S_m\;(m^2)$ the cross-sectional area of net mouths, $S_n\;(m^2)$ the area of nets projected to the plane perpendicular to the water flow, B (m) the made-up circumference at the fore edge of bag parts, and v(m/sec) the dragging velocity. From the viewpoint that expressing R in the form of $R=kSv^2$ was a usual practice, however, the resistant coefficient $k(kg{\cdot}sec^2/m^4)$ was compared with the factors influencing it by reusing the experimental data. The comparison gave that the coefficient k might be expressed approximately as a function of BL only and so the resistance R (kg) as $$R=18{\alpha}B^{0.5}L\;v^{1.5}$$ where L (m) was the made-up total length of nets and $\alpha=S/BL$. But the values of a in the nets did not deviate largely from their mean, 0.48, for all the nets and so the general expression of R (kg) for all the bottom trawl nets could be written as $$R=9\;B^{0.5}\;L\;v^{1.5}$$.
