  • Most of a driving cycle is used to measure fuel consumption (FC) and emissions for a specified vehicle. A driving cycle was reflected geography and traffic characteristics for each country, also, driving pattern is affected these parameters such as vehicle dynamics, FC and emissions. Therefore, this study is an attempt to develop a driving cycle for military operational area. The proposed methodology the driving cycle using micro-trips extracted from real-world data. The methodology is that the driving cycle is constructed considering important parameters to be affected FC. Therefore, this approach is expected to be a better representation of heterogeneous traffic behavior. The driving cycle for the military operational area is constructed using the proposed methodology and is compared with real-world driving data. The running time and total distance of the final cycle is 1461 s, 13.10 km. The average velocity is 32.25 km/h and average grade is 0.43%. The Fuel economy in the final cycle is 5.93 km/l, as opposed to 6.10 km/l for real-world driving. There were about 3% differences in driving pattern between the final driving cycle and real-world driving.

  • This study is devoted to understand the basic characteristics of the flowfield around a train in evacuated tube and to suggest an efficient numerical method to calculate the flowfield. To get steady-state solution in minimum calculation domain, various boundary condition have been tried for steady calculation and have been compared to the solution of unsteady calculation. At the train velocity of 300km/h, the aerodynamic drag results of both calculation method agreed very well. The drag ratio between on the open filed and in the tube from the calculation result by the suggested numerical method lied in the same fitting curve with that from the filed test of high-speed trains running in the line.

  • Mammals such as dogs and cheetahs change their gait from trot to gallop as they run faster. However, lizards always trot for various speeds of running. When mammals run slowly with trot gait, their fore leg and hind leg generate the required force for acceleration or deceleration such that the yaw moments created by these forces cancel each other. On the other hand, when lizards run slowly, their fore legs and hind legs generate the forces for deceleration and acceleration, respectively. In this paper, the yaw motion of a lizard model is controlled by the movement of their waist and tail, and the reaction moment from the ground produced by the hind legs in simulation. The simulation uses the whole body dynamics of a lizard model, which consists of 4 links based on the Callisaurus draconoides. The results show that the simulated trotting of the model is similar to that of a real lizard when the movement of the model is optimized to minimize the reaction moment from the ground. It means that the body of a lizard moves in such a way that the reaction moment from the ground is minimized. This demonstrates our hypothesis on how lizards trot using body motion.

  • Rail-mounted cranes can be easily damaged by a sudden gust of wind while working at a running speed, due to the large mass and high barycenter positions. In current designs, working rail-mounted cranes mainly depend on wheel braking torques to resist large wind load. Regular brakes, however, cannot satisfactorily stop the crane, which induces safety issues of cranes and hence leads to frequent crane accidents, especially in sudden gusts of wind. Therefore, it is necessary and important to study the braking performance of working rail mounted cranes under wind load. In this study, a simplified mechanical model was built to simulate the working rail mounted gantry crane, and dynamic analysis of the model was carried out to deduce braking performance equations that reflect the qualitative relations among braking time, braking distance, wind load, and braking torque. It was shown that, under constant braking torque, there existed inflection points on the curves of braking time and distance versus windforce. Both the braking time and the distance increased sharply when wind load exceeded the inflection point value, referred to as the threshold windforce. The braking performance of a 300 ton shipbuilding gantry crane was modeled and analyzed using multibody dynamics software ADAMS. The simulation results were fitted by quadratic curves to show the changes of braking time and distance versus windforce under various mount of braking torques. The threshold windforce could be obtained theoretically by taking derivative of fitted curves. Based on the fitted functional relationship between threshold windforce and braking torque, theoretical basis are provided to ensure a safe and rational design for crane wind-resistant braking systems.

