Soft rot occurred severely in onion bulbs stored under low temperature ($5^{\circ}C$) in storage houses at Changyoung, Kyungnam province, Korea in early 2000. Water-soaking and yellowish-brown lesions initially appeared on the outside scales of diseased onion bulbs, gradually progressing into the inside scales. Among the bacterial isolates obtained from the lesions, K-2 isolate was found to be responsible for the disease, which grew at a temperature range of from $0^{\circ}C$ to $36^{\circ}C$ with optimum temperature of $00^{\circ}$-$33^{\circ}C$. However, it showed strong pathogenicity to onion bulbs at $25^{\circ}C$ and $5^{\circ}C$ at 3 days and 2 months, respectively. The bacterium also caused soft rot on potato and showed hypersensitive reactions to tobacco and potato. The causal bacterium of onion soft rot was identified as Pseudomonas marginalis based on morphological, biochemical, and physiological characteristics including LOPAT, Soft rot in onion under low temperature storage caused by P. marginalis has not been previously reported.
The purpose of this study is to present a new orientation for the residential culture that can meet the shifting demands of modern people as their attitudes toward life change. One of the rural regions that has lately attracted considerable attention, Wonsam-myun, Yongin city, is selected as the residence zone to develop a housing complex. In this study, a new housing complex is designed to supplement the defects of existing housing complexes by making the utmost use of the merits that Wonsam-myun as a residential environment can offer. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: 1. To present a new Korean model, yellow soil houses and traditional trees were used to utilize Korea's traditional landscape beauty in the construction and landscape aspect, instead of imitating indiscreetly foreign styles in which most newly developed housing complexes were built. 2. To provide convenience to prospective residents, a package sales scheme covering from lot purchase to building permit was adopted. 3. As for the planting plan, existing plants was preserved as much as possible to keep harmony with new plants. In selecting plant types, a traditional method that emphasizes on the visual effects of aesthetic plants and shade trees with the change of seasons and plants various kinds of plants according to directions was adopted. 4. Each household was given the opportunity to design its own garden according to the family's preference and taste. 5. The advantages of a rural area that city does not offer were fully utilized to provide the residents with convenience and pleasure of living.

There are many advantages to unit-care welfare facilities' care services for the elderly in Japan. The field research was conducted after holding interviews with employees at five elderly welfare facilities in Japan. This research analyzes the space arrangement of unit-care welfare facilities in Japan's Tohoku rural area. The purpose of this study is to provide design data on the space arrangement of a unit-care facility for Korea. The results of research are as follows. 1. Cafes, restaurants, and stores were operated in the elderly welfare facilities, which were open to the general public as well. Therefore, local residents frequently visited. 2. The kitchen, living rooms, private bedrooms and construction of the elderly welfare facilities were similar to that of normal residential houses. 3. The event hall is conveniently located at the center of the facility. 4. It was easy to understand the health status of the elderly by having a health office in the open living room. 5. There were open spaces which are frequently used by the homebound elderly, including room rehabilitation, daycare and short term residence. The above results will be used for space planning data in Korean unit-care facilities.

This study is to solve this problem, as the center of China in the east started the investigation. In eastern China : rapid economic growth, Population is concentrated, Migration of rural population to large cities. So I chose this as the survey area. Including central and eastern China : Shandong Province, Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province, Anhui Province, Jiangxi Province and Shanghai. Research studies as a whole is divided into three main parts: The first is the basic situation of rural housing survey. Including : housing age, wall materials, roof form, house equipment, housing composition, etc. Then home for further investigation of these houses exist in the main room on the device and the joint space problems. Finally, to address these issues, the survey specifically classified as a pure compound the family home and two cases. Through interviews, to understand the survey requirements for housing improvement. Finally, comparison summary, conclusion.
The Direct Payment Program for Rural Landscape Conservation (DPPRLC), introduced by the Korean government, currently offers subsidies to rural villages to encourage the growing of flower crops or wild flowers instead of common grain. However, in many of these villages, major landscape elements like walls and roofs of houses are built with cheap, urban materials, and kept in poor condition. This is a poor reflection of the DPPRLC goal to improve the aesthetic of korean rural landscape. This study surveyed and analyzed traditional style walls and roofs in ten selected villages taking part in the DPPRLC program. Villagers were interviewed for a proposed direct payment program for building and maintaining traditional walls and roofs. Major findings are: First, more than 86% of residents are willing to build and maintain traditional walls if subsidies are given. They would like to be reimbursed 75% to 100% of construction and maintenance costs. Second, about 64% of residents would be willing to build and maintain traditional roofs with the subsidies. They also would like to receive 75% to 100% of construction and maintenance costs. The policy implication of this study is that extending the DPPRLC program to include walls and roofs in rural villages will make rural landscape more attractive.

