Test and Evaluation of the Pantograph for Korean High Speed Train (한국형 고속전철 집전장치의 성능 계측 및 평가)

  • The pantograph for Korean High Speed Train was developed by home-grown technology. In this study, test and evaluation of the current collection performance of the pantograph is conducted. For this purpose, a measuring system is developed and installed on the prototype high speed train. Measurement is conducted while the train runs on the test track. The measuring system is composed of video monitoring system and telemetry & data processing system. It monitors the hazard behavior of the pantograph and measures acceleration and vertical force of the pan head. By applying the measuring system, accurate evaluation of the performance of the pantograph and safety assessment of the interface system of pantograph and catenary is facilitated.

Forced Oscillation Wind Tunnel Test of a 50m Length Airship (50M급 비행선의 강제진동 풍동시험)

  • An airship is statically unstable, because it has no wing, relatively small tails and a large hull. Hence, an accurate prediction of dynamic stability is critical. In this study, dynamic stability data of the 50m Length Airship were acquired through forced oscillation wind tunnel tests. The tests were done in Birhle Applied Research Inc's Lange Amplitude Multi-Purpose(BAR LAMP) Facility located in Germany. The tests were composed with 16 static runs and 26 dynamic runs. As results, it is obtained that dynamic characteristics of the airship depend on the sideslip angle, the angular rate and its direction as well as the angle of attack. Generally, three directional moments have damping, but the normal force, the side force, and the cross-derivatives are unstable. The dynamic derivatives are not sensitive to the control surfaces, but nonlinear to the sideslip angle.

  • The main objective of this paper is to study the application of runs to the analysis of hydrologic data. The stochastic structure of annual hydrologic data is investigated using the statistical properties of run-length for various truncation levels. Observed relative frequencies of run-length at each station are copared with the calculated and approched to the calculated. Also, it can be shown to estimate the durations of wet and dry years by the probabilities of run-length for a given truncation level. Annual precipitation data were obtained from the stations where have relatively long records, and stream flow data were generated by Markov model. The results of hypothesis test with run-lengths show independence of annual hydrologic series and Markov model can be applied to generate annual stream flow at Hyunpung, Waekwan and Gyuam.

  • Concurrency and synchronization problems are often caused by database applications concurrently accessing databases managed by DBMS. Most commercial DBMSs support isolation levels to resolve these problems. Verification of isolation levels are most important because consistency and integrity constraints of the database can be violated according to isolation levels of transactions that consists of database applications. We propose a test tool set to verify and reveal faulty settings of isolation levels and implement a prototype of the test tool set. The proposed tool set analyzes the SQL statements of ESQL/C programs, attaches the test codes to verify isolation levels, runs the test transactions and detects errors.

  • Wind tunnel testing for flow-through model is necessary for performance prediction of an aircraft with air-breathing jet engine. Internal drag correction and wall correction are performed to acquire preciser wind tunnel test data. Many test runs are generally required to correct internal drag and wall interference in wind tunnel test. In this study we investigated more effective correction schemes using the response surface method. Even though the number of tests required for these schemes was much smaller than that for conventional methods, the differences between corrections using these schemes and conventional methods were similar level with the uncertainty of measurement except for the data near the boundaries.

  • The unit modular method is one in which unit modules are prefabricated at a factory and then constructed at a construction site. That is why an important process, transporting unit module, is added in this method. The purpose of this study is to analyse the load for transporting unit module. The results of the analysis of the driving experimental runs revealed that a maximum load of 15 kN was applied on adapter block type A and a maximum load of 25 kN on adapter block type B. These loads were recorded at the points in the road test when the low-bed trailer was driving through unstable sections of the test such as stopping, restarting, passing over a speed bump or taking a left turn at speed.

  • Line Balancing is the problem to assign tasks to stations while satisfying some managerial viewpoints. Most researches about the Mixed-Model Line Balancing problems are focused on the minimizing the total processing time or the number of workstations. Independently, some research reports consider the balance issues of the physical workloads on the assembly line. In this paper, we are presenting a new mathematical model to accomplish the line balance considering both the processing time and the workloads at the same time. To this, end, we propose an zero-one integer program problem, and we use the Chebyshev Goal Programming approach as the solution method. Some computational test runs are performed to compare the pay-offs between the processing time and the workloads. And, the test results show us that the reliable balanced work schedules can be obtained through the proposed model.

The Effect of Oxygen Administration on Cerebrum Lateralization in Verbal Task (언어 과제 수행 시 산소 공급이 대뇌 편측화에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study attempted to observe what changes the supply of highly concentrated(30%) oxygen cause to people's ability and cerebrum lateralization of verbal cognition, compared to air of normal oxygen concentration(21%). The experiment consisted of two runs, one for verbal cognition test with normal air(21% of oxygen) and for verbal cognition test with more oxygen in the air(30% of oxygen). Functional brain images were taken form 3T MRI using the single-shot EPI method. There were more activations observed at the occipital, parietal, temporal, and frontal lobes, but there were no changes in cerebrum lateralization with 30% oxygen administration. The result of task performance showed the accuracy increased at 30%'s concentration of oxygen rather than 21%'s. It is concluded that the positive effect on the verbal cognitive performance level by the highly concentrated oxygen administration was due to changeless increase of left and right cerebrum activation.

  • Gas turbine systems are applied extensively in energy supplies to cover peak load requirements. The gas turboset must be accelerated by starting device up to 60%~80% of rated speed to ignite the gas turbine. Recently, the most favorable and economical starting device is the LCI(Load Commutated Inverter). The LCI runs up the gas turboset by feeding the generator as a synchronous motor. In this paper, we discuss in detail the driving principles and features of 183MW gas turbine system. During field application of LCI system, many tests have been conducted and the results were described in this paper. The test results will be considered as the important resources for development in future.

Speed Up Test on conventional Line by using Korean High Speed Train(HSR-350x) (한국형 고속 전철을 활용한 기존선 속도향상 고찰)

  • KTX has started commercial service from Seoul to Busan and Mokpo since April 1, 2004. The service line is composed of new-high speed line and conventional line. Before KTX is runs, the maximum operational speed on conventional line was 140km/h. In order to reduce the traveling time, operation speed of KTX must be increased on the conventional line. So, we performed test running with prototype HSR-350x and verification of safety was made in $10\%$ speed-up. Korean High Speed Train HSR-350x) was developed by G7 - R&D project. In this study, in safety aspect, several technical reviews are introduced and the possibility for reduction of traveling time is investigated on the conventional line by using HSR-350x.