  • Because of the climate changes and the development of building technologies, the cooling loads have been increased. Among the various renewable energies, geothermal energy is known as very useful and stable energy for heating and cooling of building. This study proposes a road snow-melting system of which heat is supplied from GSHP(Ground source heat pump) in viewpoint of the initial investment and annual running performance, which is also operating as a main facility of heating and cooling for common spaces. The results of this study is as followings. From the site measurement, it is found out that the road surface temperature above the geothermal heating pipe rose up to $5^{\circ}C$, which is the design temperature of road snow-melting, after 2 hours' operation and average COP(Coefficient of performance) was estimated as 3.5. The reliability of CFD has confirmed, because the temperature difference between results of CFD analysis and site measurement is only ${\pm}0.4^{\circ}C$ and the trend of temperature variation is quite similar. CFD analysis on the effect of pavement materials clearly show that more than 2 hours is needed for snow-melting, if the road is paved by ascon or concrete. But the road paved by brick is not reached to $5^{\circ}C$ at all. To evaluate the feasibility of snow-melting system operated by a geothermal circulation which has not GSHP, the surface temperature of concrete-paved road rise up to $0^{\circ}C$ after 2 hour and 40 minutes, and it does never increase to $5^{\circ}C$. And the roads paved by ascon and brick is maintained as below $0^{\circ}C$ after 12 hours geothermal circulation.

  • Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) is the emerging personal transport vehicle operating on the loop automatically. The PRT system utilize the electrical power from super capacity or battery, it is important to manage the power or energy. In this regards, the management of high temperature occurred by the operation of system is significantly important to prevent from serious damage of component. In this study, we studied the adequate shape of underbody which can reduce the heat accumulation by pickup coil and condenser using natural air cooling. We suggested the additional air pathway, air inlet and flow separator to decrease the temperature of the heat source components. It was found that suggested system can decrease the temperature of PRT under body by 16% during the static mode and by 10% during the running mode at 30km/h. It is expected that the findings of this study will feed into final design of newly built Korean PRT vehicle.

  • In a subway vehicle, a lateral damper is used for compensating the lateral stiffness deterioration due to the air-spring as a secondary suspension. This lateral damper can reduce the lateral vibration of the carbody. When the damping force of the lateral damper is lowered, the running stability and ride quality of the subway vehicles worsens and the lateral motion of the carbody is increased. In this study, the lateral displacement variation of the carbody according to the damping force of the lateral damper was analyzed by multi-body dynamics to solve the abnormal impact problem during vehicle operation. Furthermore, the noise and vibration due to abnormal impact were considered. An adequate damping coefficient of the lateral damper for the subway vehicle treated in this paper was suggested for preventing abnormal impact.

  • The purpose of this study was to apply the deep running method to real estate price index predicting and to compare it with the time series analysis method to test the possibility of its application to real estate market forecasting. Various real estate price indices were predicted using the DNN (deep neural networks) and LSTM (long short term memory networks) models, both of which draw on the deep learning method, and the ARIMA (autoregressive integrated moving average) model, which is based on the time seies analysis method. The results of the study showed the following. First, the predictive power of the deep learning method is superior to that of the time series analysis method. Second, among the deep learning models, the predictability of the DNN model is slightly superior to that of the LSTM model. Third, the deep learning method and the ARIMA model are the least reliable tools for predicting the housing sales prices index among the real estate price indices. Drawing on the deep learning method, it is hoped that this study will help enhance the accuracy in predicting the real estate market dynamics.

  • Contact between wheel and rail leads to the creep phenomenon. Linear creep theory, assuming linear increase in the creep force vs creep, results in a critical speed at which the vibration of a railway vehicle goes to infinity. However, the actual creep force converges to a limited value, so that the vibration of a railway vehicle cannot increase indefinitely. In this study, the dynamics of a railway vehicle is investigated with a 6 DOF bogie model includingthe nonlinear creep curves of Vermeulen, Polach, and a newly calculated creep curve with strip theory. Strip theory considers the profiles of the wheel and rail. The results show that the vibration of a railway vehicle results in a limit-cycle over a specific running speed, and this limit-cycle becomes smaller as the slope of the creep-curve steepens. Moreover, a hunting phenomenon is caused due to flange contact, which restricts the magnitude of the limit-cycle.
