Safety is the prime concern for a high-speed railway bridge, especially when it is subjected to a collision. In this paper, an analysis framework for the dynamic responses of train-bridge systems under collision load is established. A multi-body dynamics model is employed to represent the moving vehicle, the modal decomposition method is adopted to describe the bridge structure, and the time history of a collision load is used as the external load on the train-bridge system. A (180+216+180) m continuous steel trussed-arch bridge is considered as an illustrative case study. With the vessel collision acting on the pier, the displacements and accelerations at the pier-top and the mid-span of the bridge are calculated when a CRH2 high-speed train running through the bridge, and the influence of bridge vibration on the running safety indices of the train, including derailment factors, offload factors and lateral wheel/rail forces, are analyzed. The results demonstrate that under the vessel collision load, the dynamic responses of the bridge are greatly enlarged, threatening the running safety of high-speed train on the bridge, which is affected by both the collision intensity and the train speed.

There are three different well-known methods for predicting the manoeuvrability of ships: (1) free running model test, (2) direct manoeuvring simulation using CFD and (3) system-based manoeuvring simulation. In this paper, the manoeuvrability of the KVLCC2 was estimated using CFD with rigid body motion and body force propeller method. The free running manoeuvre at the different time steps were also simulated. The yaw checking ability and the turning ability of KVLCC2 were predicted using CFD and could have been confirmed that the IMO criteria was satisfied. When the results were compared with the model test and system-based method, the free running simulation showed better agreement to that of the model test. It could also be confirmed that the results vary depending on the time step. Overall, the CFD results using the body force propeller method estimated most accurately the test results.

To predict the dynamics behavior, running stability, etc. of a railway vehicle and to understand its physical characteristics, analytical methods are used for the testing and manufacturing of a scale model along with numerical simulations in developed countries (England, France, Japan, etc.). The test of the dynamics characteristics of full-scale models is problematic in that it is expensive and time-consuming because an entire large-scale test plant needs to be constructed, difficulties are involved in the test configuration, etc. To overcome these problems, an analytical study involving dynamics tests and computer simulations using a scaled bogie model that applies the laws of similarity was carried out. In this study, we performed stability analysis on a 1/5 small scaled bogie for parameters such as the running speed and carbody weight by using an analysis model. Furthermore, we verified the reliability by using a small-scaled derailment simulator and examined the dynamic characteristic of the 1/5 small scaled bogie.

