  • TIG welding process is applied for the active metal such as aluminum and titanium, also sometimes for overlay welding of superalloy. However the welding speed to be applied is very low because of the unstable bead formed in the region of high current and high welding speed. The present study was carried out to examine the basic phenomena of high speed TIG melt run welding by the 2% Th - W electrode(dia.3.2mm) of various tip shapes.

  • This paper presents the automatic alignment measuring system for improving the accuracy and working time of alignment of large vertical hydraulic pump turbine. It is general practice that rotating shaft should run within acceptable vibration limit. In order to obtain better run-out data of multi-stage rotor, careful and accurate alignment approach must be established. Generally, present alignment procedure are required several iterative works and so many manpower. Therefore, the new system has been developed using a vector calculation algorithm, laser sensor and data acquisition devices. As a result of appling to actual machines, it is confirmed that manpower is saved up to an average 90%.

  • A prototype high-speed train system, Hanvit-350, has been developed in Korea since 1996. The train has reached the maximum speed of 352.4km/h during a test run on December 2004. It is presently undergoing various tests to stabilize its performance and to secure reliability. Until now, around 420 runs have been conducted and accumulates 190,000km trial run. The test database management program is developed using existing analysis program, LabVIEW and database program, Microsoft-SQL. The test database management program is used to analysis of test results and will be used to find out the correlation characteristics between parameters.

  • Modern life is surrounded by all kinds of information and screen, motion graphics in these media everywhere, you can use it to a special performance of the method, the use of the stage, so that the effect is more vivid stage performance. Stage design industry began to diversify the use of Motion graphic, have long been out of the framework of the traditional background, turn into dynamic video space. In this paper analysis of research papers by the dynamic changes in the graphics arena background, style, affect the application of dynamic images. Summed up in the stage of development that can adapt to the requirements of the times, better performance stage effects and express emotion of the stage performances.

  • After studying several methods of the application a device of a treated sewage in anticipation of the future shortage of the duty of water, we could have some conclusion as the following : Advanced treatment systems arc essential prerequisites in reusing a treated sewage. And in a short term, the application of reusing a treated sewage should go first to new building areas near the sewage but for the long run, it should cover the whole area of Taegu, it is desirable that the pipe line networks which include dual water systems as well as water supply should be spread throughout the whole city. The city authorities have to make every effort to step up publicity activities on this plan to all the citizens and building owners to steadily carry out this project and encourage private constructors to participate with the help of SOC. And for the long run, it is desirable that the application of reusing a treated sewage should be obligatory.

  • This paper investigates the effects of non-normality on the performance of univariate and multivariate cumulative sum(CUSUM) control charts for monitoring the process mean. In-control and out-of-control average run lengths of the charts are examined for the univariate/multivariate lognormal and t distributions. The effects of the reference value and the correlation coefficient under the non-normal distributions are also studied. Simulation results show that the CUSUM charts with small reference values are robust to non-normality but those with moderate or large reference values are sensitive to non-normal data especially to process data from skewed distributions. The performance of the chart to detect mean shift of a process is not invariant to the direction of the shift for skewed distributions.

  • To study run-off characteristics in the small watersheds in Korea, investigations had been carried out for a period of 4 years from 1972 to 1975 in the sample watersheds. The samples were selected in four major river basins such as the Han River, the Keum River, the Nakdong River and the Yongsan River. Water levels and rainfall data had been. collected from each sample area where the measuring instruments were installed. The findings of this investigation can be summarized as follows; 1. With an average runoff rate of 60% in the sample watersheds, the average runoff rate. in each sample proved to be as below; the Han River Basin : 41.4% the Keum River Basin : 61.7% the Nakdong River Basin : 69.4% the Yong San River Basin : 69.2% 2. The base flow rate in the sample watersheds proved to be 8.1 mm/month. 3. A comparison of the runoff obtained from actual measurements made and that calculated by the Kaijyama formula showed that the latter is 9.1% lower than the former.

  • With the development of computer storage and the rapidly growing ability to process large amounts of data, the multivariate control charts have received an increasing attention. The existing univariate and multivariate control charts are a single hypothesis testing approach to process mean or variance by using a single statistic plot. This paper proposes a multiple hypothesis approach to developing a new multivariate control scheme. Plotted Hotelling's $T^2$ statistics are used for computing the corresponding p-values and the procedure for controlling the false discovery rate in multiple hypothesis testing is applied to the proposed control scheme. Some numerical simulations were carried out to compare the performance of the proposed control scheme with the ordinary multivariate Shewhart chart in terms of the average run length. The results show that the proposed control scheme outperforms the existing multivariate Shewhart chart for all mean shifts.

  • In this study, a new method has been presented for the detection of broken rotor bar (BRB) faults in inverter driven induction motors controlled via Field Oriented Control (FOC). To this end, a FOC controlled induction motor with a BRB fault was modeled using the Matlab/Simulink program. Experiments were carried out using the prepared simulation model at various loads and operating speeds. The motor current and speeds were monitored for healthy, 1, 2 and 3 BRB faults. The Resampling Based Order Tracking Analysis (RB-OTA) method was applied to the monitored signals. The obtained results were compared by using the classic Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method. When the obtained results were analyzed via the FFT method no information regarding any faults was determined in the run up or run down regions of the motor and the presented method gave very good results. The reliability of the proposed method was validated with experimental results. The main innovative part of this study is that the RB-OTA method was implemented on the induction motor current signal for detecting BRB faults.
