Oviduct-specific Glycoprotein 1 Locus is Associated with Litter Size and Weight of Ovaries in Pigs

  • Oviduct-specific glycoprotein 1 (OVGP1) is implicated in playing a role in fertilization and early embryo development. In this study, we have obtained the sequence of intron 9 of OVGP1 gene in swine. Comparative sequencing of Meishan (a native Chinese breed) and Large White pig breeds revealed an A/T substitution at position 943. A PCR-EcoRI-RFLP assay was developed to detect this mutation. Polymorphism analysis in Qingping animals showed that pigs with BB genotype had lower number of piglets born alive (NBA) in multiple parities than pigs with AA (p<0.05) and AB genotype (p<0.01). In Large $White{\times}Meishan$ ($LW{\times}M$) $F_2$ offspring, the weight of both ovaries (OW) of the BB genotype was significantly lighter than that of AB (p = 0.05) and AA (p<0.01) genotypes. Analysis of the data also revealed that the mutation locus affected these two traits mostly by additive effects. These studies indicated that the polymorphism was associated with NBA and OW in two distinct populations and further investigations in more purebreds or crossbreds are needed to confirm these results.

  • Purpose - This study is to verify the impact of the documentation of key audit matters on the value relevance of accounting information in accordance with the revised accounting audit standards in 2017. Investors will be able to identify the company's significant financial risks through key audit matters and use them to make investment decisions. Design/methodology/approach - From 2011 to 2019, the final sample is 290, based on the December settlement of accounts listed on the securities market. Ohlson (1995) was used to verify the incremental link between net income and the book value as a determinant of corporate value. Findings - First, the key audit matters in the financial industry was found to have a negative (-) effect that was significant to the value relevance of accounting Information. In addition, the value of the interaction between the key audit matters and the net income is a significant (+) relationship with the share price and the value of the interaction between the key audit matters and the book value is a significant (-) relationship with the share price. This means that the key audit matters is the determining factor of corporate value, positively reflects the accounting information in net income and negatively reflects the accounting information in book value. Second, among the key audit matters, the fair value assessment of financial instruments and the adequacy of premiums reserve have a significant impact on the value relevance of accounting information. Research implications or Originality - The results of this study suggest that investors recognize key audit matters as information about the company's major financial risks and reflect them differently in the value relevance of accounting information.

효율성을 개선한 신원기반의 3자간 복수 키 합의 프로토콜 (An Efficiency Improved ID-based Tripartite Key Agreement Protocol)

  • Pairing을 이용한 신원기반의 공개키 암호시스템에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되면서 신원기반의 다양한 키 합의 프로토콜이 제안되었으나, 대부분의 기법들이 키 합의 프로토콜에서 요구되는 보안 요구사항을 만족하지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 그리고 최근 Liu 등과 Kim 등은 한 번의 프로토콜의 수행을 통해 복수개의 키를 설정할 수 있는 키 합의 프로토콜을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서는 Liu 등의 기법을 개선한 신원기반의 3자간 복수개의 키 합의 프로토콜을 제안한다. Liu 등의 기법과 유사하게 키 교환 메시지에 서명을 추가하지만 Liu 등의 기법보다 효율적인 프로토콜의 수행이 가능하다. 그리고 제안 프로토콜은 서로 다른 여러 키 발급센터(Private key generator, PKG)들이 관여하는 환경에서도 프로토콜의 수행이 가능하며, 프로토콜에 참여하는 각 개체들이 자신의 소속에 따라 별개의 키 발급센터로부터 발행된 개인키를 사용할 수 있으므로 보다 실용적이며 효율적으로 적용될 수 있다.

Genome-wide DNA methylation pattern in a mouse model reveals two novel genes associated with Staphylococcus aureus mastitis

  • Objective: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is one of the major microorganisms responsible for subclinical mastitis in dairy cattle. The present study was designed with the aim to explore the DNA methylation patterns using the Fluorescence-labeled methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism (F-MSAP) techniques in a S. aureus-infected mouse model. Methods: A total of 12 out-bred Institute of Cancer Research female mice ranging from 12 to 13 weeks-old were selected to construct a mastitis model. F-MSAP analysis was carried out to detect fluctuations of DNA methylation between control group and S. aureus mastitis group. Results: Visible changes were observed in white cell counts in milk, percentage of granulocytes, percentage of lymphocytes, CD4+/CD8+ ratio (CD4+/CD8+), and histopathology of mice pre- and post-challenge with S. aureus. These findings showed the suitability of the S. aureus-infected mouse model. A total of 369 fragments was amplified from udder tissue samples from the two groups (S. aureus-infected mastitis group and control group) using eight pairs of selective primers. Results indicated that the methylation level of mastitis mouse group was higher than that in the control group. In addition, NCK-associated protein 5 (Nckap5) and transposon MTD were identified to be differentially methylated through secondary polymerase chain reaction and sequencing in the mastitis group. These observations might play an important role in the development of S. aureus mastitis. Conclusion: Collectively, our study suggests that the methylation modification in Nckap5 and transposon MTD might be considered as epigenetic markers in resistance to S. aureus-infected mastitis and provided a new insight into S. aureus mastitis research in dairy industry and public health.

