Optimization of Micro Hydro Propeller Turbine blade using NSGA-II (NSGA-II를 이용한 마이크로 프로펠러 수차 블레이드 최적화)

  • In addition to the development of micro hydro turbine, the challenge in micro hydro turbine design as sustainable hydro devices is focused on the optimization of turbine runner blade which have decisive effect on the turbine performance to reach higher efficiency. A multi-objective optimization method to optimize the performance of runner blade of propeller turbine for micro turbine has been studied. For the initial design of planar blade cascade, singularity distribution method and the combination of the Bezier curve parametric technology is used. A non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II(NSGA II) is developed based on the multi-objective optimization design method. The comparision with model test show that the blade charachteristics is optimized by NSGA-II has a good efficiency and load distribution. From model test and scale up calculation, the maximum prototype efficiency of the runner blade reaches as high as 90.87%.

  • The design of gate and runner(delivery system) is one of the most important subject in injection molding. Delivery system is a channel to flow the polymer melt from the injection molding machine to the mold cavities. Also, delivery system affect quality and productivity of the part. The synthesis of delivery system of injection molding has been done empirically, since it requires profound knowledge about the moldability and causal effects on the properties of the part, which are not available to designers through the current CAD systems. GATEWAY is a knowledge module which contains knowledge to permit non-experts as well as mold design experts to generate the acceptable geometries of gate and runner far injection molded parts. A knowledge-based CAD system is constructed by adding the knowledge module, GATEWAY, to an existing geometric modeler. A knowledge-based CAD system is a new tool which enables the concurrent design and CIM with integrated and balanced design decisions at the initial design of injection molding.

  • The SS (Semi-solid) diecasters usually cany out the SS d~ecastmg experiments before producing new products. At the SS diecasting stages, the runner-gate part is always repeatedly corrected, which leads to a lengthened processing time and increased processing cost. The SS diecasting die design should consider component system factors. such as runner, gate, biscuit, overflow and airvent. A large amount of experience is essential in manual assessment and if the design is defective, much time and a great deal of efforts will be wasted in the modification of the d~e. Thus human negligence should be minimized. In this study, die design system for SS diecasting process has been developed to present algonthm of die design, especially runner-gate system. In addition, specific rules and equations for runner-gate system have been presented to avoid too many trials and errors with expensive equipment. It is possible for engineers to be efficient die design of SS diecasting and it will result in reduction of expense and time to be required. And we developed CAD system for SS diecasting die design by AutoLISP language under AutoCAD using proposed algorithm and the database. In addition, we developed the vector analysis program for filling pattern of SS metals.

A Study on the Effect of Port Area of Blade on the Performance of Francis Hydro Turbine (프란시스수차 러너 블레이드 출구면적이 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • As a key component of a Francis turbine facility, the runner performance plays a vital role in the performance of the turbine. It is effective and successful to design a Francis turbine runner blade with good performance by one dimensional hydraulic design method. On the basis of one dimensional hydraulic analysis, there are a lot of parameters of the internal flow passage shapes determined by experience. Among those parameters, the effect of port area of blade on the performance of a Francis turbine is investigated in this study. A given Francis turbine model was selected for investigating the port area of blade on the performance. The result shows that the effect of port area of runner blade on the outflow angle from runner passage on the performance is quite significant. A correct exit flow angle reduces the energy loss at draft tube, which has the best efficiency of the turbine model.

  • Use of casting simulation software, analyzing the reason for defect became easy. However, to create a practical solution, experienced casting expert's knowledge is always indispensable. In this study, we develop casting design automation system and the algorithm based on casting expert's knowledge, so that faster and more accurate design is enabled. Especially, to generate runner which can be shaped in numerous ways, we suggest the 'nexus' method to shape runner system.

  • Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner system for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to accomplish filling balance between cavity to cavity during processing. However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalance has been observed. Filling imbalance could be decreased by modifying processing conditions such as injections rate, mold temperature, injection pressure, melt temperature that are related to shear, viscosity. In this study, a series of experiment was conducted to investigate filling imbalance variation when modifying runner layout and polymer and to determine which processing condition influences as the primary cause of filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner system. The filling imbalance was decreased up to result range of $3{\leq}DFI{\leq}8(%)$ by using a new runner system for balanced filling.

  • Injection molding process is one of the processes that can mold plastic product as low cost. However, manufacturing process of automobile bumper mold has lots of trial and error. Especially, desiging of a huge mold such as bumper mold is needed to establish a design standard for runner system. In this study, CAE was conducted to observe the variation of melt-flow by changing runner and gate type in automobile bumper mold as preceding study for a standard design of runner system.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the formability and quality of the injection molded parts in the molds for molding the motorcycle rear cowl injection molded parts with different volumes at the same time, the flow of the molded parts is changed through the injection molding CAE analysis by changing the gate position, runner size and position. It is to find the optimum gate position, the diameter of the runner and the position where the balance is equal. The molded article formed by the optimization resulted in the uniformity of the molten resin at the same time at the corner of the product, thereby maintaining the flow balance favorable for mass production at lower injection pressure.