In rural areas, in spite of the development projects of town and houses has been performed after the New Community Movement, due to rapid industrialization and urbanization, which lasted until the 2000s from the 1980s, out-migration to the cities, changes in the industrial structure, rapid aging was carried. As a result, the gap of housing environment between urban and rural areas became more serious. The meantime, the housing problem is recognized only to the problems of the big cities, mostly urban public housing policy oriented. However, when you check the indicator of the housing environment, such as the percentage of aging housing, rural environment has become a relatively poor compared to the city. In addition, due to a decrease in income and aging of the population living in rural areas of existing infrastructure to improve the living environment is weakened. And inside of the rural areas, changes in the housing environment and polarization phenomenon is becoming increasingly serious. Therefore, in this study, there is a purpose to be presented the improvement direction for efficient implementation of house remodeling support program for underprivileged group in rural areas and requires immediate attention improvement of housing environment. Previously, House remodeling support project in rural areas was carried out at the initiative of local governments and government mainly. For this reason, it is difficult due to limited institutional, to reflect the necessary parts directly to the real life of the residents. And, the demand for improvement of housing environment need modifications to solve the inconvenience of life of residents directly in many cases. It is considered that community-based house remodeling support project is to be carried out through the participation of local residents.
The above results indicate that vegetable crop production using vinyl houses continously increases. However, technical support and facility improvement are still insufficent to establish a full production system. In order to improve the cultural environment in facilities for better vegetable culture, several facters should be considered. 1. Facility design and arrangement should be made to improve micro-environments for crop growth and development because direction of facility and covering materials can affect the amount of light trasmitted into vinyl houses. 2. Cultivation of several leading varieties in each crop may not provide stable production and profit especially under undesirable environmental conditions. Thus, it is required to grow not only leading varieties but also other cultivars to decrease the economic losses. 3. Crops should be carefully managed when planted in early season not to experience low temperatures which induce growth retards. Early season cultivation requires proper selection of cultivars which are resistant to low temperture. 4. Active control of micro-environment in facilities should be made via improving the ventilation and irrigation systems.

People are making multilateral efforts to create beautiful agricultural landscapes. In farming villages, however, large-scale facilities or houses do not blend in with the natural environment because of their outer colors, which are mostly primary colors that are not chosen in consideration of the natural environment. This was addressed in the three following steps: 1) Research tool was used to identify predominant colors and images that represent various types of rural areas; 2) landscape experts conducted a feasibility study and pilot study on using these colors; and 3) the main study was done by investigating how local people and out-of-town visitors perceive the colors. The villages involved in the development projects were mostly represented by achromatic colors, meaning white, black, and variations of gray. Also, adjectives such as "modern" were shown to be keywords that symbolize the atmosphere. Less developed villages had more greenish colors and "natural" as their keyword. Developed villages in suburban areas were mainly represented by shades of blue and green, while less developed ones were mainly represented by green and yellow. In special types of rural areas, developed and developing were represented by achromatic and green colors, whereas less developed ones were represented by green and blue. Respondents were also asked 1) whether they were satisfied with their village's current overall color scheme and 2) whether they thought there was harmony between the surrounding natural environment and artificial structures. People responded with "so so" for the first question, while some answered "not good enough" and "no" for the second.

The purpose of this study was to provide practical data for proposing the housing environment support policy, fit for returners-to-village. For the purpose, this study focused the patterns of returners-to-village according to their experience of rural life, and their ways of settlement like planning and getting land and house. The questionnaires were answered by 91 persons who were living in Chungbuk area, and were analyzed chi-analysis on their socio-demographic characteristics according to experience of rural life, preparation of settlement and construction. The ANOVA were used to analyze their pattern of return according to experience, the period for getting house, and their satisfaction level of house size. The results were as follows. First, the returners showed differentiated tendency according to their experience of rural life, in their age, family life cycle, education level and income source after return. The experience of rural life explained the purpose of return and the living pattern after return. Direct experience group was mostly occupational farmer; indirect experience group mostly pursued good health & green life; non experience group mostly pursued green life. Second, the experience of rural life also explained differentiated tendency of returning preparation. In raising money, direct experience group mostly raised it privately but indirect or non experience group mostly used bank loan. Third, the returners mostly constructed new houses; non experience group almost constructed newly, but there were cases to utilize existing or vacant house in direct experience group, and indirect experience group favored existing house or remodeling of vacant house.

This paper is a series of study for the development of rural elementary school facilities model applying to the regional characteristics. Therefore, main theme of this paper is to pile up and analysis of elementary school facilities data in Po Cheon through a series of actual survey and interview with teachers. The results are summarized as follows ; First of all, in case of Po Cheon, it needs to study for urban model type as well as rural elementary school facilities model type. Second, extension type of buildings has separated as three types-zigzag extension type, vertical & horizontal extension type, separate building type. But another characteristics, such as type of site plan, type of corridor and module of classroom unit, outdoor space and elevation design, are monotonous. Third. the results of this analysis show that it is desirable to locate houses for teachers within boundaries. Finally, the future paper needs to be studying more various module of classroom unit, extension type, space program, type of floor plan and site plan.
