  • A new image coding technique has been proposed based on the wavelet transform. To achieve lower ceding rates and good qualities in reconstructed images, some of wavelet coefficients were removed by thresholding and quantized in accordance with the sensitivity of the human visual system(HVS). For each block of subimages in wavelet transform domain, block thresholding scheme has been used to remove the unimportant wavelet coefficients according to the frequency characteristic and statistical property of wavelet coefficients. The location information of quantized blocks and removed blocks were encoded using run-length coder which is effective for the exponential distribution. Quantized coefficients were encoded using variable length coder which matches well to their distribution. Simulation results show that the reconstructed images maintain high quality with the low bit rate, below 1.0 bits per pel.

  • This paper presents a new test data compression and low power scan test method that can reduce test time and power consumption. A proposed method can reduce the scan-in power and test data volume using a modified scan cell reordering algorithm and hybrid adaptive encoding method. Hybrid test data compression method uses adaptively the Golomb codes and run-length codes according to length of runs in test data, which can reduce efficiently the test data volume compare to previous method. We apply a scan cell reordering technique to minimize the column hamming distance in scan vectors, which can reduce the scan-in power consumption and test data. Experimental results for ISCAS 89 benchmark circuits show that reduced test data and low power scan testing can be achieved in all cases. The proposed method showed an about a 17%-26% better compression ratio, 8%-22% better average power consumption and 13%-60% better peak power consumption than that of previous method.

  • The CCC-r chart is more effective than traditional attribute control charts for monitoring high-quality processes. In-control process parameters are typically unknown and should be estimated when implementing a CCC-r chart. Phase II control chart performance can deteriorate due to the effect of the estimation error. In this paper, we used the standard deviation of average run length (ARL) as well as the average of ARL to quantify the between-practitioner variability in the CCC-r chart performance. The results indicate that the CCC-r chart requires larger Phase I data than previously recommended in the literature in order to have consistent chart in-control performance among practitioners.

  • Orifice meters and turbine meters are frequently used for measuring gas flow in gas industry. However, to insure the accuracy of the measurement, a certain length of the meter run at the upstream of the flow meter is required. The objective of this study is to analyze flow measurement errors of the orifice meter quantitatively for shorter lengths of the meter runs than those suggested in the standard manuals with variation of diameter ratio( $\beta$ ratio) and flow rate and also to analyze flow measurement errors of the turbine meter with and without straightener. The test results showed that the flow measurement errors of the orifice meter were inversely proportional to the diameter ratio. In other words, when the diameter ratio is 0.3 and 0.7, the measurement error is $-7.3\%$ and $-3.5\%$, respectively. the main reason of the measurement error is due to the swirl effect from the configuration of the meter run at the upstream of the flow meter. In case the length of the meter run is shorter than that suggested In the standard, the swirl effect is not removed completely and it affects the flow meter's performance. As mentioned above, the less the pipe diameter ratio, the mon the flow measurement error. It means that the swirl effect on the orifice meter increases as the $\beta$ ratio decreases.

  • Many stochastic processes satisfy the Markov property exactly or at least approximately. An interested property in the Markov process is the first passage time. Since the sequential analysis by Wald, the approximation of the first passage time has been studied extensively. The Statistical computing technique due to the development of high-speed computers made it possible to calculate the values of the properties close to the true ones. This article introduces an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart as an example of the Markov process, and studied how to calculate the average run length with problematic issues that should be cautioned for correct calculation. The results derived for approximation of the first passage time in this research can be applied to any of the Markov processes. Especially the approximation of the continuous time Markov process to the discrete time Markov chain is useful for the studies of the properties of the stochastic process and makes computational approaches easy.

  • Digital watermarking is to embed imperceptible mark into image, video, audio, and text data to prevent the illegal copy of multimedia data. arbitrary modification, and also illegal sales of the copies without agreement of copyright ownership. In this paper, we study for the embedding and extraction of watermark key using wavelet in the luminance signal in order to implement the system to protect the copyright for image MPEG. First, the original image is analyzed into frequency domain by discrete wavelet transform. The RSA(Rivest, Shamir, Aldeman) public key of the coded target is RUN parameter of VLD(variable length coding). Because the high relationship among the adjacent RUN parameters effect the whole image, it prevents non-authorizer not to possess private key from behaving illegally. The Results show that the proposed method provides better moving picture and the distortion more key of insert than direct coded method on low-frequency domain based DCT.

  • New control charts under repetitive sampling are proposed, which can be used for variables and attributes quality characteristics. The proposed control charts have inner and outer control limits so that repetitive sampling may be needed if the plotted statistic falls between the two limits. Particularly, the new np and variable X-bar control charts under repetitive sampling are considered in detail. The in-control and out-of-control average run lengths are analyzed according to various process shifts. The performance of the proposed control charts is compared with the existing np and the X-bar control charts in terms of the average run lengths.

  • Two-level fractional factorial designs are widely used when many factors are considered. When two-level fractional factorial designs are used, some effects are confounded with each other. To break the confounding between effects, we can use fractional factorial designs, called fold-over designs, in which certain signs in the design generators are switched. In this paper, optimal fold-over designs with four-level quantitative and two-level factors are presented for (1) the initial designs without curvature effect and (2) those with curvature effect. Optimal fold-over design tables are provided for 8-run, 16-run, and 32-run experiments.

  • As the train run through the tunnels, especially at high speed, pressure shock developed by the running train gives the influence on the pressure fluctuation inside the tunnel and consequently, inside the car. This pressure changes and pressure gradient is closely related with the tunnel section, train speed, air tightness of the train, length of the tunnel, etc. This study includes the analysis of the pressure behavior at the varied train speed and tunnel length. The results show that train speed affects the pressure gradient inside the car almost linearly, and that there exist the critical tunnel lengths that gives the maximum value of pressure change and pressure gradient, respectively.