The course-keeping stability of a high speed planing boat should be considered at the design stage for its safe operations. The shape of waterjet intake plane is one of important design parameters of a waterjet propelled planing boat. That has significant influences on the stern flow patterns and pressure distributions. In this study, the effects of the waterjet intake shapes of planing boats on the course-keeping stabilities are investigated. Two kinds of designed planing boats have the same dimensions, but there are differences in waterjet intake plane shapes. Captive and free-running model tests, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses are carried out in order to estimate their hydrodynamic performances including course-keeping stabilities. The results show that the flat and wide waterjet intake plane of the initially designed boat makes the course-keeping stability worse. The waterjet intake shape is redesigned to improve the course-keeping stability. The improved performances are confirmed by free-running model tests and full-scale trials.
In this study, a numerical analysis f3r the piston secondary dynamics and lubrication characteristics of small refrigeration reciprocating compressors is presented. In general, the length of cylinder in this class of compressors is shortened to diminish the frictional losses of the piston-cylinder system. So, the contacting length between piston and cylinder wall is in variable with the rotating crank angle around the BDC of the reciprocating piston. In the problem formulation of the piston dynamics, the change in bearing length of the piston and all corresponding forces and moments are considered in order to determine the piston trajectory, velocity and acceleration at each step. A Newton-Raphson procedure was employed in solving the secondary dynamic equations of the piston. The developed computer program can be used to calculate the entire piston trajectory and the hydrodynamic forces and moments as functions of crank angle under compressor running conditions. The results explored the effects of the radial clearance, lubricant viscosity, and pin location on the stability of the piston, the oil leakage, and friction losses.
This paper presents a simplified dynamics of railway vehicle for a tilting train simulator. The tilting train simulator has 6 electric-driven actuators and a visualization system with 1600mm-diameter dome screen. The each system shares the data by ethernet. In order to analyze the dynamics of railway vehicle and transfer the results of the analysis to the other system of the tilting train simulator in realtime base, We assumed the tilting train as a simplified rigid body model with primary and secondary suspensions. The simplified vehicle model has a 17-DOF. Through the running analysis on the tight curve with various radius, we verified the simplified vehicle model.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between different soccer cleat designs and knee joint moments. Twelve physically active males (mean(SD): age: 26.4(6.2)yrs; height: 176.4(4.1)cm; mass: 74.0 (7.4)kg) were recruited Kinematic and force plate data were collected for all subjects during normal running and a $45^{\circ}$ cutting maneuver, called a v-cut. Both motions were performed at $4.0{\pm}0.2\;m/s$ on infilled artificial turf with three pairs of soccer cleats of different sole plate designs, and one pair of neutral running shoes. Inverse dynamics were used to calculate three dimensional knee joint moments, with repeated measures ANOVA and post hoc paired Student's t-test used to determine significance between shoe conditions. Significant differences were found in the extension moments of the knee for running trials, and for external rotation and adduction moments in the v-cutting trials. Knee moments were greater in v-cut than running, and the traditional soccer cleats (Copa Mondial and World Cup) tended to result in greater knee moments than the Nova runner or TRX soccer cleat. Cleat design was found to influence 3-dimensional knee moments in a v-cut maneuver. In the translational traction test, there were significant differences between all conditions. In the rotational traction test, friction with soccer shoes were greater than friction with running shoes. However, no differences were found between soccer shoes. Higher moments may lead to increased loads and stresses on knee joint structures, and thus, greater injury rates.

It is known that displacements, velocities and accelerations of the tractor- trailer type vehicle system in shock & vibration analysis by the flexible-multi-body dynamics including the flexibility of structure are bigger and more repetitive than them by the rigid-multi-body dynamics, and it is necessary to prove above results by the experimental field test. Therefore, in this paper, theoretical analysis by the flexible-multi-body dynamics and experimental field test for a tractor-trailer type vehicle system are conducted and their results are compared with each other. Because of unexpected metal contact and impact in the air coupler part in the field test, some accelerations measured from the experimental field test are bigger than them analyzed from the theoretical analysis, but most accelerations are well coincide with each other in the amplitudes and trends. Thus more refined dynamic analytical models for some special type vehicle systems will be possible in the future.

Railway vehicles are capable of indicating several types of instability. This phenomenon, which is called hunting motion, is a self excited lateral oscillation that is caused by the running velocity of the vehicle and wheel frail interactive forces. The interactive forces act to change effectively the damping characteristics of railway vehicle systems. This paper will show the impact of instability on the transfer function behavior using damping characteristics of secondary suspension. The vehicle dynamics are modeled using a 17 degree of freedom considering linear wheel/rail contact. The paper deals with certain condition of the damper characteristics that one is about various damping coefficient and another is equipped damper direction.
Track irregularities is one of the key factors influencing the running behavior of trains. In order to ensure safety and ride comfort of train, the criteria for track irregularities should be adequately established regarding vehicle velocity, vehicle characteristics, characteristics of the track recording car, and measurement interval. Also, track maintenance should be carried out thoroughly according to the criteria for managing track irregularities. Numerical analysis was conducted to investigate the influence of track alignment on the running behavior of Korean high speed train(KTX). Various wavelengths and amplitudes of lateral alignment were considered as parameters for this study using the Vampire program, a vehicle dynamics modeling package in railway environment. Derailment, lateral load, bogie acceleration and body acceleration of numerical analysis results due to alignment were investigated. Finally, the influence of the alignment on safety and ride comfort for the KTX was evaluated. This study indicates that alignment irregularities have significant impacts on running safety, and that the criteria used to manage alignment irregularities should be restrictive to ensure the running safety of the KTX.
