  • During the past 50 years methods for predicting wave overtopping of coastal structures have coastal structures have continuously been developed Wave overtopping is one of the most important processes for the design of seawalls. The term 'wave overtopping' is used here to refer to the processes where waves hit a sloping structure run up the slope and, if the crest level of the slope is lower than the highest run up level, overtop the structure. Wave overtopping is dependent on the processes associated with breaking wave. The Numerical model is based on Navier-Stokes equation and Marker-Density Function of method for nonlinear free-surface flow by Miyata & Park(1995). The influence of how the slopes of seawalls, wave type and crest freeboard affect overtopping discharges has been investigated. The research of study using the new development nonlinear free-surface flow numerical model SOLA-VOF are presented.

  • To investigate the run-up heights of nearshore tsunamis in the vicinity of a circular island, a numerical model has been developed based on quadtree grids. The governing equations of the model are the nonlinear shallow-water equations. The governing equations are discretized explicitly by using a finite difference leap-frog scheme on adaptive hierarchical quadtree grids. The quadtree grids are generated around a circular island where refined with rectangular or circular domain. Obtained numerical results have been verified by comparing to available laboratory measurements. A good agreement has been achieved.

  • The present study aims to document the run-up height, losses of human lives and property damage due to the tsunami occurred on December 26, 2004 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. These Islands were severely devastated by the tsunami. Approximately 1,925 people were lost their lives and 5,555 people were reported missing. A field survey conducted at 26 sites indicates that the run-up height reached its maxima of 17.3 m at the passenger jetty of Little Andaman area and the Chdiyatopu area was inundated 500 m from the coastline.

  • The propagation and associated run-up process of nearshore tsunamis in the vicinity of shorelines have been analyzed by using a two-dimensional numerical model. The governing equations of the model are the nonlinear shallow-water equations. They are discretized explicitly by using a finite volume method and the numerical fluxes are reconstructed with a HLLC approximate Riemann solver and weighted averaged flux method. The model is applied to two problems; The first problem deals with water surface oscillations, while the second one simulates the propagation and subsequent run-up process of nearshore tsunamis. Predicted results have been compared to available analytical solutions and laboratory measurements. A very good agreement has been observed.

  • A fundamental study on methane conversion for the collection organic wastes of agriculture, forestry and fishers was performed in a laboratory scale. As a result, selected Run B sample were obtained 18.41 C/N Ratio and 168.96 mg/L TCOD; Under the biochemical methane potential test, theoretical and actual methane generation was 313.6 mg/L VS added and 234.2 mg/L VS added, respectively; However, methane conversion from Run B were occurred 74% by anaerobic digestion. By the first order reaction kinetics, kinetic constant were $0.2476d^{-1}$ for Run B. Three steps fill-up filter reactor was evaluated methane content 16% up to promote than blank reactor; TCOD and SCOD have reduced 44.7% and 44.2%, respectively.

  • A numerical model has been developed for the permeable coastal structures to simulate hydraulic characteristics on the permeable slopes, which interact with internal four field the structures. The model includes hydraulics in the porous medium. Numerical model was calibrated using hydraulic model experiments performed in 2-D wave flume in the Institute of Ocean Hydraulics in PKNU. Better aggrements were obtained with the model which employed inertia resistance term than with the conventional model, PBREAK.

  • The technique of foldover is usually used by experimenters to de-alias the effects that are interesting in follow-up experiment. Employing a $2^{k-p}$ design with resolution III or higher, Li and Lin (2003) developed an algorithm and used computer programs to search its corresponding optimal foldover design for selected 16-run and 32-run experiments. Based on the minimum aberration criterion, the strong combined-optimal design, defined by Li and Lin, is the better choice of the initial design. In this article, we apply the technique of blocking to find the strong combined-optimal designs. Furthermore, we will tabulate all 16-run and 32-run strong combined-optimal designs and their corresponding core foldover plans for practical use. Some new designs that have not appeared in the other literature but constructed by the technique of blocking are also proposed in this article.

  • Unlike the existing supply-centered water policy, demand management policy of water has become an increasingly important issue in Korea. This paper attempts to analyse the demand for domestic water in Seoul. We employed Engle-Granger's error correction model(ECM) to deduced the price and income elasticities of the water demand. Particularly, we used accounted water amounts instead of supplied water amounts as representative variable of water demand. The result indicates that ECM set up is appropriate and short-run and long-run price elasticities derived by the model are -0.145 and -1.414. In contrast with other studies, we can conclude that the water demand for the water price is elastic. Besides, we can infer from this result that the water price policy with respect to a decrease of leakage ratio is more effective.