20(S)-Ginsenoside Rh2 displays efficacy against T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signal pathway

  • Background: T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a kind of aggressive hematological cancer, and the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway is activated in most patients with T-ALL and responsible for poor prognosis. 20(S)-Ginsenoside Rh2 (20(S)-GRh2) is a major active compound extracted from ginseng, which exhibits anti-cancer effects. However, the underlying anticancer mechanisms of 20(S)-GRh2 targeting the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway in T-ALL have not been explored. Methods: Cell growth and cell cycle were determined to investigate the effect of 20(S)-GRh2 on ALL cells. PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway-related proteins were detected in 20(S)-GRh2-treated Jurkat cells by immunoblotting. Antitumor effect of 20(S)-GRh2 against T-ALL was investigated in xenograft mice. The mechanisms of 20(S)-GRh2 against T-ALL were examined by cell proliferation, apoptosis, and autophagy. Results: In the present study, the results showed that 20(S)-GRh2 decreased cell growth and arrested cell cycle at the G1 phase in ALL cells. 20(S)-GRh2 induced apoptosis through enhancing reactive oxygen species generation and upregulating apoptosis-related proteins. 20(S)-GRh2 significantly elevated the levels of pEGFP-LC3 and autophagy-related proteins in Jurkat cells. Furthermore, the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway was effectively blocked by 20(S)-GRh2. 20(S)-GRh2 suppressed cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis and autophagy by suppressing the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway in Jurkat cells. Finally, 20(S)-GRh2 alleviated symptoms of leukemia and reduced the number of white blood cells and CD3 staining in the spleen of xenograft mice, indicating antitumor effects against T-ALL in vivo. Conclusion: These findings indicate that 20(S)-GRh2 exhibits beneficial effects against T-ALL through the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and could be a natural product of novel target for T-ALL therapy.

키유도함수의 통계적 난수성 평가 방법 (A Method of Statistical Randomness Test for Key Derivation Functions)

  • 암호시스템에 사용되는 알고리즘의 기본적인 안전성 평가 항목은 난수성이다. 미국의 표준기술원 NIST는 차세대 암호알고리즘 AES를 선정하는 과정에서 블록암호의 난수성을 통계적으로 평가할 수 있는 패키지를 제안하였다. 이 패키지는 입출력 길이가 동일한 함수인 블록암호에 적합하도록 구성되어 있으므로 대부분 확장된 출력 길이를 갖는 키유도함수의 난수성 평가에 그대로 적용하는 것은 무리가 있다. 본 논문에서는 입력 길이보다 확장된 다중 블록을 출력하는 대표적인 암호 구성 요소인 키유도함수에 적합한 통계적 난수성 평가 방법으로 NIST의 방식을 개선한 것을 제안한다. 그리고 제안된 방법에 의하여 3GSM과 NIST에서 표준으로 권고하고 있는 키유도함수에 대한 통계적 난수성 평가결과를 제시한다.

An Efficient Downlink MAC Protocol for Multi-User MIMO WLANs

  • Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) technology has recently attracted significant attention from academia and industry because of it is increasingly important role in improving networks' capacity and data rate. Moreover, MU-MIMO systems for the Fifth Generation (5G) have already been researched. High Quality of Service (QoS) and efficient operations at the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer have become key requirements. In this paper, we propose a downlink MU-MIMO MAC protocol based on adaptive Channel State Information (CSI) feedback (called MMM-A) for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). A modified CSMA/CA mechanism using new frame formats is adopted in the proposed protocol. Specifically, the CSI is exchanged between stations (STAs) in an adaptive way, and a packet selection strategy which can guarantee a fairer QoS for scenarios with differentiated traffic is also included in the MMM-A protocol. We then derive the expressions of the throughput and access delay, and analyze the performance of the protocol. It is easy to find that the MMM-A protocol outperforms the commonly used protocols in terms of the saturated throughput and access delay through simulation and analysis results.

A New Roaming Authentication Framework For Wireless Communication

  • Roaming authentication protocol is widely used in wireless network which can enable a seamless service for the mobile users. However, the classical approach requires the home server's participation during the authentication between the mobile user and the foreign server. So the more the roaming requests are performed the heavier burden will be on the home server. In this paper, we propose a new roaming authentication framework for wireless communication without the home server's participation. The new roaming authentication protocol in the new framework takes advantage of the ID-based cryptography and provides user anonymity. It has good performance compared with the roaming authentication protocols whose authentication do not need the home server's participation in terms of security and computation costs. Moreover, a new User-to-User authentication protocol in the new framework is also present. All the authentications proposed in this paper can be regarded as a common construction and can be applied to various kinds of wireless networks such as Cellular Networks, Wireless Mesh Networks and Vehicle Networks.
